Computer freezes when installing games from disks. I've replaced my DVD-Drive and it doesn't fix the problem. I've also re-installed windows 7 64 bit and it still doesn't solve the issue

The problem I have is when I load the disks into the drive, it tells me nothing is there and to format the disks??I've tried to find a way round this, but keep getting sent to DOS Box. Is there anyway to get the game onto the Hard Drive and run the game without DOS Box??
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy rather new Acer Predator G has been acting up lately. I tried a restore point but this doesn't seem to help. As a last resort I was going to format the disk and re-install 7, however Acer never sent me recovery disks and I don't have 7 disks (Came pre-loaded). So my question is, if I can find someone with windows 7 disks can I use them + The CD key that's on the label of my desktop? Or do I need specific ones? Acer will send me recovery disks for 20$ but If I can pull this off for cheaper, I'd like to.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 year old Gateway laptop (NV5929u) i5 430M w/ 4GB. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. The computer crashed with a blue screen a few months ago, and I could not locate the recovery disks, so I ordered a set from Gateway (1 System disk, 2 Recovery disks, 1 Language disk). My attempts at recovery were unsuccessful and I got the msg: failure disk 0 partition 3. I replaced the HD with a brand new one yesterday. My attempts at recovery went a bit further, to the point that the computer loads the information on the various disks, but when it tries to restart.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had been using the Windows 7 64 bit Release candidate version for some time now. I have finally a bought copy of Windows 7 professional 64 bit and I installed it last night.
Here is my problem:
I am finding that on games such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age during the conversation cut scenes, the game freezes and I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL in order for the game to 'refresh' itself and start working again. However this seems to be a recurring problem as it will freeze its self again after so many miniutes / hours.
Another problem I have been getting is during the game, objects may suddenly turn purple or green etc. I have to reload the game in order for this to fix itself.
I have been thinking it must be the GFX (nvidia) drivers. However I have just opened task manager to view my performance and I discovered this:
I have 8GB of RAM and the system is using 81% of it! All I am doing is seraching the web, there are no games open or any programms that could take up that much RAM.
Could this be the reason as to why my games go funny in cutscenes? This problem has only started happaning when I installed a new copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit last night.
Could any please shed some light onto why the system is using so much RAM? And as to wheather this is the problem with my games freezing too?
Since I got my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit) about one year ago, there was something strange with some of my games. Everytime I try to run them the first time once my laptop booted up, nothing happens, so I always have to look into the task manager, kill the process (the CPU load is always 00, the RAM stucks somewhere around 2000 K), and re-run the game, then it works.In that time I got no problem with that (though it was a bit annoying), but recently, some of my old games dont run even after more trials. The process is freezing everytime, and I dont understand why. Now Id like to solve that problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a MSI mobo before but had a broken ram slot so I sent it back, but was using it fine for a week, everything worked perfect accept for the ram. but I ended up sending it back for the ASRock, put everything back together and the windows 7 64 bit that I had installed just fine a week before wont install, I end up having to take out two of the ram sticks to install it.
So it gets installed and then I start adding programs, but it will only let me add certain ones.
the programs I have installed so far are:
Chrome,
vlc player,
winRAR
programs that I haven't been able to install,
AVG
Avast
Pidgin
Steam launcher
Microsoft Office
It gives me an NSIS error every time, but since it is happening with almost everything I try to use I think its not the files I'm trying to install.
Also every once in a while it will say that explorer has crashed and will close all of the windows I have open, but I am still able to use the computer after a few seconds.
Also every once in a while, for no reason the computer screen will go a grey color with faint horizontal lines and the speakers will start buzzing if there was sound coming out of them. If left alone in this state the computer eventually reboots.

