View 3 Replies View RelatedLast week I had a Win XP desktop computer. I use a Netgear WGR614 V6 router. I have fiber to the house and use a Cat5e Ethernet cable to connect the router to the wall jack and Cat5e from the router to the XP computer. I also used Wi-Fi to connect my Windows 7 x64 new laptop and an older XP laptop to the Internet. Everyone was happy and all worked well! I set-up a new Dell Windows 7 x64 desktop computer (it currently connects to the Internet just fine).
During the period I was setting up the new Windows 7 desktop I had both the XP desktop unit AND the new Windows 7 desktop connected to the router via Ethernet cables (at that time both laptops could connect to the Internet). After I had transferred the XP files to the Win 7 computer I just shut down the XP computer and removed the Ethernet cable linking the XP computer and the router - the new Windows 7 computer still connected to the Internet fine (as it still does today).
I made 2 changes to the router:
1) I had the XP desktop connected to Port 3 on the back of the router and had the Windows 7 x64 desktop connected to Port 2 on the router.
2) I used Cat5e cable on the XP desktop and used a Cat 6 cable to connect the new Windows 7 desktop unit to the router.
Both laptops see my router name but neither laptop can connect - even ran the troubleshooting routine. Could simply using Cat6 cable be causing a problem (Windows 7 desktop connects fine via the cable, laptops can not connect via Wi-Fi)? Surely just changing the port I connect the desktop cable to the router with wouldn't cause any problem would it? Do I need to do some sort of set-up or configuration to the new desktop unit to make the router Wi-Fi work for the laptops?

View 2 Replies View Relatedjust last night after i was finished playing skyrim for the night, i saw on steam that i had no connection. so i looked towards the internet bars icon next to the clock and saw a yello triangle with a "!" in it. so i disconnected and reconnected but still the yellow "!". so i just decided i would try again tomorrow (today).when i woke up today it didn't have that error, so i decided to go to Internet on chrome, but it had that "webpage not available" (wouldn't work for ie either). i figured it would soon fix itself like it always had, so i tried playing mw3 on my xbox, but it wouldn't connect to live either o.o and when my mom wanted to watch netflix on the living room xbox, she couldn't connect either! then i figured out it was definatly my modem that was refusing to connect to anything.

Troubleshooting wizard is indicating that is is a network problem which leads me to believe that perhaps something to do with our change in modem. How I can get the homegroup to show again?

1.Type 2 adsl2+ cpe/iad modem-It has built in wifi.
2.A fiber internet connection.
3.A samsung smart tv with built in lan adapter (40 inch LED-no wifi but wifi ready)

Trying to access internet. 7 gives connection option of Broadband where ISP requires ID and Password. However, my ISP does not require this info to log on....its just "plug-n-play" I have run every test and diagnostic that I can find and the only prob I can find is something to do with the DNS, but have no way to fix the problem. The connection is Cable Modem, via LAN wire. One of the diagnostics recognizes my ISP, but still won't let me connect.

this is how my connection looks like. I got only modem & switch between my connection to the internet. note: I have no fileserver.
I've checked the following things with my other PC(=notebook windows 7 x86): modem, switch, cable and my network card and everything did work fine. note: I did use the same cable as I was using for the desktop PC to be sure that the cableline was fine. I made the next tests with my desktop PC.
Then done the next ones without success:system restore(1 week)winsock fixreinstalling the networkcardgiving static IP adress
My network card settings are the same for the both PC, set to automatically obtain IP address and DNS server addresses

I have Windows 7 64 bit. I bought a Netgear DGN2000 approximately two years ago. It is working well. Currently, there is good connectivity between my laptop and the modem/router (wired and wireless).
I worked on my desktop this morning, uninstalled some programmes, but must have uninstalled a driver or something. I inserted the Resource CD, which installs the modem (although it is installed). Then it stalls at some point. If I troubleshoot, it states Windows do not detect a properly installed network adaptor.

When computers connected to the modem via ethernet cables, they can easily discover each other through the 'network' icon. But when I connect my laptop to the network's wifi, only the desktop computer can see the laptop in 'network' and not the other way. The laptop can't see any computers. When I tried to connect/open the laptop through the computer, error code 0x80070035 network path not found came up.I tried pinging the computers (both with ip address and name), and heres what happened:-when I ping desktop to laptop, it didn't work-when I ping laptop to desktop, there was response. Then the desktop showed up on the laptop's 'network', and I can view/transfer shared files. desktop can also connect/open the laptop's shared files. Pinging from desktop to laptop also works.I've checked things like firewall, make computer discoverable in network, services. They all make no difference to the situation. Where unless if I ping the desktop from my laptop, the desktop won't show up and file sharing won't work.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI had an existing pc with windows xp home. I just purchased a new pc with windows 7 home. Why I connected the windows 7 pc to the internet using dlink router I was able to access the internet. On the next day though, when I tried to connect again, I was not able to access the internet. Here are the tasks that I have already carried out to check the connectivity.
1. The windows 7 computer has a valid IP address, which means that ARP is working fine and my router is dispensing the addresses correctly.
2. When I try to ping the modem-router, there is no reply. So I am not able to access router using ICMP.
3. My old windows xp pc is able to connect and browse the internet. The problem is only with my new windows 7 pc.
My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network'). Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:
1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank.Here is what comes up with ipconfig/all:

View 7 Replies View RelatedWell yesterday after playing online games and surfing the web, so then i decided to go to bed and my laptop took longer than before so i then clicked cancel and tried refreshing i then shut down my laptop and it seems fine. But now today i turned on my laptop and it seems fine until i login when i log in it shows a black screen with only my cursor in the middle but i can still move my mouse around (this never happened before) then it goes to the desktop screen and my icons and gadgets were starting really slow but they came up in the end but then i look at my wifi conection it says No internet accsess but i looked over to my internet modem the internet was on. So then i opened the other laptop and i can use the internet, so i tried restarting my laptop and it did the black screen thing again and still no internet accsess. So I then switch to Safe mode networking and i can connect to the internet just fine i then went and looked at the Device manager and clicked on System devices and theres a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on Consumer IR Devices.

So then, I decided to check my brother's computer which is in the same room and he couldn't connect either. I turned my computer off and somehow, my brother's computer had internet access and could access the internet.
Posting from my brother's PC now. I have attempted everything, restarted the power to everything about 5 times. Our internet has always worked and has until today.
I have 2 Windows 7 computers one is a Hp Laptop and another is a Compaq Desktop I have been dealing with this problem for quite awhile and each time i go to try and correct the trouble i get unbelievably frustrated as in the end i never seem to make any progress. I have attempted to create a home group from both machines and when i do create a homegroup the other IS able to see the other but when i attempt to join from either one to the one that has created it always yields an error stating that "window cannot setup homegroup on this computer" The desktop is hardwired to my Dlink router and the laptop is connected wirelessly.

Now after playing a game via game booster I tried to acces Google Chrome and it says "this webpage is not available" I cant acces Skype or steam or anything that requires internet. I thought I had simply disconnected my self but when I went to check, it shows no networks. I thought this was my connection but then tried other devices "I-Mac, I-Pad, Windows XP Desktop and a DSI" and they all seem to find many networks and connect to D-Link fine.
