Setting Up A RAID 0 From An Existing Windows 7 Install?

Apr 1, 2012

As part of the chipset driver installation, it also installed the RAID and SATA drivers that Nvidia provides.I have a 300GB HDD on the primary IDE channel although I currently boot from one of my SATA hdd's.How would I go about transferring my OS to a RAID 0?Would it be possible to just system image my current OS onto the IDE drive and then format my two SATA hdd's, enable RAID in BIOS and then use Seagate Disc Wizard to install the system image onto the RAID 0?Is seagate disc wizard capable of transferring to a RAID drive??Have the RAID drivers definitely been installed with the Chipset drivers and will Windows recognise the RAID array?Have heard that you have to set up a boot partition the same size as the image on the RAID 0, would it then be possible to expand that to use the entire RAID partition

Moving Existing Windows 7 Pro 64Bit OS Install To RAID 5?

Jan 3, 2011

I have the following MOBO:

ASUS P7P55D-E EVO
2X80gb Western Digital SATA Drives
2x2TB Samsung Spintpoint SATA Drives

I have already been using the machine with another 80Gb Western Digital SATA Drive with Windows 7 Pro 64Bit installed and now want to convert to RAID 5 for redunancy in case of Drive failure (We all say we will back up but we are all lazy when it comes to it LOL).I have taken out the original OS drive and plugged it into the E-SATA connector on the MOBO, gone into the BIOS, turned on RAID for the SATA Ports on the MOBO, and connected the 2 X 80Gb Boot drives. Entered the Hardware RAID Controller POST, and created the RAID 5 Volume from the 2 X 80Gb Discs. Now boot with Acronis Wester Digital edition.Clone the Original 80Gb Disc to the new Raid Array.Shut machine off, remove original OS 80gb Disc from E-SATA port.Boot machine. It starts to boot, and gets as far as the Windwos 7 Microsoft 4 Colour logo and then I get an error and then have to boot into Windows 7 from DVD and go through the repair process. When the Repair has run it reports the following:

The following startup option will be repaired:

Name: Windows Boot Manager
Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}

The following startup options will be added:

Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recoverye52d0bc2-1f15-11df-af10-d764fe3715b8Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=D76190 MB)

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as:C:BootBCD.Backup.0001 However it fails to do the update How do I get this RAID to boot successfully? I *don't* want to have to re-install the Operating System as that is just too painful a thought?

Converting To Raid 0 Windows 7, Not Hardware Raid 0

Apr 25, 2012

I have tried to find the way to do this, but without success as I cannot see the wood for the trees.

I have a mature Windows 7 system, with so many applications loaded that rebuilding from scratch is just not an option. I have a 300MB Velociraptor wholly given over to the OS and another empty 300MB VR. I want to extend, that may not be the right word, my OS to use both disks in Raid 0.

Converting XP Pro To Windows 7 - RAID Driver?

Sep 13, 2012

I am converting my 2.66 GHz Core II Duo machine from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Ultimate. When I loaded XP, during the installation process, Windows asked me to load RAID software from a floppy disk to enable the RAID and SATA ports on my Intel DQ965GF motherboard. Will Windows 7 need the same software loaded, or will it be able to access the SATA ports and/or have the RAID software driver built into the operating system? I have the latest driver/software update from Intel for the motherboard, but have not installed anything yet.

Installing SSD On An Existing RAID System?

Dec 9, 2010

I'm currently using Windows 7 Professional and have 4 internal HD's set up in RAID. Current Setup: 2 - 500GB drives in RAID 0 2 - 500GB drives in RAID 1

I use the RAID 1 drives for backup purposes only. I have 3 partitions on Raid 0, named as follows: A:,B:,C: I have the OS (Windows 7) installed on C: partition and use the other two partitions on RAID 0 for data. Future Setup: I have just bought the Intel X-25 120GB SSD and would like to do a clean OS install on the SSD and still keep my RAID 0 and RAID 1 setup for other data.

Here's my question: 1. How can I install the OS on SSD without disrupting any data on the RAID 0 and RAID 1 HD's?

I would like to be able to install the OS on SSD and still have access to the data on my previous C: drive on RAID 0 (including the OS data). I want to delete the OS data on the RAID 0 HD from within Windows(on SDD) if that makes. Will that be possible?

I'm afraid of losing my RAID drives/data. I have read that I should unplug the RAID drives before I install Windows on SDD and then re-plug them again. Is there a particular order I should do that in? Will the BIOS recognize the old set up if I unplug/re-plug the old drives? way to install Windows on the single SSD without losing the existing RAID 0 & RAID 1 setup and data.

How To Setup Raid 1 On Existing System 7

Nov 19, 2009

I have a smooth running Windows 7 system. I want to convert it to a Raid 1 system. I have a ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard with a Intel X48 chipset and ICH9R installed. It has 4gb memory, Core 2 Quadand a WD 640 gb drive. I have purchased another WD 640 to setup the Raid 1 array. I cannot find anyone who has installed it on a running system, they all build a new system. Can you install Rain 1 on a running system? If so how do you do it?

