Jun 25, 2011I am looking for replacement of window explorer - dual pane.I know there is Directory opus. I have seen a few others last year bur I am unable to find them now.I use windows 7 ultimate sp1.

Dec 7, 2009I am installing more RAM in my system, and want to monitor the page file for improvement/reduction in size and use. Other than performance monitor, can I see the page file in either task manager or resource monitor?

Jun 13, 2011I recently found I could not rename an MS Word file selected in Windows Explorer while the Preview Pane was "on". Apparently, Windows opens a Winword process to display the file and Windows considers the file "open". With Preview Pane "off", the Winword process quits and the file can then be renamed. Is this a "feature" of Windows or a bug that Microsoft can / should fix?

Sep 26, 2011Four days ago, suddenly file list pane disappeared when I try to save a document. At first file list was absent only when printing file to a PDF but now I'm not able to see file list pane in any of the saves in any document. I had updated Acrobat X when I had received an automatic update and I suspect that is when that happened so today I removed Acrobat X and problem did not go away so I made a fresh install of the version that was working for me but the problem still persists. I now have to type the name of the file I want to save while before I would select an existing file from the list and then modify the name slightly to reflect the version number.

Jun 9, 2009I've installed 64bit win 7 on a 2nd partion of my main drive running vista 64bit. The installation all went smoothly and loaded into win 7.
But when restarted I did't get a windows boot manager screen so i could pick if I wish to load Vista or Windows 7, instead my system just loads straight into Vista.
Do I have to enable my system to be able to see the Windows 7 install?

Feb 13, 2012I have written a batch file to run every afternoon, using Task Manager.When I was running WIndows XP, the Task Manager (or it may have been the batch file itself) opened a new DOS window whilst it was running so that I could see everything was working correctly. Under Windows 7, the same batch file will only run in a new window if I run it myself - if it runs in Task Manager it will only run in the background. How can I get it to oipen a DOS window whilst running through Task Manager, please?

Dec 9, 2012My PC is windows 7 ultimate 32bit OS! Few days ago I connected my pc with few friends pc to play a game via lan! After that day whenever I start my pc the start screen (desktop) does not show and directly my documents folder opens. When I close the folder a blank screen appears. Then I go to task manager n new task n then type explorer.exe, then it works normally !!!
This has happened every time I restart the pc. I downloaded MSE and removed the viruses that had corrupted the explorer file. Then I went to run n used the sfc / scannow command.... but nothing works and same old error i.e., no startup screen! How do I get the explorer.exe to execute on its own without always going to task manager! There is no other error in the pc other than that!

Nov 10, 2012Recently I changed the boot logo/screen on my computer to a custom one. When I got tired of it and wanted to change it back, I googled how I could restore it. Running the CMD as admin and typing "bcdedit %WinDir% /l en-US" would restore it back to its original boot logo. I tried it and then restarted my computer as instructed. As soon as it starts to boot up I get a message from the "Windows Boot Manager" telling me that there is a file that cannot be recognized: "windows/system32/winload.exe" My drivers for my keyboard are out of date apparently as I cant press "enter" to continue. It told me i could alternatively insert my windows 7 disc and restart. I inserted that disc and restarted and the same screen comes up.

May 5, 2009I'm having a problem every time I power on the system. I'm dual booting vista ultimate with win 7 build 7100; with vista I have no problem, but with 7 every time I start the system the first boot attempt gives me the error 0xc000000e after the boot manager display: "the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible".;after a reset the system boots 7 with no problems. Win 7 is installed in a brand new hd(seagate barracuda 1.5tb) and vista on a second hd.
I've search the web for people with a similar problem with no success. I've tryed already many solutions but the problem persists(latest bios for the motherboard, latest intel sata drivers, etc). I'm hoping that this could be a bug in win 7 instead of a hardware failure for the hd. Again, the strange thing is that this only happen after the power on. After that first error, no matter how many reboots, the system always boot without problems.
Dual Operating Systems File Corruption?
Sep 13, 2012I have Win7 on NTFS, Ubuntu 10.04 on EXT4 and a third partition for general data with both operating systems can access.The third, shared partition is in FAT32.I have had this set up for years with no problems. Recently, I have found that files that I use, move, etc on my Ubuntu sometimes become corrupted. It is very occasional but is occurring more regularly. I use many files (obviously) but only a fraction of those appear to suffer with the problems. The files are generally left irrecoverably corrupted. It is only files that are stored on the shared FAT partition that become corrupted.All partitions are on the same drive.
To solve the problem, I reboot into Windows and sometimes CHKDSK does it's thing and sorts it all out. However, when CHKDSK does not run, the files are irrecoverably gone. CHKDSK says there are orphaned files, removes and recovers them. Sometimes, a file which has been deleted on on Ubuntu may then cause CHKDSK to scan, find and remove the file (or more particularly, sets all affected sectors to null). I can't quite place the error. Possibly in a ageing and failing Hard Drive? The Laptop is circa 3 years old-ish. I would say that combining file systems is an invitation for trouble - but genuinely I have never had any problems with it before. Sometimes I access Ubuntu when Windows is suspended which I feel may cause Read/Write collisions at OS level but if that is the case, surely it should prevent me accessing the file, rather than permit it and then treat the sectors as bad?

Nov 18, 2009I have 2 pcs on a LAN with a 100mbps switch, and they are also directly connected via Gigabit crossover. When both ran XP, I could uncheck "File and Printer Sharing" on each 100mbps connection, and they used only the direct crossover at 1gbps.
Now, with Windows 7 on one and XP on the other, copying files uses the switch by default, even with "File and Printer Sharing" unchecked. This is ridiculous. It should be able to see that there's a wide open connection that's ten times faster sitting completely idle. I even think that the "Local Area Network 2", not the primary.
Any ideas?

Aug 27, 2010frequently my navigation pane at the bottom of my desktop disappears. it usually happens when i leave the laptop running. i can't seem to go to system restore since it only lets me go back to the previous day. this has been going on for over a week and i do not know how to resolve the issue. i have searched the internet to find solutions but have not been able to do so. to resolve the problem i have to bring up the task manger and end explorer. then i have to run explorer again for the navigation bar/pane to appear.
