Feb 12, 2013
Digging around i found a wopping 54GB of missing space in here Microsoft>Windows>Tempory Internet FilesBut the biggest file in there (with protected system files showing) is a 55KB jpeg. Everything else seems to be icons from my Favourites folder and a few docs.

About 6 months ago I set up a new machine dual boot using GParted with the following configuration:
/dev/sda1 ntfs (Windows 7 system reserved) 100 MB
/dev/sda2 ntfs (Windows7 C: drive) 99 GB (includes 4 GB of preloaded page file space)
/dev/sda3 ntfs (Shared drive - Windows7 E: Drive / Ubuntu sda3) 801 GB
/dev/sda4 extended partition 32 GB
/dev/sda5 ext4 (Linux Root) 30 GB
/dev/sda6 linux-swap 2 GB
I set it up so that I could access my E: drive from either the windows or ubuntu operating system. It has worked perfectly so far (about 6 months). But, here is the problem:For some reason as the share drive (my E: drive / sda3) grows Windows thinks that the windows system drive (sda2/c:drive) is also growing. So that now I have a low storage warning stating that there is only 8.76 GB of free space left on my 99 GB C: drive. When, in reality, there should be about 77 GB of free space. I've made hidden files/folders viewable and downloaded treesizefree so I know what should be on the drive. The Treesizefree output shows the expected 22 GB of space but also shows only 9 GB of free space. So, the missing space is nearly exactly the size of my shared drive (sda3/E:drive). So somehow, I think the windows OS is double counting my shared E: drive against my C: drive.

I have an out of the box 120 gig Intel SSD which is saying I currently have 57.9 GB free of 96.6 GB. (I can account for what space I have used, this is not the problem). The problems is that while I understand the drive will have some space reduction meaning not all 120 GB is useable but 23.4 GB is a bit much, no??

I am using a laptop that has a SSD. My pc says it has a total of 95.3 GB of space. And it says that 8.3 GB is free. But when I select all the folders in my SSD, the computer says it is only using 60.3 GB of space. I am wondering what happened to the 35 GB of space. I'm not running any other program other than chrome at this point. So I don't think any programs are hogging the space. (Other than the OS and other minor programs, razer synapse, steam etc.)

For a long time I was wondering why I had so little space on my hard drive when I had hardly used it. Finally, today I ran SpaceSniffer and found that there was some 58gb of unknown space that it couldn't identify. So then I used TreeSize to find where all that space was and it showed me a txt file called "Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Setup_20120621_230001924-MSI_netfx_Core_x64.msi.txt" that was about 60gb in size! Does anyone know what this file is for and why it's so large? Can I just delete it? It's in my Windows temp folder and I don't think I would have found it unless I had used TreeSize as admin because I searched for large files before and never came up with anything

my computer is telling me that my spare harddrive has less memory than there should be. the hdd is an old 160gb drive, which in reality has 149gb. after filling up the drive with 70gb of backup, it shows that i have 35 gb left. so where did the other 45 gb go? i highlighted all the files with CRTL+A, but it still only showed 70gb.

I have a 1TB hard drive partitions into a C drive and D drive. The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit. The C drive is my every day stuff, and I use D to store media, music, video etc. Today I wanted to access the D drive and it was not there. The C drive is listed as usual. I went to Disk Management and the missing D drive was not there as well. I don't know if this explains things, but I ran a partition analysis program and it showed 500 gigs as unallocated. But that space is also not noted in disk management. Right now I am running partition recovery software to see if the files are somewhere, but it will take a few hours.

I'm using Compaq Presario CQ40-627TUMy Laptop SpecIntel Dual Core Processor T4400 (2.2GHz, 80Mhz FSB,1 MB L2 Cache)- 2048MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory- 320GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive- 14.1' TFT WXGA High-Definition widescreen LCD panel with brightviewtechnologynd i'm using windows 7 Ultimate on boot system partition C, dual boot with linux mint. which mean i got four partition. one for linux mint. one for its swap space. one for windows 7. one for my data storage(movies,drivers,mp3,picture and etc).last few days i try to resize my C partition (120gb) to make it smaller to gain some unallocated spaces and resize the D partition because my D (almost 100gb) (ntfs/primary/data storage) almost full. i use easeus partition master v5.01.
After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)i try to use partition wizard home to resize it back to 300gb. and it works. but i cant make a partition. it will disappear just like that.i also try to use diskpart, command prompt diskpard, and paragon. but also not working. the C drive was shrink but theres no unallocated space and no D drive (the new create partition). i try logical partition, primary, ntfs and fat but also not working. even the unallocated space also gone. i use almost 4 3rd party partitioning software but still got no luck with it.example:i divide 300gb into 2 partition which exist the C partition 150Gb but the other one gone. i wish theres other way than format. i also done many time. doing check disk, partition table doctor, searching for bad sector. but no errors with my hdd.

