Moving Existing Windows 7 Pro 64Bit OS Install To RAID 5?
Jan 3, 2011
I have the following MOBO:
ASUS P7P55D-E EVO
2X80gb Western Digital SATA Drives
2x2TB Samsung Spintpoint SATA Drives
I have already been using the machine with another 80Gb Western Digital SATA Drive with Windows 7 Pro 64Bit installed and now want to convert to RAID 5 for redunancy in case of Drive failure (We all say we will back up but we are all lazy when it comes to it LOL).I have taken out the original OS drive and plugged it into the E-SATA connector on the MOBO, gone into the BIOS, turned on RAID for the SATA Ports on the MOBO, and connected the 2 X 80Gb Boot drives. Entered the Hardware RAID Controller POST, and created the RAID 5 Volume from the 2 X 80Gb Discs. Now boot with Acronis Wester Digital edition.Clone the Original 80Gb Disc to the new Raid Array.Shut machine off, remove original OS 80gb Disc from E-SATA port.Boot machine. It starts to boot, and gets as far as the Windwos 7 Microsoft 4 Colour logo and then I get an error and then have to boot into Windows 7 from DVD and go through the repair process. When the Repair has run it reports the following:
The following startup option will be repaired:
Name: Windows Boot Manager
Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}
The following startup options will be added:
Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recoverye52d0bc2-1f15-11df-af10-d764fe3715b8Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=D76190 MB)
A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as:C:BootBCD.Backup.0001 However it fails to do the update How do I get this RAID to boot successfully? I *don't* want to have to re-install the Operating System as that is just too painful a thought?
As part of the chipset driver installation, it also installed the RAID and SATA drivers that Nvidia provides.I have a 300GB HDD on the primary IDE channel although I currently boot from one of my SATA hdd's.How would I go about transferring my OS to a RAID 0?Would it be possible to just system image my current OS onto the IDE drive and then format my two SATA hdd's, enable RAID in BIOS and then use Seagate Disc Wizard to install the system image onto the RAID 0?Is seagate disc wizard capable of transferring to a RAID drive??Have the RAID drivers definitely been installed with the Chipset drivers and will Windows recognise the RAID array?Have heard that you have to set up a boot partition the same size as the image on the RAID 0, would it then be possible to expand that to use the entire RAID partition
i want to change my existing install too raid0 i currently have install/programs on one 1tb drive and media/games on another 1tb drive, i have a spare 2tb drive unusedwhat are your suggestions so i reduce the amount of lost programs etc
I have been trying to get windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed onto a raid I created with two ocz agility 3 ssds. Everytime I try loading the drivers at install it gives me an error stating the drivers are unsigned and to install a 32 bit OS. When installing a 32 but OS, the install works normal and the computer runs fine. I am just wondering why it wont install for 64 bit considering I would much rather run 64 bit. I went to both the MoBo's website and the main companys website for the chipset drivers (AMD) but have both turned up with the same error.
Ive been trying for 3 days now to install a clean os on a raid 0 setup. I can get the array setup in the bios np, but when it comes time to actually install the os i can't. Reason being i cannot for the life of me find a raid driver that is signed by windows>< The south chip is sb700.
For stability / application continuity reasons, when I built my computer 1.5 years ago I went with XP Home on an SSD. It's great. Boot times in a blink, even 18 months later. I knew I would eventually want to learn and migrate to Windows 7. That has pretty much happened now. My WEI is pretty low, just because of the hard drive I installed it on--I have Windows 7 64 Ultimate installed on a partition of my 1TB data drive. The poor drive has like 4 partitions. That was probably ill-advised. Anyway, I want to:Partition the SSD, keeping the XP install intact Move my Windows 7 installation to the SSD on the new partition.
I bought a Toshiba Satellite L500-20Z, and it does not tell me which version I am running, ( 32or64 ) though I know it IS x64. The in-store shpeil said it was equipped with Win 7 Home premium 64bit, with 32bit recovery partition.
Question 1 - is there any way to tell between 32 or 64 (apart from a "Program Files (x64)" folder on my C: drive), and
Question 2 - how do I tell what build I have? (the above link says nothing)
Question 3 - how to tell if the recovery is 64 and not just 32 without wiping my existing install?
(I suppose I could take an image of my current C: drive and use that instead of the recovery partition if disaster strikes.... only trouble is with OEM theres so much bloat and crap that's incluided...)
