I have set up my netbook to hibernate on pressing the power button.
It is my wireless music server & ideally I want it to just boot straight to desktop after turning on (so the SqueezeServer software is running). However it still boots to the login screen (even though I've removed the password).
How can I avoid this & boot straight to the hibernated desktop? This netbook has just been repaired & I'm sure I managed to the previous working incarnation to by pass this login page, but can't remember how !
I just bought a new ultrabook and I love its SSD and instant-resume. What I don't love, is that it instantly resumes to the login screen. I have only a single user account, with no password associated with it, and yet I'm still unable to find a way for my computer to skip the login screen when I lift the lid of my notebook after the machine has suspended. Other posts say how to do it to skip the login on first booting the system (netplwiz), or how avoid entering sleep / hibernate modes, but neither of those options are quite what I'm looking for
I have a real problem booting with my Restore CD. It doesn't let me go further then the bios. It tells me I can select ESC and it will give me the boot selection pop up, and when I do that it only says that boot selection has been selected but doesn't work. It also gives me an option to select F2 for setup but takes me straight to the bios. I set CD/DVD as first boot priority but it didn't work.
At this moment my PC is wired straight into my modem for internet access. I am however considering plugging it into the router as well in order to access my NAS, enable network printing and what not.The problem that might be is that the router is also providing internet connectivity and thus I will face the problem of having 2 internet connections open.Is there some way for me to tell windows 7 to use the "straight" connection over the router one?. Meaning it will use the straight one to connect to the internet and this not pass that traffic through the router etc.?
I changed explorer.dll in Windows 7. Then explorer wouldn't start when I tried to do so from task manager. So I tried to reboot. After also being unable to make headway in safe mode (using msconfig), as that also requires explorer, I launched startup repair using my windows 7 CD. Then after it said that it would reboot and fix any additional problems, it has kept rebooting and failing. I can't get to safe mode using f8 either, it just comes up with boot options 'Boot from CD' and 'Boot from HDD'.f I can get out of startup repair, that would be tremendous. At least then I can activate word from task manager and save my coursework!'m going to try using Ubuntu's explorer to change the files back. I'll post back any progress! I'll be checking this wall at least 5 times a day until a solution is found.
Is there any software out there that allows you to download video's and/or music straight from the internet to a DVD or CD without said file saving on your PC/ laptop ?
This weekend - I installed Windows 7 Pro RTM Final onto a basic "office" workstation and was stunned to see that ALL of my drivers were installed straight away as part of the OS install.
In the past - XP and Vista always pulled me down a path of having to install at least a half dozen specific driver for all hardware pieces - but with 7 - I was good to go.
So what's the thinking? Do I really need the latest Intel chipset software? Is the 185.xx nVidia driver installed by 7 any worse than running the latest bloated pointless installer from the nVidia site? How about DirectX - in the past - I would pull down the latest End User Runtime and install that before my video drivers. Can't even find a Direct X installer for 7 right now...
since my computer just blue screened again I'm posting this on my phone. As the title says I'm getting hardware errors after litterally finishing the build and installing windows.
I've just installed windows 7 and I'm expiriencing the following problem. I'm using a dual monitor setup with a philips 170B running at 1280x1024 and a LG W2253 wide running at 1920x1080. The problem is whatever I try to do, the screens wont be placed in a straight line, fitting exactly on the same size. Some small portion of the LG will be outsite of the other screens limits, making windows uneven, etc. Back in Windows xp I never had this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
When I'm at work outlook 2010 will send e-mails without any problems. When I go home after work and try to send an e-mail, they go straight to the outbox folder. They won't send until I'm back at work the following day.
Okay, so the issue I have is that windows 7 wont boot from the disk. It does on my laptop but does not on my desktop. I was forced to re-install windows 2000 because its the only windows I had at home and a downloaded iso was missind the dvd driver and couldnt continue with the install... I waited to borrow another burnt disk from my uncle which works on every computer I try it on accept for the desktop which is the one not working! Ive done the correct boot from disk paths and it just sits at the loading screen but never asks to press any key
I have win7 on C drive and WinXPsp3 on D drive. Drives are separate. You can see full specs below.
I boot into XP on D fine. I can also boot into Win7 on C fine, but here is the catch. The computer wants to go into a chkdsk if I boot into win7. If I let the computer do this it goes through a very long process and when it comes out of that process it reboots and goes through its normal procedure.
But then when it gets to the very last step, the step where it shows the wallpaper, icons and taskbar, all I get is blank screen.
