Memory Not Allocating Correctly - Crashing On Windows 7 64bit
Jul 26, 2012
I've had 4gigs of RAM installed for very long and I was able to work fine with my browser open + Photoshop and Blender in Win XP. I've quite recently upgraded from Win Xp 32bit to Win 7 64bit. After installing Win 7 64bit I added 2x1GB sticks into my system to take advantage of memory I had available. These "new" sticks were of lower clocks than my 2x2GB I had installed so I tested clocking them higher. Well that wasn't really stable so I figured running them at lower clocks wouldn't hurt all that much.
So everything seemed to work fine, Memtest didn't whine about anything and everything seems to work well enough. Now however I can't have my browser + the other programs open at the same time but windows keeps whining about it running out of memory even though the taskbar memory amounts don't add up at all. I have like 5Gigs used but adding everything doesn't even get up to 2Gigs. I know about windows keeping unused memory ready for use but it doesn't seem to be that or otherwise I don't know why my programs keep crashing all the time.
I have a load of tabs open in my browser but they don't take all that much memory. And I don't have any other programs open that would use that much for anything. My display turns black sometimes and sometimes (not every time) after that I get the display driver error and that it's recovered. I've had this very seldom before but now it seems quite common so I figured it might have something to do with that the display driver doesn't get enough memory to use either. Just a wild guess but textureloading in Blender doesn't work all the time etc. so it seems like a vRAM problem to me.
I have 4GB of RAM and it uses maybe half a gig. I use an extensive amount of mods and I know that it'll lag the game and cause it to crash. After doing some research I've seen some people allocating more memory to minecraft by creating a .bat file and inserting this coding (assuming I am using the correct words. Feel free to correct me):java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar "C:UsersAdrianDesktopMinecraft.exe" when i run it, I can only get it to run up to 1524. anything further and it says in CMD:
Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine.
I have a PC with a Gigabyte mother board and an i3 processor with 8gig ram and 2 tb hard drive. When I got the computer, it was running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Once I checked the computer, and found it was 64 bit compatible, I installed the 64 bit version. I did this as a new install. I have had nothing but problems since. I have an intelli mouse which clicks away when I try to go back or forward on a web page. If I try to check a box, it checks and then automaticaly unchecks. I have to keep clicking on it until the check stays. Some web pages won't even work, ie Bank of America Website. I can go to anything I want to except My Portfolio. It causes IE9 to shut down. When I try to open programs, it opens multiple times. I have formatted and re-installed again, but still have the same problems.
My USB ports and memory card reader have all of a sudden stopped working correctly . the mem card slots i cant tell if they are working at all but the usb ports are still sending power as iv still be able to charge my mp3 player but it just will not send any data .. this is made even more frustrating as i was using them both less that 10 hours ago iv not installed any new software and i have not changed any hardware so tbh im completely at a loss as to why they arnt working .iv done only the basic things to attempt to get them working again.. i un-installed them from device manager and let windows re-install them to no avail . I also went in to my bios and made sure that the ports were enabled .. they were
My old Office 2003 is unable to work normally on new Windows 64 bit Dell. Old files (transferred from old computer) and New Documents created on new computer using Word fail to open immediately and require User Account action from winword.exe every time I try to open any document (several steps). Any way to resolve this short of buying Office 2010?
I have just changed my PC from XP Pro to Windows 7 64bit Pro.Everytime I try to load a program I get the windows help box tell me that the program has stopped working and that it will try and find a solution. Of course it never does just shuts down. This only seems to be when I am using large programs such as Burning DVD pPrograms, X Planes, Avid Media to burn DVD.
Hardware Canonscan LiDE 600F / Windows 7 x64 Pro?I have tried to install "LiDE 600F Scanner Driver Ver. 12.1.2 (Windows 7 x64/Vista64/XP x64)" lide600fvst641212ea15.exe (version:12.1.2 Size:12.19MB Posted:10/19/2009). But although it SAYS that it has installed correctly, TWAIN does not fire up and I am unable to use the scanner. It also makes a weird noise through the computer's loud speaker going "dee-dum" every 2 seconds.(Fwiw, the sound is like two low-ish frequency guitar strings being plucked, about 1 octave apart). Also in the Control Panel unders System the scanner dialogue is disappearing and refreshing every 2 seconds as well.It sounds to me like something is rejecting the driver, but not showing any error message to screen.- Is there any way to (permanently) "give permission" to the driver to run?