I have a problem with migration from AHCI to RAID on existing win 7 x64. I had AHCI HDD connected to marvell SATA 6gbit controller. I wanted to create RAID 0 on intel controller (ICH10) I created hdd image in acronis. Enabled RAID in bios and Created RAID 0 disk (2 x hdd) Restored from image to new raid hdd . When I try to boot win i get blue screen . error 0x0000007B ( so win cant recognize hdd)When I boot from win CD installer have access to raid disk what shall I do? I my opinion system doesn't have access to raid drivers. (maybe missing registry entries) i system32/drivers i have file iastor.sys but probably there is no registry entries how to add registry entries to system? How can I boot system??? ( in rescue mode windows also doesn't start)
I'm currently using Windows 7 Professional and have 4 internal HD's set up in RAID. Current Setup: 2 - 500GB drives in RAID 0 2 - 500GB drives in RAID 1
I use the RAID 1 drives for backup purposes only. I have 3 partitions on Raid 0, named as follows: A:,B:,C: I have the OS (Windows 7) installed on C: partition and use the other two partitions on RAID 0 for data. Future Setup: I have just bought the Intel X-25 120GB SSD and would like to do a clean OS install on the SSD and still keep my RAID 0 and RAID 1 setup for other data.
Here's my question: 1. How can I install the OS on SSD without disrupting any data on the RAID 0 and RAID 1 HD's?
I would like to be able to install the OS on SSD and still have access to the data on my previous C: drive on RAID 0 (including the OS data). I want to delete the OS data on the RAID 0 HD from within Windows(on SDD) if that makes. Will that be possible?
I'm afraid of losing my RAID drives/data. I have read that I should unplug the RAID drives before I install Windows on SDD and then re-plug them again. Is there a particular order I should do that in? Will the BIOS recognize the old set up if I unplug/re-plug the old drives? way to install Windows on the single SSD without losing the existing RAID 0 & RAID 1 setup and data.
I have a smooth running Windows 7 system. I want to convert it to a Raid 1 system. I have a ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard with a Intel X48 chipset and ICH9R installed. It has 4gb memory, Core 2 Quadand a WD 640 gb drive. I have purchased another WD 640 to setup the Raid 1 array. I cannot find anyone who has installed it on a running system, they all build a new system. Can you install Rain 1 on a running system? If so how do you do it?
I've been having some issues with a computer that belongs to CEO of the company I work for. It was built by his son in law and that son in law doesn't really have time to work on it anymore so fortunately "end of sarcasm" that responsibility falls on me.Computer was running great until about two or three months ago where after shutting it down for the night and turning it back on in the morning would cause the computer to reboot three times after going through POST and during 4th time he was able to boot into OS (WIN7 64bit). I updated his bios and that seemed to fix the problem, BUT the computer was set in a Raid 1, but for some reason it is no longer set up that way. I see both HDD as separate HDD in "My Computer" C: & D:, both are 600GB with about 400GB of space free. How can I return them into their raid 1 configuration? MOBO is GA-X58A-UD7 Rev 2, Intel Core i7 970 cpu with 12GB DDR3 RAM Total. He has about $10,000 worth of programs on it (Electrical & Mechanical Engineer) and it would take me weeks if I had to start from scratch.
I have an Asus Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard and have Windows 7 Installed on a 96gb kingston ssd.
I now bought 2x 256gb Samsung 830s and want to run them in raid. If I set my RAID in bios, I cannot boot into my kingston ssd, it blue screens. If I set it to AHCI I cannot run my ssds in Raid.
I can do a fresh install on the ssds but how do I move my programs and data over? BTW.. I have Norton Ghost 15 which was provided with the Sammy 830s...
So i would like to buy a whole new computer. but i want to keep the operating system which is windows 7 professional. It's installed on the hard drives as raid 5. now i know that the raid key or whatever it's called is stored int he bios so just plugging the hard drives into a motherboard that supports raid 5 won't work. So what can i do to install everything that i have on these hard drives into a new system? Also the operating system is registered online would i be able to re register it or something? i don't have the new computer yet i'm just looking around for something good and for a good deal.
I have an issue merging an user to an existing domain on my windows 7 ultimate 64bit OS. let me explain my problem in detail. I am using almost 20 computer connected to my domain successfully those computer are using windows 7 32 bit. Now i trying to connect this 64bit OS to my domain. I created user account. When I try to mention the domain it is giving the error message that " The Domain is not available ". Also while I was creating the use account, I saw the entirely an different wizard for user account. There I was not able to mention the domain name. I was wondering weather I need to change any views or I need to change any settings. I don't know.
I want to install windows 7 64 bit on my system which has a raid array. My motherboard is an Asus M3A78-T and my CPU is an AMD Phenom 9950 Agena 2.6GHz Quad-Core Black Edition.