If I boot into safe mode I can see everything. If I boot into safemode with networking I can see everything. As a matter of fact that is how I am typing this message now.
What do I need to do to get my computer to boot correctly?
Here are my specs: Desktop: Drive C: W7 Home Premium 80GB NTFS (IDE) Drive D: WinXP Pro sp2 80GB NTFS (IDE)
Okay so lately I've noticed that my PC isn't displaying the BIOS splash screen anymore and skips straight to the Windows login screen. It didn't really bother me until today when I wanted to boot into Ubuntu and I couldn't select which OS I wanted to use.I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the BIOS itself since I unplugged all the peripherals except the speakers, removed all the RAM and the BIOS did beep repeatedly. And given enough time, I can boot into windows (and only windows ).Apparently people have had this problem before and all the solutions I've read such as "Press 'del' to go into your BIOS!" really doesn't help since I can't see anything in my BIOS menu. The only solution that made sense to me was that my CMOS battery could be dying. I haven't changed my rig since I built it in 2009. The only significant event that happened recently might be that Windows updated itself.
-PC doesn't display BIOS splash screen -Can't see messages displayed by system -When windows does bootup, everything runs just fine -Haven't changed rig for ~3 years
All games I've played recently (both single and multiplayer, whether through Steam, Origin, or standalone, internal or external drive) occasionally freeze up and then recover. It usually lasts only a couple of seconds. Example games:Dragon Age II (singleplayer, through Origin, external drive) League of Legends (multiplayer, internal drive) Raiderz (multiplayer, internal drive) Jade Empire (singleplayer, through Steam, external drive) Skyrim (singleplayer, through Steam, external drive) Dark Souls (multiplayer, through Steam, external drive) I haven't checked every single game on my system, I can try others if that will help diagnose the problem.
My systemMac Pro 2009, dual booting Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit OS with Boot Camp. Problem is with Windows 7 boot. 2 Quad Core Intel Xeon CPU - W3540 @ 2.93.GHz 3.06GHz 8 GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 5870 Some games are on an external drive. There does not seem to be a difference in how often games on internal vs external hang. Things I have already triedEverything on the troubleshooting thread except relating to DirectX 11 (these games aren't using it on my current settings) Everything on this "games hang briefly but periodically" thread Alt-Tab to Resource Monitor after a hang. No strong correlations found. Some spikes in Queue Length, some in CPU, nothing I can identify as obviously related. Reinstalling Windows & games with a fresh Boot Camp partition (When all else fails... no good though.) Upgrading my graphics card (I wanted to do this anyway, hoped it would help... games are a lot prettier, but no dice on the hanging problem) Order of events:No problem for ~3 years of use Installed Dragon Age II, needed to update graphics driver for it to run. At the time I had NVIDIA GeForce GT 120. I did a fresh driver install, initially I thought this might be the reason because it could have cleared out something from Boot Camp's special drivers. DA2 running, is first game to show hanging problem. Mainly happens at start of battle. Noticed next in League of Legends.First attempt at troubleshooting. Updated all drivers, Windows 7 updates, etc. Re-installed Windows in a clean Boot Camp partition, since (as noted) I thought I might have messed up some of BC's drivers. No improvement. Got tired of my overall crappy graphics and got a new graphics card, hoping it would also fix the hang problem. New card: ATI Radeon HD 5870. Games are super pretty! Still hang. Followed all of troubleshooting and hanging thread advice, minus DirectX 11 settings (since not using 11--even DA2 is set to 10). Still no improvement. I know my way around a computer but I'm no expert, and this is over my head. My only remaining theory is that it's something about running on Boot Camp--but it was fine for 3 years.
When booting system sometimes I hit F9 to select boot device, when I want to boot from dvd or usb. Before you say I can list boot devices in bios I know this, the problem Is UEFI and Legacy my UEFI system is not secure boot and for whatever reason I have to F9 and manually select usb or dvd legacy, some versions of linux will not boot otherwise.
UEFI boot sources:
Windows boot manager Linux Mint Linux mint
[Code]....
Over the course of the last year I have dual booted several version of linux, but it seems that linux mint and ubuntu add entries to my UEFI boot sources list...how do I remove them, the list is getting to long, and currently only windows 7 is installed.
Hp Pavillion Slimline s5-1114 Bios version 7.16 Ps other than this annoying list the system boots fine right into windows.
if there is a way to boot directly to the desktop in Windows 7 without clicking on my username on the login screen. I only have one user account and it's not password protected. The first 10 or so times I booted Windows it went directly to the desktop, but all of a sudden it started booting to the login screen and I can't find the settings to make it stop.