When using Putty to SSH into a Linux server, while running XMING to display XWindows, when switching between Windows Windows and the PUTTY terminal window, sometimes PUTTY is frozen. Sometimes the application I switch from is frozen too. [code]
In the last two days I have noticed that my laptop is crashing and freezing really often and I would have to hold down the power button down to switch it off, etc. I have used hp support assistant, I don't want to restore factory setting.

I've been having major problems with svchost.exe.. From what I can gather, this process relates to Windows update service; and I don't want to end the wrong process (since each leads to one or more separate locations) I would like to know what I can do to remedy this; because it is extremely irritating! I am also having trouble with Explorer crashing, which of course bombs my desktop.. I've been experiencing missing paths for icons, even the parent location of an executable program shows the standard 'file' image Image reference : The latter of those two is the containing folder for that program of course; and the .ico is related to the file within it's properties, but does not show on the desktop or explorer window! )
my windows 7 64 bit system is only seeing 2.87gb of the 4gb installed memory. checking the Resource Monitor, it says 1153gb has been allocated to Hardware Reserved. any idea how i can use all the memory? i have already tried unchecking Maximum memory under msconfig/boot/advanced options without success. below is my system properties. i have flashed my system with the latest bios.

I have Win7 64bit with 6GB memory. The Windows System control panel agrees with that showing 6GB ram and nothing about a limitation. But today I was opening a lot of files and the program wouldn't let me open more files after Windows memory use reached 4GB. Task Manager showed 4GB used out of 6GB. I tried opening another file with a different program and my screen flickered and the program shut itself off, so it looks like the problem is with Windows and not the other programs. How do I get Windows to use all available memory not just 4GB out of 6GB?
While installing a printer software, a "insufficient memory, need 55 mb to install" message appears and installation stops. I have 366GB available in HD and 4GB RAM. What can I do?
I just rebuilt my computer, new motherboard and such and it has 6 GB of ram installed but it is only using 2 GB and has 4 GB hardware reserved. I have went and set the bios settings to memory remapping, I have tried reinstalling windows, I've tried unchecking the msconfig max memory, resetting the ram, and resetting the bios.
In the Systems window it reads that there is Total 6 GB Memory and only 2 GB usable, and in the Bios in the System information it also reads only 2 GB usable memory. The ram sticks aren't new, I took them form my old computer when I did the rebuilt, which are 3 Elipida 2GB 1333 MHz sticks. The motherboard is a Maximus III Gene with bios version 2103. OS is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
I tried looking online about this I need to know if there's a big difference between 12GB of system memory and 16GB of system memory. I don't play many games but I do convert HD videos a lot and these programs are a pig on ram. I have 8GB now and have ordered 2 4GB sticks and was wondering if I should stay with 2 4GB sticks and 2 2GB sticks(total12GB) or should I upgrade to 16GB.
Just re-installed windows 7 64bit brand new. I've noticed two times recently that after I get all bunch of windows automatic scheduled updates I had problems with rebooting as normal. To be more specifically, the screen get stuck at 15% configuring service pack.. I never had this problem before and I use the sale old Windows service Pack1 CD that I bought 2 years before. Is this some kind of update bug in the updates?
how to change H_D Names. I know how to do this but my problem is how to prevent existing drive names being re-allocated , usually when I had, say, a USB drive. Is this achieved by allocating these external drives letters towards the end of the alphabet , such as "z", "Y" .. etc ?
I have an Acer Aspire 5532 running Windows 7 64 bit with 3.00 GB ram and I have 2.75 GB of ram saying unusable. My computer is and has been very slow and I haven't recently added or removed any hardware.I have checked 2 possible problems from info I found on this problem being I've located msconfig, boot, advanced options, max memory is "unchecked" and have checked my bios which do show the correct amount of memory but I can not enable "memory remap" because bios does not support. I've added a resource monitor screen shot below.
