Toshiba OEM 7 Home Premium - Tell If The Recovery Is 64bit And Not Just 32bit Without Wiping Existing Install

Sep 3, 2010

I bought a Toshiba Satellite L500-20Z, and it does not tell me which version I am running, ( 32or64 ) though I know it IS x64. The in-store shpeil said it was equipped with Win 7 Home premium 64bit, with 32bit recovery partition.

Question 1 - is there any way to tell between 32 or 64 (apart from a "Program Files (x64)" folder on my C: drive), and

Question 2 - how do I tell what build I have? (the above link says nothing)

Question 3 - how to tell if the recovery is 64 and not just 32 without wiping my existing install?

(I suppose I could take an image of my current C: drive and use that instead of the recovery partition if disaster strikes.... only trouble is with OEM theres so much bloat and crap that's incluided...)

Clean Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit From Vista Home Premium 64bit?

Feb 28, 2010

I got windows 7 ultimate 32bit free from my school, and decided that I wanted to clean install, and not upgrade it. I transferred all my files off, booted the laptop up with the windows 7 disk, and proceeded to clean install. I didn't have the drivers cd for my laptop, but I just wiped my drive and installed 7 anyway. Now I have windows 7 ultimate 32bit, and can only use 3 of my 4 gigabytes of memory.. The thing I don't really understand is the whole upgrading option, and like, I know that it's a windows 7 32bit dvd, but it doesn't seem right to go from 64bit to 32bit. So is there anyway I can make it 64bit without having to buy a new dvd? And if not, how much am I missing out on, with not having 64bit, especially with having 4 gigabytes of ram?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit / Starter 32bit (Partitions) Dual Boot

Jun 23, 2011

I have just purchased a new pc that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which wont run my company software, which was made in 1995, 16 bit. This 16bit software ran fine on my previous pc, which had Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. But the 64 bit Windows 7 version wont run it, I cant use Windows XP Mode on my version of Windows 7, need Pro - Ultimate Version.

I want to install and run the Windows 7 32-bit I have, on my new pc (I still have the installation disk) on a separate partition and keep the 64 bit version to. Is this possible to install both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and then select which to run when the pc boots?

'Repair' Install Of Italian Home Premium 32bit?

Mar 2, 2012

I have a problem with an Italian Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium installation that I have been unable to resolve. So I am resorting to a 'repair' install.I downloaded the English Win 7 32-bit generic version as an ISO file and started to perform an 'upgrade' install. However, I didn't get very far before I received the message that I couldn't upgrade due to the language difference.I searched on the internet but could not find an Italian version. I did find a language pack for Italian, but it is claimed to be for higher versions of Win 7 than Home Premium. In any case it isn't clear to me what I would have to do with this language pack. where I can find an applicable ISO or what else I can do in order to proceed?

At this point I'm not sure if I must first reset the BIOS boot order in Setup or if just having the DVD in the drive will prompt me to press any key to continue. FWIW, I'm using a Liteon DVD-ROM drive Model eTDU108.

Cannot Install Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Aug 14, 2012

I am having a problem. The OS(Windows 7 x64) finishes installing but when it finishes it boots up again like normal then flashes a quick blue screen error message. I have tried doing what the comments told you to do except for downloading the ISO and burning it to a disk. I just get the same error. I have researched this processor and it turns out it has been known to be VERY dodgy with Windows 7 64-bit.

Fresh Windows Home Premium 64bit Install, Important Drivers Are Gone

Aug 29, 2012

Windows 7 re-install driver recovery failure For one reason or another, i decided to re install windows 7 onto my Samsung 7 Chronos. Since I've had no issues in the past with re installing vista on my other machine, i mistakenly thought this would be a walk in the park. Anyway, now after re installing windows, multiple drivers have gone missing, and i cannot connect to the internet (on that machine) to allow windows to find them for me.The devices that are missing drivers are the following

ethernet controller (location PCI bus 3. device 0, function 0 manufacturer unknown)
Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless- N + WiMAX 6150 (location Port_#0003. Hub_#0004
Network Controller ( location PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0)
PCI simple communications Controller (location PCI bus 0, Device 22, function 0)
SM Bus Controller (location PCI bus 0, device 31, function 3)
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (location PCI bus 4, device 0, function 0)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(All of these devices have the code 28 error)

Also, My Standard VGA Graphics adapter cannot start (code 10)I have the recovery disk for windows 7, yet it failed to install these drivers. I have 1 working USB slot, which i can use to carry the drivers over from the computer i am currently using, to the one which is severely crippled at the moment.

Windows 7 Home - Upgrading From 32bit To 64bit (Requires Clean Install)

May 11, 2011

I have a computer running a 32 bit oem version of windows 7 home. I really need to change this to a 64 bit version. I do not want to do this illegally. Can I buy this upgrade copy of 7 professional, perform a clean install of windows prof. 64 bit with the upgrade disc, and then use my current oem 32 bit home disc and or license key, to validate that i do in fact have a copy of windows currently.