Recently my computer started to show signs that the power supply wasn't working properly. Every time it was unplugged and plugged back to the outlet, a light in the back will blink and make a clicking noise. Two days ago it did it again, when I unplugged it and plugged back in. I unplugged everything from the computer and try turn it on, but it didn't work. I checked all the cables inside and everything seemed to be connected properly. I unplugged the main cable from the motherboard and plugged the power supply and light at the back stopped blinking and remain lit. I decided to plug the motherboard cable. After doing that, the computer started but now it won't boot. All fans are running and there are no clicking or beeping sounds.
I have been noticing a gradual increase in boot time to the desktop - not actually sure when it was relatively normal. However yesterday it took so long to get there ( 5 minutes plus), I though it was not going to boot up. Did eventually get there after a few reboots.
This morning it's still slow but at least I'm getting there. System seems fine once it's up and running. This is what I'm getting;
Black post screen - seems to take a while to initialise USB controllers - around 30 seconds or so. Goes onto Windows splash screen - sits there for around 20 seconds.
Screen then goes black - monitor says "no signal detected" - sits there for around 30 seconds Welcome screen appears with whirring thing in the middle - around 20 seconds
Desktop appears but can take around a minute to fully load. Going into event manager and viewing the ID 100 log shows;
I am running a desktop with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. When I first power it on the normal BIOS posts and then Starting Windows just hangs, no 4 colored orbs that turn into the Windows logo. I can hit the reset button and it boots and runs fine. I have tried the Launch Startup Repair after the reset button but doesn't seam to do anything
i am unable to boot up my desktop.when i start up repair, it is showing unspecified change to system configaration might have caused this problem. am unable to reinstall my os. what to do?
I dunno whats going on, the icons on desktop refresh everytime the desktop loads (it does not repeat during session), these can be fast or slow and i have to remove them cos it will takes ages - they are already loaded...but then load again?
I used windows update and updated my nividia 9600 drivers and now for the past couple days I have been unable to reach my desktop. It boots to startup repair and does a short scan then finally says it was unable to help will either shut down, restart or scan again. I've DL'd a vista repair to restore but it doesn't have any restore points and I was able to get onto a DE language linux version of my computer but haven't been able to fix it there, partly cus i cant read most of what im seeing.
I dunno whats going on, the icons on desktop refresh every time the desktop loads (it does not repeat during session), these can be fast or slow and i have to remove them cos it will takes ages - they are already loaded when desktop comes on...but they all turn into white sheets then load again?I dont know what is causing this there is no AV installed, ive uninstalled perfect disk and disabled wireless adapter so only windows is loading.. it seems to happen as soon as the power & volume icon load in the tray, ive updated the audio driver and increased icon cache size to 2000 then 8000 but still it does this? the only thing i done before it started happening was I stopped a defrag session before it finished.
Sometimes when I boot into windows , I get the desktop but no icons , and the cursor point is a spinning circle . Or I will get icons but it seems to get stuck loadingHow can I troubleshoot this . Is their a program to see what is causing the issue when booting
I have two minor issues with 7. First, I placed several shortcut incons from the Admin folder on my desktop for convenience --ie. Device Mgr, Disk Mgmt, Event Viewer, My Computer, etc. Every time I boot up, only these admin icons disappear. None others are affected.
Secondly, whenever I dbl-click a .VOB file from a DVD folder, the Windows Media Player pops up the size of a 4" square. However, before in Vista it always appeared the size I left it when I logged off last; Vista remembered its size.. Even after re-sizing it, upon launch it starts out small in 7. Why doesn't 7 remember the size? What to do?
I have an older Toshiba Tecra A5 notebook which does not have a built-in DVD drive, nor do I have an external DVD drive. BIOS does not support USB boot, but does have a PXE boot option. My desktop is an older Dell model with a working DVD, but no wireless capabilities. Both computers are running activated Win 7 Ultimate X86 and are connected through a wireless access point..Linksys WRT54Gv8: running firmware is micro dd-wrt. Both IP's are dynamic, but almost never change. Objective is to use Ultimate boot CD to completely wipe and re-partion the Tecra via the desktop, where Ultimate boot is located. Unable to employ ADHOC, desktop is not wireless, cannot afford to buy anything new, and I also enjoy a good challenge.I am looking for the most basic method, without using homegroup nonsense etc.
