I had been using the Windows 7 64 bit Release candidate version for some time now. I have finally a bought copy of Windows 7 professional 64 bit and I installed it last night.
Here is my problem:
I am finding that on games such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age during the conversation cut scenes, the game freezes and I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL in order for the game to 'refresh' itself and start working again. However this seems to be a recurring problem as it will freeze its self again after so many miniutes / hours.
Another problem I have been getting is during the game, objects may suddenly turn purple or green etc. I have to reload the game in order for this to fix itself.
I have been thinking it must be the GFX (nvidia) drivers. However I have just opened task manager to view my performance and I discovered this:
I have 8GB of RAM and the system is using 81% of it! All I am doing is seraching the web, there are no games open or any programms that could take up that much RAM.
Could this be the reason as to why my games go funny in cutscenes? This problem has only started happaning when I installed a new copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit last night.
Could any please shed some light onto why the system is using so much RAM? And as to wheather this is the problem with my games freezing too?
Since I got my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit) about one year ago, there was something strange with some of my games. Everytime I try to run them the first time once my laptop booted up, nothing happens, so I always have to look into the task manager, kill the process (the CPU load is always 00, the RAM stucks somewhere around 2000 K), and re-run the game, then it works. In that time I got no problem with that (though it was a bit annoying), but recently, some of my old games dont run even after more trials. The process is freezing everytime, and I dont understand why. Now Id like to solve that problem.
Computer freezes when installing games from disks. I've replaced my DVD-Drive and it doesn't fix the problem. I've also re-installed windows 7 64 bit and it still doesn't solve the issue
My specifications:Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1AMD Phenom II X4 955 -- 55-60C when gaming4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHzMSI 870A-G54 (MS-7599) (CPU1)767MB GeForce GTX 460 (MSI) -- 40-72C when gaming (depends on game)466GB Seagate ST3500418AS ATA Device (SATA)This freeze occurs in any game I play. I recently had a problem with my system overheating, the CPU reaching max temperatures (65C), but I fixed that by vaccuuming the insides of the computer, particularly the fans. No game gives an error message except Guild Wars 2, which only mentions an "unrecoverable driver error". I can't give you the exact error message as of this moment because I have to play for a while before it happens'll update this thread as soon as I get the error message again.I should also note that sometimes the system recovers, resulting in a black screen for a few seconds and then the game starts up again. This at least doesn't mean that the system is tired, because this happened once in Guild Wars 2 (and recovered) and then I kept playing for many hours more.
When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.
When I install a game in Windows 7 and Windows recognizes it it dumps the game's shortcut in the Game folder of the Start Menu. That wouldn't be a problem except Windows 7 prevents the game from creating the shortcuts it would have created had the operating system not been Windows 7- things like the game's Read Me, Uninstaller & Configuration options.
Computer is currently suffering from persistent freezing and bluescreens. It seems to happen almost randomly, and usually very soon after startup and loading of Windows. System restore has not helped.'fraid that's all the info I can give right now. Any recommendations? If anyone wants me to run hijackthis or dxdiag and post results I'd be more than happy to (assuming I can get that far before it freezes!). Safe mode does work, and the problem does not occur while in safe mode.
I remember playing this game very very long ago. In the game, I was playing a ninja, and looking at the ninja from bird's eye view. There was many chapters in game, and if I remember right, at each end of the chapter, I had to kill a boss, more powerful monster. There was an old man with a beard, and he was giving me lessons, truths about some ninja stuff, life, etc... After finishing the game once, a better mode would be unlocked. We were a more powerful ninja, and able to kill monsters more easily. And it didn't have magnificent graphics, it was like a cartoon.
I am running on the 64-bit version of Windows .My computer is an HP s5680t with an i5 chip @ 3.2GHz and 6 GB of RAM.Every time I use a browser (I typically use IE, but have tried Firefox and Chrome with similar results), the computer will ultimately freeze.First, I won't be able to move the bar or click on anything and then, moments later, the cursor will freeze permanently, and if the machine doesn't bomb right there, my only way out is a hard reset.
