I recently found I could not rename an MS Word file selected in Windows Explorer while the Preview Pane was "on". Apparently, Windows opens a Winword process to display the file and Windows considers the file "open". With Preview Pane "off", the Winword process quits and the file can then be renamed. Is this a "feature" of Windows or a bug that Microsoft can / should fix?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI do a great deal of video editing and special effects on my Windows 7 (home premium, 64bit) laptop. Many of the stock footage clips I use are .mov files and a lot of the sound files I use are .wav and .mp3. Unfortunately, these files do not preview (They don't play) in the preview pane in Windows Explorer. .mp4 videos do preview, but I have not tested anything else. All of the above mention files play just fine in the standalone WMP. Do I need to download extra codecs to make them work in the preview pane?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 and have been unable to preview any Office 2003 documents in the Explorer preview pane. This includes doc and excel files. The preview pane just says "No preview available."
I can view gif, txt, xml, pdf, html, etc. In general, Office is working, i.e. I can create and edit Office documents.
On a related note, I would also like to be able to javascript files which are just plain text, but I'm not sure how to do that.
This just started recently. Most messages come through with images but certain ones, and it seems to be from the same senders, the just have a place marker...the little box with the red X. The pic below is from [URL] If I open the email in another email program, the images are there so it isn't on their side.
I have looked at the Trust Center and that is set correctly.
So is there any way to reduce the message size so it fits in the preview pane? (like how you can hit ctrl+scroll wheel and change the IE8 font on a web page)
I upgraded from XP and am very impressed so far with 7 but the mail program hasn't changed much.
basically (I'll try to be descriptive), I have an Excel file (extension xlsm) on my USB and I right click it, send to --> desktop (create shortcut). I see the shortcut. I right click and attempt to rename it with a different file extension, but the 'Rename' box doesn't show up like I believe it should and the file name changes without the warning. I need to do this for the shortcut I've created, not the file on the USB.I have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unchecked and 'Display the full path in the title bar' checked, as I believe they should be.

I decompiled a chm to html and then opened the html in word. Now the .html that is opened in word, wont show my headings in the Navigation pane. It works in every other document I just use HEading1,2,3 and it shows up fine
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to save a file and got an error on saving it, so I quit the program. The file appears as if it was never saved and doesn't show up in directory listing (GUI or cmd.exe).
However, if I try to rename any other file to that filename, it says "Cannot rename file, because file exists" and appends a number to the end. I cannot remove the number. This happens both in the GUI and cmd.exe as well.
So, basically cmd.exe del says the file does not exist, but ren says a duplicate file name exists....
I have no idea how to delete that "ghost" of a file so I can actually use the filename. I checked folder options and it's not a hidden file or anything like that - it just (doesn't) exist, but it does?

Since 2 days, in a certain folder, I cant rename, move or delete folders or files. Now, it has spread to my desktop as well. If I rename a folder, even a new folder, the name changes ''magically'' within seconds to restore to its previous name. If I move the folder or file, it comes back and if I delete it, it restores. I tried to make a system restore, even format (!), the problem persists. I use this folder to tag and rename my new mp3s so I have to be able to 1) rename, 2) move the folders the files and folders in it.

At first file list was absent only when printing file to a PDF but now I'm not able to see file list pane in any of the saves in any document. I had updated Acrobat X when I had received an automatic update and I suspect that is when that happened so today I removed Acrobat X and problem did not go away so I made a fresh install of the version that was working for me but the problem still persists. I now have to type the name of the file I want to save while before I would select an existing file from the list and then modify the name slightly to reflect the version number.

I've got them all seeing each other, and they can see the folders in the drive, but when I try to add files or rename files, it tells me that I need permission. I've gone through the advance settings to make sure the correct permission is selected, they all have the same workgroup name and different computer names. I found that if I download and run Crazy Talk software, I can access them, well, from what I read on the internet. I am trying it out now.
Using Windows 7 Home Premium. I have some MS Word 97-2003 .doc files that I cannot Delete, Move, nor Rename. I get this message: The action can't be completed because the file is open in Microsoft Word
If I edit them and do Save As... I cannot delete the new file either. It only hapens on some of my old files - not all.
