How To Get Explorer File To Execute On Its Own Without Task Manager

Dec 9, 2012

My PC is windows 7 ultimate 32bit OS! Few days ago I connected my pc with few friends pc to play a game via lan! After that day whenever I start my pc the start screen (desktop) does not show and directly my documents folder opens. When I close the folder a blank screen appears. Then I go to task manager n new task n then type explorer.exe, then it works normally !!!

This has happened every time I restart the pc. I downloaded MSE and removed the viruses that had corrupted the explorer file. Then I went to run n used the sfc / scannow command.... but nothing works and same old error i.e., no startup screen! How do I get the explorer.exe to execute on its own without always going to task manager! There is no other error in the pc other than that!

Hosts File Alternate Location Is Not Recognized?

Nov 28, 2012

I have tried to move the hosts file location by changing the registrykeyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParametersDataBasePathto the desired folder location. However, it appears that this key is somehow ignored by my system (Windows 7 64 bit) and the default location%SystemRoot%system32driversetc is still the one where the hosts file is read.I notice it because any changes made to the hosts file in the default location are detected (I check it with the ping command) and any changes to the new location are simply ignoredI have copied and pasted the hosts file with different values between the default and new folder, so I guess it is not a problem with the hosts file having the wrong format. I also copied and paste the new folder path to the registry key so it is also not a problem of having misspelled the folder path, either. I also restarted the computer after changing the registry key.

You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I did a search but could not find anything related to this error in Win 7. Windows Explorer Keeps Restarting, Task Manager Unavailable

Jan 16, 2012

I am currently experiencing consistent restarting (every few seconds) of Windows Explorer on my PC. And this has caused the desktop to be unavailable/inaccessible. I'm desperate . To find out the error which is causing this, I need to access task manager (event viewer), which is also unavailable (greyed out when I right click on the task bar). By accessing the task manager, I hoped to stop the windows explorer process so that I can at least access to my school project. I cannot afford to reload the OS (Windows 7 Pro) as this will affect my school project.

Windows Explorer Restarted By Restart Manager On Logon

Jun 4, 2012

I've just booted my machine, and after logging in heard the default sound that gets played when the computer is shut down. Obviously this isn't normal, so I checked the Event Viewer and found the following events.

Starting session 1 - ‎2012‎-‎06‎-‎03T09:12:20.323285600Z.

Shutting down application or service 'Windows Explorer'.

Restarting application or service 'Windows Explorer'.

Ending session 1 started ‎2012‎-‎06‎-‎03T09:12:20.323285600Z.

Has anyone else encountered this, and what does it mean? From a Google search, it looks like Restart Manager had to restart Explorer for some reason. I can't figure out why, though.

Windows 7 Boot Manager - File Cannot Be Recognized

Nov 10, 2012

Recently I changed the boot logo/screen on my computer to a custom one. When I got tired of it and wanted to change it back, I googled how I could restore it. Running the CMD as admin and typing "bcdedit %WinDir% /l en-US" would restore it back to its original boot logo. I tried it and then restarted my computer as instructed. As soon as it starts to boot up I get a message from the "Windows Boot Manager" telling me that there is a file that cannot be recognized: "windows/system32/winload.exe" My drivers for my keyboard are out of date apparently as I cant press "enter" to continue. It told me i could alternatively insert my windows 7 disc and restart. I inserted that disc and restarted and the same screen comes up.

How To Install Windows 7 To Alternate Drive Other Than C

Apr 6, 2010

I have a brand new hard disk on which I would like to install Windows 7 (Enterprise Edition). I actually want to install the OS to a drive other than C, let's say drive L. Up through Windows XP the following method worked: In the setup, I would partition the drive and make logical drives of the minimum size from C to K, with a final one, L, big enough for the OS and everything else. I could tell the install program to install Windows in L. A few system files would be in C, all the rest in L. Then after I deleted partitions D-K and fixed a line in C:oot.ini to compensate for that, everything was fine.

In my brief experience trying to install Windows 7 on my new drive, this technique does not work. There is no easy way to create logical drives during the install from DVD/ISO procedure and even when I tried creating three small partitions ahead of a large partition as the target partition, Windows still installed itself in drive C. I know it is possible for Windows 7 to install itself to other drives (I've read other posts where people have complained about this), I just don't know how to force Windows to install itself on a drive with a specific alternate letter.

Close file and try again". Except that the file ISN'T open anywhere.

Download Windows 7 Virtual PC And XP Mode On Alternate Computer

Jan 27, 2012

I just purchased a SYX Mid-Tower ATX Computer from Tiger Direct and it has the capability to run the Windows XP mode and the Virtual Mode. I have an OEM Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS.My problem is that I only a dial-up internet connection, the XP mode file alone is > 500Mb in size. I calculated I would have to tie up the phone line for over a day and I only have one line.Is there a way to get the files on my work computer, which has a T1 line. However it is running Vista not Windows 7.I live 40 miles from my home computer to my work computer. and is a real pain to go all this distance. Microsoft is paranoid as usual. They forget that not everyone has a fast internet connection at home, or can even get one, especially in the country.I can not fathom that one can not get a CD/DVD that can check if your OS is a real one and not a fake ,along with a copy on the needed files. I have validated my computer at home.