At first, I was told that the version of IE was the problem, so I downgraded to IE8. Still happens. Then, I was told that it was Adobe Flash that was causing the problem, so I disabled it (much to my dismay, since there's a lot you can't do without it), and it still happened.I'm aggravated that I got the 64-bit version, because I'm certain it's the problem, but I don't know what to do about it at this point.
For a week now, every time i play a game, online or not, the game crashes best case scenario, i just get a game has stopped responding message other time it's just the BSOD Is Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64 - the original installed OS on the system? its Windows 7 home premium - an OEM or full retail version? full retail - What is the age of system (hardware)? bouhgt it in september 2011 - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) i tried the dvd updatibng windows program yesterday, didn't do any good, but i've never formated it
I am trying to run Prince Of Persia 1, a DOS game but it wont run, the error, "This system does not support fullscreen mode" What can I do to run this?
I recently got Test Drive Unlimited 2 on my Dell XPS 17 and its ridiculous how I can only manage to get 15 FPS in the game. The game lags so much even if I change the graphics to the lowest settings. I checked if my laptop could run this game on Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements and i passed the recommend settings aswelll but I can't seem to be getting more than 15 FPS. [code]
As we all know, game compatibility frequently changed from build to build - some games that worked in older builds stopped working, and some games that did not work in older builds work in newer builds. Some of the latter can be attributed to patches put out but the game companies, and some can be attributed to the inclusion in Windows 7 missing components necessary to fulfill the total gaming experience of certain games.
That being said, there are now 2 lists to work with - the other list has been changed to a Pre-release list (and un-stickied), and this is now the official repository of games that work with the RTM. Read more at the forum...
I'm have played Pure on Xp and everything was running fine, till i got Windows 7 Ultimate. I downloaded Pure and when I start to race it freezes and don't respond.
Using a site called canyourunit I tested whether or not my laptop would be able to run a game, it said that I couldn't but the only requirement I didn't meet was my graphics card. So I'm wondering whether it would still run, but just poorer graphics? heres the details

I've stumbled upon a bit of a strange problem with my mouse. When I run a game of some sort my mouse starts to lag after a while, there is no lag in the rendering of the graphics just the movement of my mouse or mouse pointer. This can also occur randomly while just operating in windows without running any game 3D or non-3D, but if I unplug my USB mouse and plug it back in it starts working like normal. I have updated/re-installed the drivers for the mouse, also tried running without the special drivers for my mouse installed thus getting another aero related problem. But it works best with the drivers for the Razer Lachesis installed but as I mentioned before it the pointer starts lagging and if I just unplug and plug it back in it starts working so question is does anyone know what could cause this?
I had a Logitech controller for the longest time but I guess the 1000 times I dropped it caught up with it because its broken. I want one that's slightly like a PlayStation controller because I'm used to that. So that's why I thought of just of getting a Logitech dual pad controller again but a newer version.
I have installed an older version of Solitare Master 2. It is fully installed, but will not open. Keeps requesting the disk be inserted. I previously had it installed, successfully, on Windows XP?
I have a new Win 7 set-up, and while I'm currently using my older (yet still great) CRT monitor, I just bought a nice LCD monitor, so I'll have two.I game often, but it'd be great if I could have the game up on one full screen (not sure if it's possible to do this or it must be played in a window) and an application on the other.I understand that I would have to alt-tab to transfer between the two, which is fine, but what I think would be most useful would be to, say, have the keyboard commands for the game (from a text file, .pdf, picture, etc.) on the second monitor, while I play the game on the first. Other good examples would be to have a map of the game (again, a picture found online, not a map from the game itself, to be clear) or spreadsheet of stats up on the second screen that I could reference during play.I ask because my understanding is that there are three modes for using dual monitors in Windows 7. One allows you to run both as one big desktop. The other mirrors the screen, so you have the exact same desktop duplicated. The final has one off and the other on.
This makes it sound as if the only option is to have the game run in a window on one screen and then open the application, picture, whatever sized to the other. What I was hoping for was to have the game fill the entirety of one monitor and have the desktop confined to just the other, and alt-tab between the two.