I will start off by stating my relevant PC Specs for this thread:-
Asus P5B Deluxe MoBo Intel Dual Core E6600 @ 2.40GHz GeForce 7900 GS 512Mb 2 x 1GB DDR2 800MHz Corsair Value RAM (original) in Yellow Slots A1 & B1 2 x 1GB DDR2 800MHz Corsair Gaming RAM (NEW) in Black Slots A2 & B2
So I have just installed 2 extra GBs of RAM to bring my total to 4GB. After a successful boot and then checking my 'System' info Windows states 4.00GB of memory is installed but only 2.94GB is usable. Therefore I went ahead into my BIOS to enable the 'Memory Remap Feature'.However on reboot the PC gets to the 'Starting Windows' screen and doesn't get any further. The Windows logo doesn't start to appear. It just restarts going through all the usual screens again, eventually giving two options of:-
Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. The repair never works and Windows will never start normally again until I return to the BIOS to disable the mem remap.I reset the CMOS to Factory Default settings and tried again but did nothing. Also I have never updated the BIOS from the original version as I'm a bit scared to do so.I have looked hear for info on voltages and clocking but didn't get anywhere. Well got an overclock at 3.60Hz but only ran in Safe Mode. Obviously this is slightly irrelevant the above but was just trying stuff out and trying to learn more.
I have 6GB of ram installed on windows 7 64-bit ultimate. For some reason I'm noticing that the usage will rise past 50%, but I am unable to find all of the used resources. From what I found, I'm using roughly 3.2GB of RAM when I add up all the memory usage under the processes tab.
So my problem is I use to have 5.74GB of ram usable out of 6.00GB. Since a restart of my computer there is now only 1.74GB out of 6.00GB.So I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Home premium SP1.The ram is 1066MHz with 1 x 4GB and 1 X 2GB.I only have 2 slots on the computer.
I recently opened a minecraft server, not knowing that online my minecraft would run slower. I'm not 100% sure if its because i only have MB of dedicated video memory, but i'm pretty sure it isIs there anyways i could increase this or get other options on how to help my computer run minecraft

The repair never works and Windows will never start normally again until I return to the BIOS to disable the mem remap.Sometimes I have had a Blue Screen displaying the same errors as this thread:-Windows 7 64Bit BSOD's (IRQ_NOT_LESS and BAD_POOL_HEADER)I reset the CMOS to Factory Default settings and tried again but did nothing. Also I have never updated the BIOS from the original version as I'm a bit scared to do so.Have read about graphics card using part of the mem (which doesn't seem right with the 7900 GS as has it's own onboard mem) and also that voltages to the RAM should be increased.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop computer with Windows 7 and a 500GB hard drive. My hard drive is getting full. When I looked at the space left, I found out that my C drive and D drive are allocated the same amount of space (232 GB each). Can I allocate more space to the C drive without causing any issues? If so, what would be the proper amount to leave with the D drive.
To start, I have Windows 7, on Sony Vaio laptop. I have been working on the issues with the malware removal team, but now machine looks clean, I am still having issues. When starting the computer and going to the task manager, I can watch explorer.exe start at about 18K memory usage and then grow constantly until it is running with almost all of the computer's physical memory after about seven min. I cannot get the context menu to show up after a few min by right clicking on anything. I had been experiencing "freezing" while playing Eden Eternal (an online role playing game) before that, which made me consider malware and seek help here at BleepingComputer. The freezing has ended, last time I played on that machine at least, but now there seems to be some issue with the explorer.exe taking all of the memory. I haven't been using the machine since I don't trust that there's not something running in the background that shouldn't be. In resource monitor there were "connections" that had "-" for both the name and the PID, but I don't know if that was the malware of if that's normal somehow? Issue with explorer.exe seems to be limited to only one user account, and not the other one. That is to say that if I log on one of the other accounts explorer.exe behaves normally, as far as memory usage.
how to convert a shared video memory into dedicated video memory and system video memory? me and my friend have the same specs computers but the same game runs slow in my computer but it runs smoothly in his computer?
It loads fine but I wonder why doesn't the come up when it's booting up. It just stays there black. Is it because I have reinstalled my operating system way too many times? Because it's been like this since whenever I reinstalled it. Not a big deal but I'm just curious as of why. My windows is activated, btw.