But does the allocated space for system restore affect at all how much space is allocated for backup? If not, i will would like to turn back down the allocated space for the restore.

I've inherited my son's Asus eee. Great little machine for lugging around, but sloooow. I only need to have windows word and power point on it. With those two and avg, I only have 14 gb of 30 free.
I can't believe that this os and two programs should consume that much space. If so, what do people use these machines for?

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my 30 gb SSD. When I was done, there was about 14-15 gb left on the drive. After installing drivers, I had about 12 gb left. Then I used Windows Update and installed all the important updates. After all the updates, I had only 4-5 gb left. Is this supposed to happen? Why is it taking up so much space? Is there any way I can free up space on there?

I have completed my new build: i5-2500k, 8 GB RAM and a 64 GB SSD (Crucial M4).I want to install Win 7 Pro 64-bit on a partition on the SSD. I know the Win 7 64 specs say you need at least 20 GB of disk space to install. I figure I will reduce the page file to 1 GB and eliminate the hibernation file. If I do that, how much space will i need on the SSD partition?

I want to put an SSD in this computer for a boot drive. My plan was to install Windows and any important motherboard drivers on the SSD. What is the least amount of gigs I can get away with in an SSD for Windows 7 64 bit and mobo drivers. I was thinking either a 50 or 55 gig SSD. I think Windows 7 only uses 30 some gigs of memory and drivers should only use a couple gigs.

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

I recently partitioned my hard drive (using Paragon Partition editor) and it failed, after finally getting my MBR working again, I only had 800GB rather than 920GB. This was the amount I had tried to allocate to a different partition, yet it does should 920GB some places. This shows the problemI really need to get the rest back ( I make movies and need space)Gparted finds it as 920.04 GB's, so it is definitely Windows that will not detect it.UPDATE

I am planning on making a windows 7 image with macrium reflect free. Windows 7 is installed on a 290 GB partition. Now, only 22.3 GB of that space is being used, pretty much by windows 7 and other third-party programs. Will macrium reflect back up that 22.3 GB or back up all 290 GB which is mostly free space? ( I know that the question seems a little weird, but I want to make sure)

I am wondering why my Harddisk space on windows 7 keeps decreasing. From 30 Gb of free space to 13Gb. As i had 2 partition. All my downloads are in my second partition while i only store applications like games in the first. However i did not download anything but my free space in the first partition kept decreasing. I tried turning off system restore but only about 1Gb was restored. Is this some system settings with windows 7?

I have noticed that my SSD has been filling up quite fast lately. So I went to remove some programs thinking that was the issue, with no luck. *snap* So I did a disk cleaner run, removed 32gbs of info of it. Went to install ''Assassins Creed 3'' (Got the game off ''Gamerfanshop'') installed it my HDD. All was good, checked my SSD now its back down to 12gbs (82gbs total). Went to see what the issue was, it says that there is 41GBS of info on my Windows user. I open it to see where all the information was and I only find 12gbs in it...

My girlfriend came to me saying she was trying to do something on her windows 7 computer and it said she had no space to complete or something. I have never owned a windows computer so I am a little rusty on the subject. Looking at her computer she has 58 GB on her C drive and a little under 400 GB on her D drive. She had ~175 GB free on her D drive and almost none on her C drive. Is there any way to take space from the D drive and add it to the C drive? Also, I think its odd that her C:/users folder is only 25 GB. My assumption is most everything she installs and adds to her computer will go into the users folder. If she has a 500 GB HDD, why would 60%+ of the HDD be in use? is windows 7 just that big?

I installed windows 7 on a 60gb OCZ SSD for a faster boot, and it's been wonderful until I realized that I only had 5gb of space left on it, I have a 1tb hard drive and a 500gb one and i'd like to set the default of everything to install on either one of those, is there a way to do that? By this i mean libraries, temp files, download defaults, install defaults, stuff like that.'ve already changed a few libraries and my temp, but stuff still manages to find a way on the SSD, like I just purchased Photoshop CS6 and I told it to install onto the 500gb hard drive but then i realized i had less space on my C:// drive and then when I looked around I realized it dumped a bunch of crap.