I recently bought a game called Tales of Monkey Island. It can be played in PC and Mac. I put the dvd game in but it won't even play the cd as it keep popping out saying please insert a disk which i already have. I tested it out on my friends Mac and it seems perfectly fine
I am trying to play a game called Tribes: Ascend, which I downloaded from Steam. Unfortunately, it will not run. Earlier today, I deleted some files, including .dll files, to make space for the game (the files seemed useless). I probably shouldn't have done this. First, it popped up with an error that days I was missing a .dll file that was required to play the game, which I think I have fixed. Now, an error pops up saying: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application." How can I fix this problem?
I am having huge problems with my pc. I very rarely use is as my wife and kids tend to always be on it but, when I've come to try and use it, it freezes all the time for about 5 minutes, then works for a few more minutes before freezing again with the message (not responding) at the top. My wife tells me it's been like this for months and months. I've tried everything on the Norton 360 package that I have but nothing at all seems to speed it up. I've spoken to the tech guys who supply my broadband and after running several tests they insist it's not a broadband problem. I don't know what to do next to try to get rid of this problem.
recently my computer has been acting a bit odd. When I turn it on it starts up like normal, I input my password and it starts loading everything. But once everything is loaded at the start up the taskbar freezes and so does the rest of the desktop. I can move my mouse but it does nothing and I'm not able to open the taskmanager at all with ctrl+alt+del. The computer runs fine in safe mode. I've already gone through and cleaned up my system, fixed any registry problems, and defragged my hdd. I've scanned for any malware and came up with nothing. I've disabled all non-necessary programs in msconfig for startup. I've been able to do a system restore to about a week ago, and that would fix the problem for a bit, but it would happen again if the computer went into sleep mode.
I have A network with two computers. Both have Windows 7,also have the same problem.I can have a page open, and it will close, showing Desktop. I move the mouse and it opens back up. [code]
I have an old Toshiba Satellite L355-S7905 that was handed down to me back in 2009It gave me some problems beforehand (needed a new OS twice since I got it) but over the past year it's been fine. Suddenly, out of the blue, the OS crashed on me a few days ago.The crash was pretty bad and the OS wouldn't boot anymore. So, I did what any logical person would do; I reformatted my HDD (to ensure no viruses or spyware remained) and attempted to reinstall Win7 Ultimate. After the install, I manually updated all my drivers, and went underway resituating my programs. All was well with the universe, and then it happened. My system froze. One reboot later and it started freezing any time I tried to launch Firefox. Shortly after that, it started freezing whenever I tried launching any program at all. It even froze when I launched the Command Prompt. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing seems to solve the problem of the CPU spiking then the system locking up. I've tried virus scans, registry cleaner, disk defragenation, and disk clean up
I installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version very recently and it seems to be freezing between 1 min - 1 hr after I start up and there is no error before and when I check to see if it posted an error it didnt.
I have been using Win 7 Ultimate 64bit for about 6 months. About 2 months ago this behaviour started and I was unable to associate it with any changes I had made to the machine.Windows boot proceeds normally until the jingle and appearance of the logging on screen. At this point the computer becomes unresponsive to keyboard or mouse for a random time varying between 2-3 seconds and indefinitely. In the case of indefinitely I have to shut down by the power switch 3 second press and try again. My guess is that something I installed or something that installed itself is trying to call home at this time and prevents all other actions while it waits for a reply. Sometimes I have found that I can log in immediately after removing the network cable. I run Norton Internet Security which is up to date and reports nothing. If I try using the windows repair facility from the Win 7 disk to detect boot problems it reports that the boot that I had to abort was in fact successful. I guess it doesn't count anything after the log in screen.
The only time I ever got infected in the last 10 years was by a driveby trojan and I had to solve that by a drive image restore. That was a previous machine though.
I could solve this problem by restoring one of several drive images that I have but they are quite old and would have to reinstall quite a bit of software agin so I would rather not.All I am looking for is an opinion as to whether I have a windows problem or a malware problem. I never open attachments so a driveby hit is the only likely source of any malware.
