Windows Won't Load Up Correctly?
Oct 25, 2012
It loads fine but I wonder why doesn't the come up when it's booting up. It just stays there black. Is it because I have reinstalled my operating system way too many times? Because it's been like this since whenever I reinstalled it. Not a big deal but I'm just curious as of why. My windows is activated, btw.

I've had my standard DSL 6mbps (actually got 5.3mbps) service for a year, no real issues with it. Pages loaded as usual, always been using Google Chrome.2 weeks ago I switched over to U-Verse and "doubled" the speed to 12mbps (getting 10.5mbps). Now everytime i go to any website, doesnt matter if it's yahoo, google, youtue, tomshardware... it either fails to load completely and chrome says it can not find the site, or it will find the site but not load any images as all. Instead I have to keep hitting refresh 2-5 times until everything loads correctly.I tried this on my other PC too, and it does the same thing... i cleared out the cache and downloads so everything would run fresh but it didnt help. I then tried using IE, and still get the same thing.

I'm rebuilding/resurrecting a laptop - a past-generation gaming asus unit, core 2 duo, nvidia, etc etc. its all loaded up and running, but in device manager are listed a parent "unknown" device with three sub-components underneath, unknown. so I need to fetch device drivers, but don't know what these rascals are. the big things are ok. the detail does give us the PCI info:PCI Bus 7, Device 3, functions 2-4.

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal. First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly. After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects.

Windows randomly started having problems returning from hibernation and I cannot figure out why. Any time it returns from hibernation the screen is black but it has a backlight to it so I can tell it's on and I can hear the discs spinning so I know it's working. I have to hard boot it to get it back. I tried increasing the paging file size in virtual memory. I have 8GB of ram and I increased my paging file all the way to 16GB just to be safe. Reinstalled video card drivers.

I was playing around with a program called PartitionMagic, because I wanted to convert my external harddrive from NTFS to FAT32, but it didn't work, so I tried another program. Partition Manager. As soon as the installation started, the computer had a BSoD, and has started having this every time I try to boot the Computer. At first I thought this was only caused by the harddrive, but I put it to a test, by removing the harddrive, and adding my laptops harddrive instead. Sadly the same thing happens. It boots into the Windows logo, and then a BSoD appears, restarting my PC yet again.I've tried launching the Startup Repair, but it results in failure. The description tells me that the "Boot Configuration is corrupt", so I tried searching for a fix on this.
That led me to trying bootsect.exe and bootrec.exe on the command prompt, through both the advanced startup repair thing, and through the Windows 7 Installation DVD.Even though all the commands I've ran say they were executed successfully, it still gives me a BSoD on startup. As a last resort, I tried to format my harddrive through the Windows 7 DVD. This is where I noticed that it recognizes my harddrive, but tells me there is only 100 or so mb on it.Also if I try to do a system restore, it gives me "an unexpected error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Every time I put my computer to sleep or hibernate and wake it up, the computer resumes to a screen stating "Windows failed to shut down correctly" A recent hardware or software change might be the cause and I'm asked to choose how to restart.Quite similar to the screen I would get after a crash.

I have a series of applications that depend on an INI file being in the Windows directory. Also, many different users are allowed to log on and change the INI file. But Windows 7 places changed INI files in USER directories for the logged-on users. So my Apps never get to see the changes! How do I get Windows 7 to place my INI file in Windows directory where I need it?

I recently upgraded my machine to an AMD Sempron II X3 720 Black Edition. I've enabled virtualization in the bios. I've gone and downloaded the following two files from Microsoft's Virtual PC web page:
Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu - the Virtual PC installation
WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe - the virtual PC XP Mode file
I've installed both files but nowhere in my menu do I have a Windows Virtual PC folder to launch into Windows XP mode.
When I go to the C:Program FilesWindows XP Mode directory, all I see is this:
A folder called Tutorial
KEY.TXT
VXPEULA.txt
Windows XP Mode base.vhd
But nowhere do I have an icon in my start menu Virtual Windows XP shortcut.

just started cropping up about 2 days ago. For some reason, when I use my laptop on battery, the screen will go completely dark after about a minute of use. This most recently happened this morning. The first time this happened, I just held down my power button, and then turned the laptop on after a minute's wait. On that occasion, the laptop started up again, and it seemed to be waking up from hibernate or something.
But this morning, when I held down the power button and tried to turn it on again, it wouldn't. I plugged in my charger, and then the laptop was able to resume Windows, but the weirdest thing is, it said my battery was at 0%. The reason that seems odd to me is because it was fully charged last night. Right before the random screen turnoff, I checked my battery status, and it said 94%. So why did it go down to 0% after a minute and a half of use?
Now that my laptop is on, and connected to the charger, it is fully charged after about 10 minutes. Is it Windows 7? Or is it my laptop? The laptop will be 3 years old this November. Working on battery hasn't been a problem except for these past few days, and I haven't installed any new programs, or altered any settings that I'm aware of.