So technically I wont be "Upgrading" from 32 to 64, I will be re-installing. I have asked several tech savy friends, and while they don't think it cant work, they are unsure. Essentially I am asking if anyone knows what validation windows requires for its upgrade discs. I am given to understand it requires you to put in your original windows disc at some point, and i assume your original key, but will it accept a 32 bit disc/key?

Vista Home Premium 32bit To 7 Premium, 62% BSOD

Nov 2, 2009

The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.

I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.

I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.

I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.

It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.

Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

Windows 7 Home Premium System Recovery?

Aug 3, 2011

I have an Asus G73 laptop that I am wanting to do a system recovery on. It works but it's very qwirky and has occasional lock ups. Somehow, one of the automatic Windows updates that was installed deleted all of my old restore points, all the way back to when I first bought the thing. Anyway, I can't get it to burn a full set of recovery disks which is apparently not that uncommon with these machine. Asus actualy responded to an inquiry I sent them (although it takes like, two weeks to get each reply. The dialog has been going on for weeks). They told me to go ahead and do the F9 on start up and tell it to restore the OS partition.

- Asus recommended that I just do the "restore Windows to first partition only". This will leave the other partitions as is. I have a second partition that is for data, games, etc. There is also a third partition that is for MS Office 2010 if I ever decided to purchase the program and activate it. I have all the Office software I need from work so I don't need this third partition. Actualy what I would like to do is just have one large partition with everything on it, including the recovery directory and the OS, restored back to exactly like it was the day I got it. Can this be done with the F9 on start up method?

Moving Existing Windows 7 Pro 64Bit OS Install To RAID 5?

Jan 3, 2011

I have the following MOBO:

ASUS P7P55D-E EVO
2X80gb Western Digital SATA Drives
2x2TB Samsung Spintpoint SATA Drives

I have already been using the machine with another 80Gb Western Digital SATA Drive with Windows 7 Pro 64Bit installed and now want to convert to RAID 5 for redunancy in case of Drive failure (We all say we will back up but we are all lazy when it comes to it LOL).I have taken out the original OS drive and plugged it into the E-SATA connector on the MOBO, gone into the BIOS, turned on RAID for the SATA Ports on the MOBO, and connected the 2 X 80Gb Boot drives. Entered the Hardware RAID Controller POST, and created the RAID 5 Volume from the 2 X 80Gb Discs. Now boot with Acronis Wester Digital edition.Clone the Original 80Gb Disc to the new Raid Array.Shut machine off, remove original OS 80gb Disc from E-SATA port.Boot machine. It starts to boot, and gets as far as the Windwos 7 Microsoft 4 Colour logo and then I get an error and then have to boot into Windows 7 from DVD and go through the repair process. When the Repair has run it reports the following:

The following startup option will be repaired:

Name: Windows Boot Manager
Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}

The following startup options will be added:

Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recoverye52d0bc2-1f15-11df-af10-d764fe3715b8Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=D76190 MB)

A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as:C:BootBCD.Backup.0001 However it fails to do the update How do I get this RAID to boot successfully? I *don't* want to have to re-install the Operating System as that is just too painful a thought?

How To Get Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit To Always Show Same HDD

Sep 15, 2011

I have an issue with HDD letters being changed by the operating system. It is highly bothersome that I cant keep each volume letter unchanged so I can identify each one of my 6 hard drives + the Usb drives. I always keep 2 HDD inside the PC tower plus another 4 inside an external enclosure. Additionally I have an external Sabrent USB-DSC5 Hard Drive adapter with one HDD or Optical drive connected to it and the PC.

Is it possible from Windows 7 to set it in such a way that the drives lettering e.g. C E F G H J K etc etc remain linked to each individual HDD? If Windows does not offer that capability how do I solve this need? Is there any known software I could install that deals with this issue and solves it efficiently?

and then restarts itself again...it came up with "windows has failed to logon" i selected "Startup Repair" it took 2 days continuously repairing it up...but it goes on for "attempting repairs''...finally.i lost my patience and press cancel..it hanged up again..i restarted my PC it again came up with BSOD again mentioned above. When i tried to run startup repair, this time it wont start...Then i tried to load windows in safe mode,no luck,in safe mood with command prompt to run chkdsk, but i wont load..it stuck up at driver.sys... i got an answer to run tools for checking up my hard drive,i downloaded DFT from Hitachi and run it ...but it wont..it stuck up with a cursor blinking and saying "Loading DFT"...i waited for 2 hrs but nothing happens...Then i ran seagate tools..it runs..check for errors ...it came up with answer : Bad Sectors Found..then i ran up advance test to repair bad sectors..it repaired 2 sectors and then : "Repair Failed Bad Sectors Found.."i was just googling up to see if Bad sectors Can be repaired...i found HDD Regenerator..but i dont know if it can really repair Bad Sectors on my hard drive..

1) should i first go for HDD Regenerator to repair Bad Sectors...

2)Should i backup my data....?

if,i should backup my data first..

1)which software would be the best for backing up data...?

2) should i clone my hard disk or create an image of my hard disk?
