View 3 RepliesI would like to connect my 2.5" external USB hard drive permanently to store my files. However, it seems like my USB hard disk doesn't show up every time I reboot my windows 7. I will need to unplug the usb and then replug it back it for it to be detected, which is a bit of a hassle.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy external hard disk up until a few weeks ago had been working perfectly. The next time I used it - windows 7 will not recognise it. I have tried different USB ports and computers. But it doesn't seem to work. It doesn't show up in device manager or disk manager. Its like nothing is plugged in. I tried switching hard disk cases and power supplies. But still nothing. The hard disk seems to try and run every so often, the light flashed red and it makes whirring noises as if it was connecting to the computer.
I dont know what else to do ? And it has almos 1500 GB of data.
I don't know what is my problem because is not the first time that usb external hard drive is working fine until get damage and said " it need to be formatted " and lost all the INFO because I have to format again the disk to be usefull. Also it is not the same hard disk.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have brand a new Gateway NV50A with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I tried to partition the C Drive with 450GB to make another partition using Spotmau 2009. It displayed a window --that the system needs to restart for partioning. So I clicked on yes. After that it tried to restart and just stops on a blank Spotmau screen doing nothing(Spotmau Powersuite 2009 --Is a computer software used for partitioning and cloning). I tried to restart and bypass this window and start windows. But it doesn't work. I don't want to lose any data. I don't have a Windows 7 Installation CD.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
just completed a first-time new Windows 7 PC build. Successful installation of Windows 7 Pro on WD 600GB 10000 system drive. Went back and installed 4 additional HDD. (2) WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM and (2) WD Caviar 7200 500GB HDD from XP system that were used for storage.
BIOS sees all HDDs, but are not viewable in Disk Management.
System Specs:
Antec Nine Hundred
ASUS P6X58D-E MOBO
[Code].....
However, only three are visible in Disk Management. Missing (1) WD 500GB (previously used on WinXP system) and (1) new WD 1T.
Lately I had problems playing video-files (hd content, mkv container) on my WD HD TV. Turned out that the files were corrupted when after copying to the usb disk. First I was afraid my Intel X25-m was the culprit, but windiff proved that the error occurred after copying, and there was a difference between the file on my SSD and the copy on the usb disk.
After trying all the USB ports on my laptop (MSI pr200, T7700, 4GB, Windows 7 HP 64), the CABLE proved to be the culprit. I use different cables, the one causing problems was an old motorola razr....After trying the cable that came with the 500GB Verbatim USB disk the problem is gone, and windiff says the files are equal.Just to let you searchers know (fingers crossed!): issue seems to be resolved by using a good cable.
I have a 500 GB SimpleTech hard drive (outboard) that I recently discovered to be full. Upon exploring its contents, I discovered many backup files and have no idea how/why they were created. I deleted several of the older files to make room for files I wished to store, and then explored further. On the hard drive, I find one folder named HPLAPTOP01 and another named WindowsImageBackup, between them holding many GB worth of files with names: Backup Set yyyy-mm-dd xxxxxx. Is Win 7 creating these backups, or is the SimpleTech drive doing it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've bought a Toshiba STOR.E D10 Zwart 1,5TB so that I can use e-SATA to connect it to my laptop. I've got a HP Probook 6555b with Windows 7 64bits. When I use the USB connection (this hard disk has both USB an eSATA) all works fine, no problem at all. When I connect it with the eSATA cable I can find the external hard disc and brwose through the files that are on it. However when I try to move files from my laptop onto the hard disk (or the other way around) after about 10 seconds it slows down and stops half way copying. Next Windows Explorer is not responding.

View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I just reinstall fresh windows 7. After I install the OS, I just realize that my recycle bin is empty. Before I installed windows 7, some of my deleted files on my other hard disk is there. But now, I could not find it anymore. After that, I tried to select show hidden folder, files, and drives and unsellect hide protected operating system files on folder options. I try to browse to one of my hard disk, which has the deleted files on recycle bin before, then I found it the recycle bin icon there as well (For instance, the path of the drive is: N:$RECYCLE.BIN). I tried to look at the properties, and I found that the missing size of the deleted files was on there. The problem is I cannot access it. When I tried to open the recycle bin, it just empty. I need some help with this. How do I retrieve the files again to the OS recycle bin, not the hard disk recycle bin? Is it possible to access it again? I really need those files back.