I have a PC with a Gigabyte mother board and an i3 processor with 8gig ram and 2 tb hard drive. When I got the computer, it was running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Once I checked the computer, and found it was 64 bit compatible, I installed the 64 bit version. I did this as a new install. I have had nothing but problems since. I have an intelli mouse which clicks away when I try to go back or forward on a web page. If I try to check a box, it checks and then automaticaly unchecks. I have to keep clicking on it until the check stays. Some web pages won't even work, ie Bank of America Website. I can go to anything I want to except My Portfolio. It causes IE9 to shut down. When I try to open programs, it opens multiple times. I have formatted and re-installed again, but still have the same problems.

I was using my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) just fine recently, and through half of yesterday. I did what I normally do when I leave a friends house...I shut it down correctly using the shut down option at the start menu, then pack it into my laptop bag (has a padded sleeve it fits into) and came home. Later that evening I tried to boot it up like normal. For some reason the wireless card takes forever to load and connect, so I typically turn it on and leave it there while I do something else. When I came back the PC said it was locked, which it never usually locks, especially after only 10 minutes. I unlocked the PC and it had my options for monitors (monitor only, expanded, monitor and tv, etc). I selected the PC monitor only and tried to load things like normal. Loaded a few programs and went to send an IM and the keyboard seemed to be stuck on the g or 8 key and wouldn't allow me to stop the input unless I clicked on the desktop. I could not click back in and delete it. Attempts to do so made the screen lock and give me the monitor options again.
At this point I figured it had to be virus/malware related so I tried to reboot into safe mode with networking. I got the options to come up but it was like the up arrow was stuck and wouldn't allow me to manually control and select an option. Had to hard reboot with the power key to try again. This time it would not move at all. I have two pc's and both have tTamviewer so I opened it on both and was able to remote in and do some scans. Spybot found a few things as well as Malwarebytes and I selected remove selected. Rebooted and still having the same issue. Tried scanning using my Avast Internet Security 7 scan and let it run overnight with Malwarebytes again. Malwarebytes brought back a PUP.funmoods (which I have uninstalled in add/remove programs and, while annoying it's showing up, don't believe to be the case because that was uninstalled months ago) and I had a huge list of files in Avast that said they could not be scanned. I have tried using system restore. I do notice when Windows boots up, it shows an empty command prompt box that eventually disappears and then a second one comes up later that says:
"AMD accelerated video transcoding device initialized Copyright (c) 2012 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. All rights Reserved."
I did recently update my graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650) to the latest driver. I have tried rolling back the driver and still no option. I entered the command in the command prompt to run check disk at next boot but it does not run or give an error. It just seems to skip it and go straight to Windows. A friend thought it was simply the input items on my PC giving it issues because the problem wasn't happening through Teamviewer on my Dell PC, however, that started exhibiting similar problems but not on the same scale.
Specs:
Intel Core i7 CPU
q720 @1.60 GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Bought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always. Here I attach screenshots of CPU-Z and the customary files for debugging BSODs. Full system specs: [URL].

There seems to be a bug in Windows 7 (as well as 8, from what I'm told) which causes the long date to be displayed with the day of the week all in lower case, such as "monday". I don't know what a "monday" is, the word does not exist either in my English dictionary or in my annotations of the grammar lessons I took back in primary school, as a child. How can I fix this bug so that days of the week are displayed in their grammatically correct and proper form, such as "Monday" (the first letter being capitalized) ?

I've got a series of Excel 2003 spreadsheets with macros. They run just fine on a Windows XP machine. However, we recently moved them to a Windows 7 Pro machine. We still run them in Excel 2003, only now on a Windows 7 system. Problem is, they don't run right. No errors, but the one that is giving me grief needs to read from a csv text file. I don't thinki it is opening and/or reading the input fule. I don't understand why. Like I said, everything runs OK on WinXPSP3. I think I have all of the permissions set correctly. UAC is turned off and Elevated priveleges is turned off as well.
