Error 80073712 & Numerous Repeats Of Updates
Aug 2, 2012
I have windows 7 pro with SP1.I'm having a problem with three updates.
KB2633171
KB2676562
KB2679255
I have installed them numerous times.I check the update history and it says they were successful. (If that's the case why are you wanting to install again? ) Now when I try to "check for updates" I get the error 80073712.I have tried Microsoft fixit numerous times. I have tried the hotfix KB947821(also numerous times) to no avail.

As I open windows update, and check for updates, after a while it gives me an error:
"Windows could not search for new updates. An error occured while checking for updates for your computer. Error(s) found: Code 80073712."
I have also tried Windows Readiness Tool, it doesn't fix my computer, I still can't check for updates successfully.

I am continually having BSOD on my old p4 machine. I have installed BlueScreenView and SIW, and have come up with quite a few error codes and an above average cpu temp (I think).

I have been trying to install SP1 since Apr 2011. I keep getting the error 80073712. I have been able to install all of the other updates. I have downloaded and run system readiness tool. I have run troubleshooting/fix problems with windows update I have run sfc/scannow. I have run MS Fixit as well.
I seem to have a corrupt manifest file. My laptop came windows 7 loaded so I only have recovery disks and a recovery partition. I don't want to have to do a complete recovery and have to install all my software again.
Here is the message in the checksur file.

Whenever I have tried to do the update to instal Service Pack 1 the process has always failed, giving me "error 80073712". I have tried doing some of the possible solutions found throughout the internet, including disabling anti-virus software, downloading SP1 manually and installing it on my own, attempting to install in safe mode, doing check disk, but nothing seems to work. What can I do?

I ran the microsoft fix it soultions for windows update normal then aggressive. Now I get this error while checking for updates. I tried to run sfc /scannow and then sfc /verifyonly but get the following error: windows resource protection could not perform the required operation. I also tried to install the latest service pack got the following error: error_sxs_componet_store_corrupt(0x80073712). When I look at programs->installed updates nothing listed, also when I look at programs->turn on/off windows features nothing listed.

I am having trouble installing sp1 despite other windows updates having been flawless so far. I tried following instructions found at the Windows site but the System Update Readiness Tool didn't find any errors and repair installation aborts. Sorry to bother you with another "sp1 fail" thread but I have exhausted my search options for solution here and in other sites, which makes this request for help my last resort.

I got notification 1/9 that 14 updates are available for Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit. All installed but 1. Update KB2773072 generates error code 80073712. I have re-tired multiple times each after a system reboot. The update is RECOMMENDED not critical. I can probably go without it. It appears it is related to gaming applications. I don't game. getting the update installed?

Win 7 desktop, that is clear for a person that knows very little about Win 7 and can not make frequent visits to the PC. I am laid up in bed with a fractured ankle, post surgery where a plate and screws were installed.I have this laptop, crutches, and wheel chair.Last night, my wife shut down the PCShe noticed it was installing an update. I started the PC this morning and all was normal until the screen flashed "Loading Microsoft Operating System" or something to that effectImmediately after that flashed (for less than a second), the system powers off.A few seconds later, the power comes back on, the fans start, the BIOS screen appears, all like normal, and then shut down again. This will continue forever it appears, given I watched it repeat 4 times.

I'm not sure where online to go (what forum) to ask this question, so I will just start here.I build and sell PC's to small businesses. Well configured systems. No junk. I use as much free software as possible. Liscenses permitting. Quality software.I want to make a master system(s), just one master if possible. Windows 7 with all the apps, ready to go. I want to migrate this master(s) to other PC's.Supplying new license keys when needed.Worst case scneario, dis-similar hardware.

about two months ago, my gtx275 video card displayed green artifacts during a game and hard froze my system. i restarted the pc, continued my game, then about 5 minutes later it happened again, only this time it was impossible to boot after restart. when turning on the pc, all fans and leds were working as usual, including the one on the video card, but there was no display on my monitor and the computer wouldn't boot at all (no short beep, no nothing, just a constant black screen). i had another video card around, an 8400 gs, so i tried replacing the gtx275 with that. the system worked fine with the second card, but not with the first one. naturally, i thought the gtx was broken, so took it to the service (warranty), to be repaired. while gtx was being in service (took about 1-2 weeks), i've been using the 8400gs on my system. during this period, my computer would hard freeze as often as once every 15 minutes. happened most during any game, happened less while doing a random thing, such as watching a Internet video, and happened least when my pc was idle

So i upgraded my motherboard/chip a month or so ago and everything seemed to be working great. The part that worried me was when I swapped out the Mobo/chip,I didnt do a clean install because i had no way to back up any information. (there was really nothing important to back up besides 20gb of music and my saved game files). So what I did was after the swap, I put in the reinstallation disc, chose custom options, installed a custom version of windows and copied over my User folder from the "windows.old" file in to the new User folder. Something didn't feel right, despite ecerything working jsut fine, so I made this post a while back:
[URL]
Now, last night, I finally recieved my 32GB flash drive in the mail so I can do everything the correct way. I copied my User file over to the flash drive and found a guide on-line with screenshots on how to correctly do a clean install. 1 hour later I had a new version of Windows on my HDD and alomst instantly I started to have BSODs, one after another!!
Most, if not all BSODs had the 0x00000124 code. After doing a simple google search, I found that this is a vague hardware issue Yes, I OC'd my cpu. Its a i7 2600k. Why wouldn't I? NO, I didn't revert my mobo to the default settings before doing the clean install. Can this be part of the issue?
Random thoughts/information:
-After the clean install, I used the mobo disc to install drivers
-After the clean install, I used the EVGA disc to install drivers, as well as went to their website to get the lastest (i got the driver dated 2/21/2012)
-I use a wireless mouse and wireless keyboards (logitech) and the dongles were left in while doing the clean install
-My HDD is 1 TB in capacity. For some reason it says only 931GB in the control panel. (this is big concern, because before I did the mobo swap/custom install, i could have sworn it said 1024GB
-Am I looking at needing to wipe the drive entirely? Using DBAN or something rather than just a clean install?

For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

after successfully installing windows 7 (my first windows install since XP, after which I moved to Ubuntu) and doing the initial set-up etc., installing my own anti virus software and MS Office etc, I thought it was time to let it update itself.
however, every time I tell it to update then shut down it fails. I tried to troubleshoot it using the MS help box which was very little actual help, and then tried to initiate the update manually, however, when it comes to installing some windows 7 security and system updates and some IE updates, installation fails, resulting in error code 800736B3, whatever that means. The updates it fails on are:
security update for INternet explorer 8 for windows 7 (KB974455)
security update for windows 7 (KB974571)
security update for windows 7 (KB975467)
update for internet explorer 8 compatability view list for windows 7 (KB975364)
update for internet explorer 8 for windows 7 (KB976749)
update for windows 7 (KB974431) I'm currently running avast! (v4.8 home edition) following Windows 7 informing me that it would not allow AVG to run (it was from an 'untrusted source' apparently, despite having been working a few days previously), but thats another problem entirely
Any help than can be offered will be much obliged! All I've been able to turn up from googling is a command that un-registers windows, which then for some reason allows the updates to occur, following which I can use my original activation code (given to me by digital river with the student upgrade deal) to re-activate windows, although I am reluctant to try this!