So I just got this Xbox 360 controller for gaming and downloaded the hardware at the Microsoft Hardware web site, but when I go to activate it in the "game controllers" option in the control panel, the icon doesn't show. So I went on the internet trying to find some way to get around this whole thing. I found a post on this web site that was very useful and it took me to device manager where I followed the step by step instructions to install the driver, but when I tried to install the driver on my PC it would say: "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it." Then it says: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
View 1 Replies View RelatedI found a relatively old post about this issue but the post in question degenerated into other topics so I am starting my own.I made the supreme Mistake of Installing a game called "GT Legends" or "GTL".The game uses a lousy protection scheme called "Starforce" that allows you to run the game from the CD ROM.
The drivers for this program are not signed, but by the time you realize that is a bit too late.The net effect is that upon Rebooting Windows Pro 64Bit you get a message to "Reboot choosing a disk with an OS" (I am paraphrasing here, basically it's saying I am booting off a drive without the OS in it.
After numerous searches I found that pressing F8 and getting to the boot choice menu you have to choose "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" and the machine will finally boot.I did more research and it appears that you have to uninstall these starforce drivers to roll back thing and Starforce provides a coupe of programs to help with that.Here is the problem:
1) When I press F8 instead of the boor choices I get a Asus screen telling me what keys to press to get where I want to go. One of the choices is F8 but it takes an enormous amount of time to have the screen appear and a most times it just reboots and shopws the same inane message that it can't boot.
2) The other option I found on my own was to press Ctrl M and choose the boot drive manually in the boot loader screen. That sometimes reboots windows properly (it seems that to get to the boot choices is a bit of a chore on my machine).
3) I followed the instructions posted in various forums to try and delete the Starforce drivers, but they are not where the posts all say they are.
4) I downloaded and installed the Starforce utilities to respectively (a) find and update and (b) Uninstall the starforce drivers. Both tell me I have no Starforce drivers installed. (which is what I found out by looking for them as well)
5) Yet, the drivers must be someplace because a) I did not uninstall them, and b) my machine was booting fine before this mess and what I am seeing is clearly the presence of an unsigned driver(s).
6) I tried performing a System Restore, but before I did I checked what files would have been affected. The starforce drivers are not there. In fact, no drivers are there at all except a couple that I know exactly what they do.
The computer is about a week old so I don't have a lot of experience with my MoBo yet. Please forgive me if I missed something obvious (specs in sig),I am wondering:
1) Does anyone have any experience with this?2) Can I ask Windows to find any unsigned drivers on my machine?3) Any other ideas? I can't mess around with the startup each time. I need to fix this.
BTW, no one is taking responsibility for this mess, not the game devs not the starforce folks.
I downloaded Black Prophecy beta client, installed it. During the install, It was installing microsoft .net framework and direct x stuff. I'm thinking that the framework did something to my permissions because I can't even launch the game.Whenever I try to launch the game it shows the "windows can't acess this file blah blah blah" crap. Now the reason why I think the framework screwed up my permissions is, now whenever I start up firefox, an error message pops and and says "microsoft and acess this file blahblabhl" Also I can't even uninstall the game, I have to manually drag to to the recycle bin. How do I fix this

I recently had a problem with my system overheating, the CPU reaching max temperatures (65C), but I fixed that by vaccuuming the insides of the computer, particularly the fans. No game gives an error message except Guild Wars 2, which only mentions an "unrecoverable driver error". I can't give you the exact error message as of this moment because I have to play for a while before it happens'll update this thread as soon as I get the error message again.I should also note that sometimes the system recovers, resulting in a black screen for a few seconds and then the game starts up again. This at least doesn't mean that the system is tired, because this happened once in Guild Wars 2 (and recovered) and then I kept playing for many hours more.

So I lost all my programs, its fine for me though, I can reinstall all of them but it seems now my graphic card is not detected as Nvidia but some kind of windows basic graphic card driver ? now I can't play FIFA12 but others just work out fine. I can't restore to factory state because apparently its gone (i dont know why, maybe accidentally deleted it).