I am wanting to upgrade from Win7 32-bit to Win7 64-bit. I am told this will require a clean re-install of Win7. That isn't a problem in and of itself. My question is what will happen to the other RAID 0 arrays in the box? Since they are "software" RAID 0 arrays that were created by WIn7 32-bit after it was installed will they survive intact when I install a new version of Win7 on the base drive? My base drive is not part of a RAID setup. Will the new Win7 64-bit install recognize the two separate RAID 0 arrays automatically? I hate the idea of having to try to backup a couple of TB of data from the RAID 0 arrays (and then restore it) just to install Win7 64-bit.
I have a Dell XPS M2010 that I recently changed to 64 bit running Windows 7. Since I have had the computer there have been issues with the display driver not responding but when I check for updates, it says best driver is already downloaded. Not a day passes by when the display crashes and recovers on the average of at least 5 times. There has to be another driver that will work for this thing but I am not having any luck finding it. Can someone please tell me how to fix this issue
I am thinking of upgrading my Vista 32bit pc to Windows 7 64bit to make use of the full 4Gb RAM that my system has. I have 2 disks installed and one has a lot of data files on it. Can I remove the data disc (it isn't needed to run my Vista system), do a custom install of Windows 7 64 bit, reinstall all drivers and programs, then plug the data disc back in and see the data? Or do I really need to copy all this data to another humungous external drive, do the upgrade, then copy it all back again as Microsoft recommends?
I'm about to do a destructive install to Win 7 64bit, to upgrade my existing Win 7 32bit installation. I already have a partition in my hard disk ( K: ) where existing User profiles/data are stored. Luckily there is only my profile and one for a guest user. I've read through some of the Tutorials on this site on how to create new users on a different drive/partition at the point of installing Win 7, and I've read how to change the User Folder Name of a profile. The fear I have is that the newname user in the 64bit will obliterate the oldname at the point of being used for the first time.
I have a 1TB drive I want to install windows on. There is no existing windows installation on the drive, only music, movies, and other files and documents. Is it OK to install windows without formatting this drive? I don't have anything to back up all they data.
i have a windows7 laptop and i have to install windowsxp. but the problem is that there is an error screen after showing the ''SET UP IS STARTING WINDOWS'
I have seen the great tutorial for doing a clean install. In this case I am looking for another tip. My computer is already Windows 7 with lots of software. Performance has come to a point I want to do a clean install and start all over. The question? The Windows 7 install should be a piece of cake, but I think keeping track of all the software and reinstalling it can be a pain.
I have W7 installed, works fine. I bought 2 HDDs and wanna add them just as data disk and set up as RAID1. If I set up RAID in bios, Windows crashes when loading with classic blue screen + restart. Is there any way to make it work (install some driver etc.) or do I have to reinstall Windows with RAID set up prior to Windows installation? I have Asus P7P55D-E board.
I have install xp on raid striped but when i try to install win 7 the driver i have are not the correct ones i have a dfi lanparty tu p45 t3rs mb and two wd 500gb hdd. i have looked around but cant find any others anything i can do or anone know where i can get driver
I installed a recent (2012) game yesterday on windows 7 64-bit and when it finished it had a checkbox "Install DirectX". I clicked it and it showed progress installing but some of the files had the directx9_ description. That seemed bizarre because windows 7 already have the latest directx 11 version. Opening dxdiag it showed version directx 11. Is there any way i can re-install the latest version or that installer didn't change anything? Should i do a system restore prior to that installation or am i ok and have the latest version of directx? I want to have directx11 support in most of my games.
So I spent a lot of time getting my windows 7 install the way I want. I plan on upgrading to a new lenovo w530 when they are released relatively soon. I'm not sure the best way to move my windows installation EXACTLY like it is to the new machine. I will be transferring the physical SSD itself to the new machine so imaging it to a new drive i not a step I need to take.
I have a 320gb (255 free) drive and just purchased a 120gb SSD. I have external SATA -> USB bays and extra computers that can do the transferring. My windows partition is currently only 45gb. The current 320gb drive has 4 partitions 2 of which are 10g+ recovery partitions I no longer want. (and can use the space now that I am on a small drive). Windows 7 built in backup will only image the exact partition sizes, meaning if I was going to a bigger drive that's fine I could resize after. but because im going to a smaller drive i cant even write the image to it. Acronis this got me very close, it cloned the drive (including recovery partitions, but i planned on removed those afterwards) but failed to boot, I ran windows recovery to try and rebuild the boot sector but it wasn't able to. How can I keep everything but switch drives? The best thing I can think of now (and very sad) is to install a fresh copy of windows 7 than erase the install partition and copy over the install partition from the 320gb drive, and I have a strong suspicion this wont go smoothly.
