View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay so lately I've noticed that my PC isn't displaying the BIOS splash screen anymore and skips straight to the Windows login screen. It didn't really bother me until today when I wanted to boot into Ubuntu and I couldn't select which OS I wanted to use.I'm pretty sure the problem isn't the BIOS itself since I unplugged all the peripherals except the speakers, removed all the RAM and the BIOS did beep repeatedly. And given enough time, I can boot into windows (and only windows ).Apparently people have had this problem before and all the solutions I've read such as "Press 'del' to go into your BIOS!" really doesn't help since I can't see anything in my BIOS menu. The only solution that made sense to me was that my CMOS battery could be dying. I haven't changed my rig since I built it in 2009. The only significant event that happened recently might be that Windows updated itself.
-PC doesn't display BIOS splash screen
-Can't see messages displayed by system
-When windows does bootup, everything runs just fine
-Haven't changed rig for ~3 years
i have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.

The screen is all garbled, almost like it has been mirrored 6 times across the screen. I am in the process of saving stuff over(takes forever trying to read it) and am going to try a complete system reinstall.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know from searches on here that this laptop is pretty much obsolete when it comes to finding drivers for some aspects of Win 7, but I've also found some who seem to have got it running well on it, so hoping this isn't maybe a driver problem but something else that maybe can be easily fixed.
Basically Windows 7 installed without any problems but is running in a box centred in the middle of the screen - I tried to improve it by changing up the screen res, but while that did bump it up a bit it's still well shy of the screen edges i.e. 1 inch of black all around it. Is this thus another driver issue do you reckon or does anyone know of any other way to increase the res, as I can't find anyone else with this particular problem in searches here or elsewhere (unless I'm not searching with the right terms).
Already have it installed on my desktop so the laptop was really just for backup of sorts and not the end of the world if it won't work properly, but be nice to know for sure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Girl recently got a Dell Inspiron N5040, when we first turned it on, after a few mins it randomly restarted, i thought maybe its just an update (had to install loads of windows updates) however, over the past week, its being doing it every time its been turned off for a few hours... however once it restarts and comes back on, it usually is fine, It's only when leaving it a long while then turning it back on, it does the same again, and today for the first time we got a blue screen of death, which i believe may lead to some answers, here is the report:

I've tried F8, F2, and F12 to get to safe mode or startup options but all I ever get is the option to either start normally or launch repair. The function keys appear to do nothing. Launch normally doesn't work and just cycles me back to the two options again. Repairing just keeps "repairing" with nothing ever happening indefinitely. It will ask in the beginning if I want to restore to a different time, and if I click yes, nothing happens except that it keeps "repairing". There's nothing important on the hard drive that needs to be saved. I want to reformat, but I didn't get any disks with the computer, since it said I could use Dell Restore on my desktop, which of course I can't access now. Is there any free, safe program I can use to boot it up and restore? And can I even use a disk to restore if I can't access the advanced boot options to change it to "boot from disk"?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell system studio slim desktop, I used the "reinstallation DVD, windows 7 home premium 64-bit" disk to reinstall. After the reinstallation, when it automatically reboots, the screen starts up where I can press F2 or F12 for boot options but after that and windows logo, it stays on a black screen.
For a little background history, the desktop had a power supply die and I bought and added a new PSU. After that it worked until viruses on my computer forced me to reinstall windows.
I have tried F8 for the advanced boot option, but the screen I get does not offer advanced boot as an option. I get a screen with six line that all have vista in them and am unable to do anything in that screen. It will not boot when b or enter keys are hit it won't do anything when I try select enter the command line and I am unable to exit this screen using esc button, I have to manually turn off computer. How do I find the advanced boot screen for dell inspiron E1505 with windows 7 professional?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI couldn't find another thread relating to the exact same problem, as they have hijackthis logs etc. whereas I cannot get onto my laptop to do anything at all.I am running a Dell Studio 1555 with Windows 7. When I turn it on I can hear it boot, but everytime the screen just stays black. I cannot start it in safemode or do anything. It is just blackI can think is that the other day I used CC Cleaner and it did some things to the registry. Otherwise I have not downloaded anything or done anything that should suddenly make it stop working.