Re-Setup RAID 1 On Existing Drives?

Feb 21, 2013

I've been having some issues with a computer that belongs to CEO of the company I work for. It was built by his son in law and that son in law doesn't really have time to work on it anymore so fortunately "end of sarcasm" that responsibility falls on me.Computer was running great until about two or three months ago where after shutting it down for the night and turning it back on in the morning would cause the computer to reboot three times after going through POST and during 4th time he was able to boot into OS (WIN7 64bit). I updated his bios and that seemed to fix the problem, BUT the computer was set in a Raid 1, but for some reason it is no longer set up that way. I see both HDD as separate HDD in "My Computer" C: & D:, both are 600GB with about 400GB of space free. How can I return them into their raid 1 configuration? MOBO is GA-X58A-UD7 Rev 2, Intel Core i7 970 cpu with 12GB DDR3 RAM Total. He has about $10,000 worth of programs on it (Electrical & Mechanical Engineer) and it would take me weeks if I had to start from scratch.

Converting MS Office Disc Install To USB Flashdrive Or SD Card?

Jan 3, 2012

I have seen my own question answered somewhere but can't find - and the question is broader than must MS Office: how to convert any Application that is intended for CD/DVD install to format that can install [under Windows] from SD or Flash drive??

My experience with MSO [in this case I need MSO 2007] is that its pretty friendly to install. Is it merely a matter of copying all files including hidden ones, or must I somehow convert the .iso to something intelligible via usb?

DirectX Install Over Existing?

Nov 4, 2011

I installed a recent (2012) game yesterday on windows 7 64-bit and when it finished it had a checkbox "Install DirectX". I clicked it and it showed progress installing but some of the files had the directx9_ description. That seemed bizarre because windows 7 already have the latest directx 11 version. Opening dxdiag it showed version directx 11. Is there any way i can re-install the latest version or that installer didn't change anything? Should i do a system restore prior to that installation or am i ok and have the latest version of directx? I want to have directx11 support in most of my games.

Can't Get W7 To Install Over Existing Vista Partition

Aug 18, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on an HP DV6-1253cl notebook from a USB flash drive and running into problems that are preventing the install. (Note: It's not the rig that is in my system specs.)

When I try and clean install Windows 7 64-bit over the existing Vista system partition (C), I get the following error.

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

Thing is, setup shows that partition as well as the HP recovery partition and an external USB drive that is also connected to this notebook and offers all of those as choices for installing Windows 7 onto.

Can anyone help me figure out why Windows 7 won't install on the existing Vista C partition and tell me how to get it to install?

Toshiba OEM 7 Home Premium - Tell If The Recovery Is 64bit And Not Just 32bit Without Wiping Existing Install

Sep 3, 2010

I bought a Toshiba Satellite L500-20Z, and it does not tell me which version I am running, ( 32or64 ) though I know it IS x64. The in-store shpeil said it was equipped with Win 7 Home premium 64bit, with 32bit recovery partition.

Question 1 - is there any way to tell between 32 or 64 (apart from a "Program Files (x64)" folder on my C: drive), and

Question 2 - how do I tell what build I have? (the above link says nothing)

Question 3 - how to tell if the recovery is 64 and not just 32 without wiping my existing install?

(I suppose I could take an image of my current C: drive and use that instead of the recovery partition if disaster strikes.... only trouble is with OEM theres so much bloat and crap that's incluided...)

Can't Install RAID 0 Drivers

Jan 4, 2010

I've read several forum threads on this, but am still having trouble. I have win 7 32bit RC up and running for a long time on a 500 gig WD. Bought two 1Ts for a raid 0. I have the RAID chosen correctly in the BIOS, and the utility works fine. At the clean install for either 64 or 32 bit, I try to choose the drivers which I have downloaded from Intel and Asus, and tried to use the Vista drivers off my P5Q install disk, and still, Win 7 does not recognize the drive.

I have been home building and using computers for the past 25 years and I guess technology has gotten way over my hobbiest head. I have tried the USB flash drive route and I doesn't work either. Please, I know of the F8 workaround for unsigned drivers, but that doesn't work either. So, how are people raiding Win 7 at clean install?

Second question, is there a good tutorial at technet.com (which I can't find there) or someother place that tells step by step how to raid under disk manager in win 7?

Re-install Of Windows 7 With RAID 0 Drive

Nov 20, 2010

My PC is currently using a single RAID 0 drive that contains my Windows install and all my data in a single partition C: (I'm well backed up so happy with the risk of RAID0)

The RAID0 drive is setup by my motherboard controller so Windows just sees the one drive.

I am thinking of adding an separate drive for windows, hopefully an SSD. I would like to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on the new disk then rename the old RAID0 drive to something different such as D: . Then reorganise it into just a data disk.

My question is.. will the new Windows 7 installation just see the old RAID0 disk as another disk? I know this would work witha normal disk, but does RAID0 transfer over to a new installation ok?
