View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I have formatted my Usb External Harddisk with exFAT, as I heard of the benefits of it over FAT32. Its an IMATION Drive with 320gb storage. Device Properties: TOSHIBA MK3252GSX USB Device, The problem is that it takes forever to copy files from the drive as compared to when the format was FAT32. Currently, Im trying to backup all my files on my PC and I've been trying to copy out 60gb of Data that I started 10+ hours ago. The wierd thing is the progress bar moves a fraction and then stops for about 5mins before continuing the another fraction.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed strange things about my HDD. (I have Windows 7 installed on my SDD, and not on the HDD). Says a weird sound and then sounds like it's charging up somehow, during this Windows lags. It usually happens when I Shutdown my machine. After the process, Windows will shut down immediately. Says "Not Responding" sometimes. And it says it at very silly places, like changing the wallpaper. During this, I can see the HDD activity constant lights on. Maybe I should get a new one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am wondering why my Harddisk space on windows 7 keeps decreasing. From 30 Gb of free space to 13Gb. As i had 2 partition. All my downloads are in my second partition while i only store applications like games in the first. However i did not download anything but my free space in the first partition kept decreasing. I tried turning off system restore but only about 1Gb was restored. Is this some system settings with windows 7?

I am going to build my own PC soon, but I'm going to keep my current hard drive and use it for my new PC. I have a 500GB external HD as backup, my question is could I install a copy of Windows 7, and use that to boot from with no hard drive in PCI want 2 PCs in my house one to use for stricly backup purposes. My plan is to put a wireless card in my old PC - share a folder - and constantly put files, videossongs, etc... into that folder so it gets backed up on the external HDMy next question is, if I am able to boot with the external HD, can I use the external HD on different PCs? Not to boot Windows - but just to recover files?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had Win 7 Home 64bit installed, but I've been having loads of issues with it, crashes, dvd drive not working properly, and a reallllllly long blank screen after "Starting Windows" Screen (around 2-3 minutes)After trying many, many different methods of fixing these issues, none of which did a darn thing.I decided that I just needed to reload windows.SO I reloaded windows from within the OS itself, (Not a Clean install) but that didn't fix my long boot problem. So I tried a clean install - I formatted the partition I wanted windows on (The same one it was on) and started the install only to get a screen that said I didn't have the proper driver for my DVD drive installed, WELL, it's an LG GH22LP20, and LG doesn't just give out drivers, NO they bundle them with Firmware so when I insert the DVD that came with the DVD Drive, it can't locate a driver for it! I looked online, I can't find anything except older Firmware/driver Software. So now, my only choice is to use my External USB Hard Drive, so I created an ISO of my Win 7 Install Disk using IMGBURN onto my exHDD, BUT Now I get an error saying NTLDR is missing.

Try to restore it but if you can't log into your OS through normal way or "last good configuration" doesn't work then what you might try Hitting/Pressing F8 & select Safe Mode to see if you can restore but still if issue not resolve then last resort re-install OS but if you don't have any of the above mentioned device then how to get OS installed again or let say you do have Recovery CD/DVD,external HDD but what if your ODD (DVD drive/Optical Disk Drive) not working & you don't have a USB on your old com then how to get this right without losing your Valuable data????Note: This will work if you have the Winodws7 setup folder copied onto your HDD. As i do, so, for me an external device is never required to do the re-installation of Windows 7 again. Also this has been tested & tried only on Windows 7 & not on any other version of Windows OS.
Here's How:Step 1:Restart your com & keep hitting/pressing F8 to go to Advanced Boot Options screen. Now select click Safe Mode. Attachment 102982Step 2: log in now in your windows7 as an Admin but in Safe Mode ie minimum & essentials drivers will be installed. Go to ComputerC:Windows7setup & do a right click on Set Up file & Run As Administrator: Attachment 1032372. You get the Windows 7 installation window with edition name & its version: Attachment 1029953. Then next window is for "Install Windows" you can select the type of installation you want to do: Attachment 1029964. I selected "custom (advanced)" option & then you get "setup window" to enter your valid & authenticated "product key" to register your Windows version OS: Attachment 102998

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo far we've seen tutorials for installing Windows 7 in quite a few different ways. All of them require boot media like a DVD, USB key or a Network.
With This You Will Be Able To Install Windows 7 as soon as you download the ISO and Extracting It.
It can be used for both a Fresh Install or Updating to a new build.
When To Use This Method:
You Dont Want To Waste Another DVD.
You Dont Have a USB Hardisk.
You Dont Have a USB Pendrive.
You Dont Know How to Boot Windows 7 using the PXE Network Option.
I changed out the broken screen on the above laptop and now I get a harddisk security message requiring a password. The unit booted up fine before the screen changed. other than the acer $100 service fee? P.S no password was ever set, yet now one is required.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty getting my computer to install Windows 7 from an external hd. take a look through the steps I followed below, I believe I may have missed something very basic (I'm not a power user).
1.I put an iso image of windows 7, 32bit onto my computer
2.downloaded/installed 'easeUSpartition master'; used it to shink the partition w/with data on external hd, created a new partition of the free space remaining on the hd; set new partition as 'active'.
3.used magic iso to extract files from the iso image of windows 7 32 bit installer onto the active partition that was created from the free space on the external hd.
4.reset computer, on startup went into bios, set USB flash drive to #1 position of boot order, set setting to 'enable boot from external drive', saved and exited.
5.on subsequent restarts, the computer restarts as it normally does, I do not see any messages during startup (e.g. 'push any key to boot from external drive').

View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got a new Asus Zenbook UX31E and am having a certain problem where if I plug my external drive (Samsung S2 1TB, USB 3.0, 2.5") into the 3.0 port windows tries to install a driver for the new device but fails. Now the drive powers on when connected but wont load up as an accessible drive and is not found is disc management.I've tried the HDD successfully in another laptop with USB 3.0 and it works fine on my Zenbook's USB 2.0 port so I'm guessing there's no problem with the HDD itself. Also I have tried a small flash drive in the Zenbook's 3.0 port which worked fine.I have tried updating the USB 3.0 driver to the latest version via Asus' driver database but have got the same result.I would of thought with such a prestigious laptop someone else would of run across this problem but all my googling has turned up ziltch.