First it was every now & then but soon my computer was freezing up ( not responding ) and it was impossible to even complete a document. This happens in all applications. I noticed with each new window update the worse my computer got. Still under warranty I spent hours on the phone with DELL twice, finally I did a fresh re-install of windows 7 professional. After the fresh install everything was fine. UNTIL I downloaded the windows updates, it started to 'not respond' again. I uninstalled the updates. The not responding issue is gone but I am concerned about windows security updates. Do I need them? I have contacted windows about this issue many times over the past several months with no response.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI began seeing a blue screen about 5 months ago when I first got my computer, and after posting here with one BSOD report, I was informed of the fact that Avast Virus scanning software could be the culprit. After uninstalling the software, I no longer received the problem. 5 months later, the issue has come back. I've recently installed Fraps and Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 on my machine. I saw the BSOD appear once again 2 days ago and it seems to appear while streaming video and installing a game. I also see my machine hard-lock while streaming video from time to time, but I think the BSOD does not officially trigger, so hard-locking is the result.

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.
When I install a game in Windows 7 and Windows recognizes it it dumps the game's shortcut in the Game folder of the Start Menu. That wouldn't be a problem except Windows 7 prevents the game from creating the shortcuts it would have created had the operating system not been Windows 7- things like the game's Read Me, Uninstaller & Configuration options.

View 1 Replies View RelatedComputer is currently suffering from persistent freezing and bluescreens. It seems to happen almost randomly, and usually very soon after startup and loading of Windows. System restore has not helped.'fraid that's all the info I can give right now. Any recommendations? If anyone wants me to run hijackthis or dxdiag and post results I'd be more than happy to (assuming I can get that far before it freezes!). Safe mode does work, and the problem does not occur while in safe mode.

I had installed Ubuntu but decided to uninstall so I formatted the partition and now learned that the mbr must be fixed after doing that. I can't boot so Idk what to do. View 2 Replies View RelatedI by mistake unticked the option to hide disks with no media on and now even if the tick is put on all the usb ports and all the dvd reading writing devices are listed and I would like to hide em only if there is no media on them. So please if anyone knows how to fix this tell me. I don't want alternate methods like arraign them in a way that you cant see them in the right panel but they are still there or the method that makes those units inaccessible by the disk and partition manager I want to fix this to have it as it was before not an alternate method.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was given a Pavilion DV9000z by my sister who had purchased a replacement for herself. She wiped the two installed hard drives and clean installed windows 7. It appears that there is a 100MB systemm reserved partiion on one disk (total size 320GB, the rest of which was unpartitioned when I got it), and the operating system was loaded on the second disk (120 GB).I had a dead Vista laptop which had a 100GB SATA drive. I wanted to reformat it to have as a sppare. If I pull either one of the original drives out it won't boot. If I take out the 320 GB drive (with the 100MB partition) the laptop either goes black screen (if I move the 120 GB drive into the primary bay) or tries to boot Vista (if I put the scavanged hard drive in the primary bay), or tells me operating system files are lost (if I pull the 120 GB drive and replace it with the scavanged drive).So it appears to me that the 100MB partition on the 320 GB drive is waht the system is booting from, but that it won't load Windows 7 unless the second drive is also there.Is there any way to move the system reserved partition to the 120 GB drive? Or the operating system files to the 320 GB drive? It scares me that if either drive dies, the system won't boot.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is for a friends computer, It has worked before because when i got the computer i put win 7 on then something ****ed out so i then put xp pro on and since then it doesnt want to know about any os disks, other bootable disks work just not os disks. I have a problem which i have had for a while now, every time i try to install a new os it wont boot the disk so that i can install it, I have been into the bios changed the boot priority to cd-rom first, i have changed the cables around, i have unplugged everything except the dvd drive, i have pulled the whole computer apart and put it back together piece by piece, i have also crawled the internet for solutions but no seems to give any answer that works, i have put a different dvd drive in aswell and that made no difference either.
