Using Windows 7 Home Premium. I have some MS Word 97-2003 .doc files that I cannot Delete, Move, nor Rename. I get this message: The action can't be completed because the file is open in Microsoft Word
If I edit them and do Save As... I cannot delete the new file either. It only hapens on some of my old files - not all.
A Word document suddenly changes into a 'read only' file which cannot be saved or deleted. I have 'saved' under different file names as instructed, but as a result I now have 10 versions of the document, 9 of which I don't want! The 'Help' file says go to 'Properties' and untick the 'read only' box. The boxes aren't ticked, so I still cannot delete. How do I delete these files?
When using Notepad (Version 6.1.7600.16385) (or just any Version for that matter) and trying to delete a whole word using the very handy ctrl + delete shortcut key, the Notepad application types this very strange symbol instead. Actually... I couldn't paste it for some reason. But it looks like a little box thing. Just try it in notepad and you will see it appear. First of all I find this annoying, so I was wondering what can I do to make it so ctrl + del works in Notepad for deleting whole words (because I love notepad). And second, why does it do this? Notepad isn't the only text box in Windows 7 that does this, I've found it on a couple of other text input elements as well. And what does this symbol even mean?
Ok, I don't know why this happens....I have word documents saved on my computer on a few back up drives. I recently went to go into them and they are now .cts files.
I found that if I download and run Crazy Talk software, I can access them, well, from what I read on the internet. I am trying it out now.
Last night, my computer rebooted itself unexpectedly while I was accessing a Word document. I was constantly saving the document, so I expected that it would come back up when the computer rebooted. Every time I try to open it in Word, it says that the file is corrupt and cannot be read. I have tried the Open & Repair function. I have also tried the Extract Text from All Files function. When I did the latter, the document came up to about 1,000 pages worth of different codes. When I open it in WordPad, the most recent things I saved did not come up. I am absolutely sure that I saved what I was working on. Is there any way I can fix this corrupt file? It is a crucial part of an assignment.
WIN 7 64bits multi-users account, one and only one account has admin rights.I've installed the MS-Proofing Tools 2000 for MS-Word 2000 under the admin account without any error msg. When I try to spell/grammar check in some installed languages (i.e. German) I get "Word cannot open the spelling file c:programs files(x86)common filesMicrosoft SharedProofMSSP3GEp.lex for German(Germany)".
Is there a way to change MS Word file icons in Windows 7 x86. Since i know it has been possible on XP under view file options menu, and the same option is not available in 7?
I recently found I could not rename an MS Word file selected in Windows Explorer while the Preview Pane was "on". Apparently, Windows opens a Winword process to display the file and Windows considers the file "open". With Preview Pane "off", the Winword process quits and the file can then be renamed. Is this a "feature" of Windows or a bug that Microsoft can / should fix?
One of the schools we work in uses a resource called Primary Resources. It includes downloadable files that can be used for teaching. Here is a link:Primary Resources: English: Word Level: Spelling & PhonicsThe teaches are trying to download the .DOC files on the web page but they are getting a popup in IE to save saying the file may be corrupted. In the background word crashes and has a box saying "Word cannot close because there is an active dialog box open". You then have to end the process to be able to use word again.
I'm using Word 2007 and it gives me the option of saving a file to the .doc format instead of .docx. However it gets corrupted and it ends up looking like a notepad file when I open it.
I am using windows 7 as the OS.I have installed MS Office 2010 Beta, and having Adobe Reader 9.I came know how to convert word documents to pdf files using MS Office 2010.I had seen an article " how to convert pdf files to word documents?" on a site. The given procedure is, by clicking insert tab in MS office 2010, and then by clicking Object button, and clicking "create from file" tab and then browse pdf file.I have followed the procedure given. But it is converting only the first page of the pdf file, but not all the pages.I am here to know "How to convert the entire pdf file into word document" using MS Office 2010 ( without installing any application).
sporadic (4 out of 10) issues with saving files. Opens file from the network (AD) drive adds data which takes about 10 min. then saves the file. The save appears to be successful then user closes file and gets file permissions erro Yes or No to save file to another location or change name. They save it to another location. The original file disappears from the network drive.
I use tags to keep things organized. I can edit and update the tags on Word 2003 files just fine. But when I try to edit and save them on the newer files I get the following error:I've checked ownership and permissions, they both appear to be set properly, and that gives a different error anyway.I've also noticed that the older Word 2003 files allow for a thumbnail icon of the document, but this doesn't work for 2007 even if the thumbnail box is checked. I can edit the document information inside Word of course, but that doesn't show up in Windows Explorer searches.
I have a problem with Microsoft Word 2010. When I save the file as PDF file, the Word 2010 saves the file as PDF but the background image is in tiles, instead of stretched. Also, in the document, the background image is stretched. But when I save the document as PDF, it applies the background in tiles.
I have a situation where Word 2010 does not default back to the previous file location. i.e., I open a file from a particular folder. When I click File, Open, it does not default to that folder location so I can open another file from that location. I have to rebrowse to the folder location.
Each day, the first time I opening 'any' existing Microsoft Works Word Processor file that I have, such as ones I have for phone numbers, addresses, etc., I have to wait about 45 seconds for the file to open. And while I'm waiting, I can't do anything else on the computer. Any of those files I open the rest of the day, open immediately. It's just the first time each day.

I now have windows 7 and my adobe reader 9 does not work, neither can I convert a pdf file to a word document - use to be able to do this when I had window vista and Microsoft word 7. So much for buying update software.
I have a copy of my maths assignment (my most recent version...which is not backed up) that I have been unable to open. The error is: The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents. Details: The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag. Location: Part:/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 12620. How to correct this error? I am working with Word 2010.

I can't delete a jpg file from our computer. The issue is that we can't even click on the file w/o it freezing the computer. I noticed the problem because I tried to run a defrag and virus check but both get stuck on this same file. I can't right click on it or even drag a box over it w/o the computer freezing.
so i cant delete a file that is giving my computer viruses. I went in and tried to set the security to allow me to delete, but even with me being the administrator i cant change anything this is the file: C:WindowsInstaller{e0b2d104-07bf-22c0-683c-905e6600cc79}
I had some RAR files, which I extracted into a single 8GB 1080p movie file. Throughout the movie playback my PC lagged like it was 50 years old and the movie kept getting stuck at times. Now when I attempt to delete the movie file, it says recycling but it never goes any further on the green progress bar. I have gone into safe mode and tried deleting it, same issue, it gets stuck there. I have played other 1080p files bigger than 8GB and they have run with no issues at all, so this file is just weird and corrupted. And now it won't get deleted I tried using file shredder and THAT also got stuck and went nowhere. I tried cut/paste the file into another external HDD and that also got stuck. How the heck do I get rid of it? PC starts lagging a lot if I touch it. Will system restore remove it?I have: Windows 7 Ultimate Core2Duo 3.0ghz 4GB RAM Nvidia GTS 250
Downloaded a few cbr files (comic books in .cbr format) and now I have a file listed with 0 bytes that wont let me delete it. I've tried unlocker, killbox and a few other things to try to get rid of this annoying file but nothing seems to work to make it go away. I even downloaded the same file again but while the file successfully downloaded again, the "ghost" file is still there. It is not a virus or malware; I checked that already. When I try to delete the file I get this message:"Could not find this item." "This is no longer located inC:\user(foldername)\Downloads. Verify the item's location and try again."
I have two blank files on my desktop. I can't rename them, and I can't delete them either! When I try and drag it over to the Recycle Bin, nothing happens. When I try and delete one of them, I get the message "Could not find this item".
