Harddisk Space Decreasing On Windows 7?
May 22, 2011
I am wondering why my Harddisk space on windows 7 keeps decreasing. From 30 Gb of free space to 13Gb. As i had 2 partition. All my downloads are in my second partition while i only store applications like games in the first. However i did not download anything but my free space in the first partition kept decreasing. I tried turning off system restore but only about 1Gb was restored. Is this some system settings with windows 7?

After installing a skin pack from called simplfy,I used a restore point that i created before installing the skin pack ill call it restore point A. i installed the skin pack again and then used system restore to restore to the same point (restore point A) without undoing the last restore which was restore point A. Earlier this morning I tried to save a text file and it said disk space was low.I know that wasn't correct a text file shouldnt exceed 14.75gb.So I checked the disk and it said 0 kb free. Restarted Computer opened defraggler (I didnt do anything with defragler I only used it to look at the graph) and ccleaner (I ran the file cleaner and the registry cleaner which cleared only 299mb) and I noticed that the space was returning back to normal at about 150 mb/sec. After about 6 hours the problem returned and now I'm posting this.

My hard drive space is suddenly decreasing rapidly (30MB every few seconds), and I don't know what's causing it. It was 14 GB a couple of days ago. I've restarted my computer, and I've deleted some data, so it's just under 1 GB now (it got to a critical point earlier where it was at 96 KB).My firewall was also oddly deactivated when I restarted my computer, but I've reactivated it now. I'm running a virus scan with AVG at the moment, but I have no idea what this could be.

My hard disk space is decreasing rapidly, about 150mb/sec. When I restart my PC it resets back to normal and starts decreasing again. Once it reaches zero, I can work any programs and browse the internet. It will happen in about 10-15 minutes again, maybe less. What do I do?

I've searched everywhere, including (when you click F1) in windows 7. I need a keyboard shortcut for increasing and decreasing volume, and I don't mean when playing a video or something, I mean the "general" one. (Not in Media Player)

i have a htpc at home, hooked up to a 1080p tv at 1920x1080. because i sit 10 feet from my tv, i needed to increase the text dpi to 150% so i can see what's on the screen. however, i found that increasing the dpi is just simply reducing the screen resolution to 1280x720, and then enlarged to 1920x1080 so everything is bigger. i know this is true because many program state that as my resolution. full screen Internet videos automatically go to 720p instead of 1080p (unless i disable dpi scaling for chrome, which makes my text small again). there is a dramatic decrease in detail (1080 -> 720) when watching blu-rays with 150% dpi because the resolution is lowered by dpi scaling. pictures in browsers are enlarged and not shown at the original resolution.dpi scaling is pointless if it just reduces resolution. is there a fix for this, or is dpi scaling just this poorly implemented in windows 7?

I noticed strange things about my HDD. (I have Windows 7 installed on my SDD, and not on the HDD). Says a weird sound and then sounds like it's charging up somehow, during this Windows lags. It usually happens when I Shutdown my machine. After the process, Windows will shut down immediately. Says "Not Responding" sometimes. And it says it at very silly places, like changing the wallpaper. During this, I can see the HDD activity constant lights on. Maybe I should get a new one.

I run my computer off an SSD.But I have 2 Samsung 2TB drives for storage.I regularly have to transfer filed from one 2TB drive to the other. Until not it has always been a fairly speedy process.I am transferring a large file (5GBish) and for the first 5/10 seconds it transfers between 120 MB/sec - 150 MB/sec, but after that it suddenly starts slowing down, until about a minute later it's sitting at around 20 MB/sec.

Recently I have formatted my Usb External Harddisk with exFAT, as I heard of the benefits of it over FAT32. Its an IMATION Drive with 320gb storage. Device Properties: TOSHIBA MK3252GSX USB Device, The problem is that it takes forever to copy files from the drive as compared to when the format was FAT32. Currently, Im trying to backup all my files on my PC and I've been trying to copy out 60gb of Data that I started 10+ hours ago. The wierd thing is the progress bar moves a fraction and then stops for about 5mins before continuing the another fraction.

I've inherited my son's Asus eee. Great little machine for lugging around, but sloooow. I only need to have windows word and power point on it. With those two and avg, I only have 14 gb of 30 free.
I can't believe that this os and two programs should consume that much space. If so, what do people use these machines for?

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my 30 gb SSD. When I was done, there was about 14-15 gb left on the drive. After installing drivers, I had about 12 gb left. Then I used Windows Update and installed all the important updates. After all the updates, I had only 4-5 gb left. Is this supposed to happen? Why is it taking up so much space? Is there any way I can free up space on there?

I have completed my new build: i5-2500k, 8 GB RAM and a 64 GB SSD (Crucial M4).I want to install Win 7 Pro 64-bit on a partition on the SSD. I know the Win 7 64 specs say you need at least 20 GB of disk space to install. I figure I will reduce the page file to 1 GB and eliminate the hibernation file. If I do that, how much space will i need on the SSD partition?

I want to put an SSD in this computer for a boot drive. My plan was to install Windows and any important motherboard drivers on the SSD. What is the least amount of gigs I can get away with in an SSD for Windows 7 64 bit and mobo drivers. I was thinking either a 50 or 55 gig SSD. I think Windows 7 only uses 30 some gigs of memory and drivers should only use a couple gigs.
