my windows does not show contents of my hard disk but linux mint do.i doubt if there is any presence of virus and i deleted all .ini files.(unwanted files).and it does not contain any softwares or any executable files. it contain only media,and pdf files.
View 4 RepliesMy external hard disk up until a few weeks ago had been working perfectly. The next time I used it - windows 7 will not recognise it. I have tried different USB ports and computers. But it doesn't seem to work. It doesn't show up in device manager or disk manager. Its like nothing is plugged in. I tried switching hard disk cases and power supplies. But still nothing. The hard disk seems to try and run every so often, the light flashed red and it makes whirring noises as if it was connecting to the computer.
I dont know what else to do ? And it has almos 1500 GB of data.
i have brand a new Gateway NV50A with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I tried to partition the C Drive with 450GB to make another partition using Spotmau 2009. It displayed a window --that the system needs to restart for partioning. So I clicked on yes. After that it tried to restart and just stops on a blank Spotmau screen doing nothing(Spotmau Powersuite 2009 --Is a computer software used for partitioning and cloning). I tried to restart and bypass this window and start windows. But it doesn't work. I don't want to lose any data. I don't have a Windows 7 Installation CD.

However, it seems like my USB hard disk doesn't show up every time I reboot my windows 7. I will need to unplug the usb and then replug it back it for it to be detected, which is a bit of a hassle.

Look like this figure: Then I verify the visual effects settings in Performance Options box (System Properties > Advanced system settings > tab Advanced > click Settings under Performance > tab Visual Effects):Note that I have the option "Show window contents while dragging" checked all the time by selecting "Adjust for best appearance" To let it show the contents, I have to do these:
1. Uncheck "Show window contents while dragging". Click Apply.

when I restart my computer, or shutdown and then start it again, the problem is still: it does not show the contents of dialog boxes or windows when I drag them although the option "Show window contents while dragging" is checked.
I have been having problems with my computer not showing the windows contents while dragging. About once every 2 weeks, I will turn on my computer and that function will be disabled. So what I would do is go to Computer Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings, and then check the "Show window contents while dragging checkbox.
Today however, in the last 2 hours, the function has just disabled itself 3 times already. Everytime, I go through the same process to turn it on and it just won't stick for more than an hour.

View 2 Replies View Relatedjust completed a first-time new Windows 7 PC build. Successful installation of Windows 7 Pro on WD 600GB 10000 system drive. Went back and installed 4 additional HDD. (2) WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM and (2) WD Caviar 7200 500GB HDD from XP system that were used for storage.
BIOS sees all HDDs, but are not viewable in Disk Management.
System Specs:
Antec Nine Hundred
ASUS P6X58D-E MOBO

However, only three are visible in Disk Management. Missing (1) WD 500GB (previously used on WinXP system) and (1) new WD 1T.
I have a PC with a SSD C:/ drive that I use for program files only. I also have several other hard drives used for music, photos, etc... If I click on properties for my C drive, I see that 66GB of the total 96GB is used. That seemed high for just program files so I expanded the view and looked at each one.
Windows - 22.3GB
Users - 6.87GB
Prog 86 - 2.39
Prog - 0
NVidia - 207MB
Miller - 63.5MB
So you can see that I can only see about 33GB of what is supposed to be 65.9GB used. How can I see what is eating up the rest of the space? I went into Ctl Panel and clicked on View Hidden Files but still only see about half of what the system says in on the disk.
I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 and would like to transfer all programs and files from my old computer to my new one, hopefully without having to reinstall it all.

I bought a laptop asus K55VM, and switch the optical drive for a SSD. Both drives are format and active since what a want is a clean install.
During the instillation both drives don't show up, i tried to load drivers from intel but nothing shows up. The Bios shows both drivers, i change from AHCI to IDE but no effect.
I just built a computer for the first time and for the boot drive i have a ssd. With that i have a hard drive. Now windows finds it in device manager but not in "computer". the Bios finds it too. i re installed the driver and restarted still nothing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen i plug my WD passport portable hard drive into my computer, the hd will start up (the little LED will eliminate) and windows will make the "usb connection" sound and down the bottom right of the screen i have the option to safely remove my passport 0740. So windows picks up my hd but it just wont show up in my computer, it works on my other computer just not this one. i have tried changing the drive letters and that doesnt seem to help. first thing is I want to format my previous operating system and all the data in my laptop and install windows 7 in it using the Upgrade disk.
second thing is I don't have my vista installation disk with, my laptop was pre-installed with vista so in future if I want to switch can I get back VISTA using system restore.
third is can i install windows 7 on a new hard disk using a windows 7 Upgrade disk?
After searching the entirety of the internet I have come here to try to resolve my problem. I have a Seagate barracuda 1.5tb 3.5" 7200rpm hard drive which i was previously using to run windows server 2008. I am now trying to use it as an external hard drive for my laptop, however the laptop does not seem to recognize it. I tried using two different cases, three different usb ports, and i confirmed that everything was properly plugged in and powered on. The hard drive does not appear in disk manager, my computer, or the BIOS.