CPU Usage Spikes Tremendously For Low-End Process (Task Manager / Explorer)

May 17, 2011

System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate , 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9900 @ 3.06GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 16371 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 476837 MB, Free - 177560 MB; E: Total - 476936 MB, Free - 28762 MB; F: Total - 1907725 MB, Free - 68972 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Inc., 076V94,
Antivirus: Symantec Endpoint Protection, Updated and Enabled

Now to the actual problem. The reason I bought all this RAM was so that the computer would run faster and more smoothly. Despite the large amount of memory, however, I still experience frequent spikes in CPU Usage, which I have learned is not related to RAM very much if at all. Regardless, I would still assume that my system wouldn't have to overexert itself to run simple tasks like Windows Explorer (i.e., folders, desktop and taskbar) or the Task Manager itself.

Either of these tasks, as well as others such as "System," "svchost," or "File I/O Surrogate" (none of which I know much about) can spike to anywhere from 30-70% of the CPU without warning, and when it does, the total CPU Usage ends up being 100, which REALLY makes my laptop sluggish and unresponsive.

I understand that RAM does not directly impact CPU Usage, but I would also assume that, since my laptop isn't ancient, that its CPU shouldn't struggle to display my folders/desktop/taskbar, or to run the Task Manager itself. I also run a daily virus check with Symantec Anti-Virus, so I don't think infection is the issue. In addition to that, I monitor memory usage alongside CPU usage, and the memory usage never goes higher than 10.5 (it usually hovers around 6-8) or so GB of my available 16-- insufficient RAM is also probably not the problem.

While Trying To Open A File From Explorer / Could Not Scroll Down To File

Jan 28, 2011

I had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.

Can't See Old Explorer File Comments From XP In Windows 7?

Jun 30, 2011

I just put together a new PC with decent motherboard, AMD quad CPU, 8 GB RAM, solid-state C: main drive, new 2 TB disk slave drive F:, plus an older external drive G:. I loaded Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit.I have many video files (mp4, flv, mpg, mpeg & wmv). These were compiled on another computer running XP Home SP3. The problem is that I can no longer access file details, which is a huge problem. So, when I right-click a file name, hit Properties, Details, Comments, my old text notes are either missing or there is no comments field, depending on file type. I see all users have full rights, and I unchecked Read-only and Hidden File and applied to all. No change. I tried copying files to the other drives ... no change.

The mp4 files don't show my old notes in the empty Comments line. The flv files show no comments line at all. The mpg and mpeg have a blank Comments line that cannot be filled in; same for Nero VOB files. The wmv files, however, are the only ones that show the old notes in the comments line.As for pics, the jpg files seem to have their comments intact (whew!).If I put the external drive back on the XP machine, the comments are there. I later installed Nero 9 from their website

Cannot Delete File - Used By Windows Explorer

Nov 16, 2012

So I have a few very small files that I want to delete but when I try, it says "used by Windows Explorer." But I know I run Command Prompt, but when I type in the file name, it says, it cannot be found. The harder problem is that I don't think Command Prompt recognizes the name...it's:

dddrkknghtrsssss72bd.dago (1) - Copy and
dddrkknghtrsssss72bd.dago (1)

Which is why I cannot delete them through Command Prompt...I deleted others no problem as they have "regular" names...

Cannot Save Files To Alternate PCs

Apr 13, 2011

I have a desktop (A) and a laptop (B) with W7 Home Premium 64-bit and a laptop (C) with W7 Home Premium 32-bit. I have been trying to connect all three so that I can have full control of files. For example: When I am on A I would like to access and alter files on B. When I try to save a file I have worked on, I get the message that I do not have permission or could not save file is blocked.

I have given each PC a unique user name and given each full control on the respective PCs by going to Properties > Advanced Sharing > Permissions. I have gone into Windows Firewall to allow programs to communicate and added the programs I wish to use. I have done Take Ownership.

Firewall - Allow Alternate Ports For RDP

Aug 10, 2009

I'm looking for help configuring Windows 7 (RTM) firewall to allow traffic for an alternate Remote Desktop listening port in the most secure way possible. I know how to just open up the port completely, which works, but I'd rather not do that if I can just open it up for the Remote Desktop program.

I don't seem to be able to just "copy" the built-in Remote Desktop rule and change the port because the port number cannot be edited in some of the built in rules (or copies thereof, I guess). If it matters, I need to be able to access this port with both "old" and "new" versions of Remote Desktop (from an XP machine, as well as another windows 7 machine, for example).

Can anyone offer any assistance or otherwise offer any advice for my situation?

Win 7 Freezes After Alternate Boot

Aug 24, 2009

Whenever I boot from an alternate source, (Knoppix linux CD boot, windows XP from dual booting), windows 7 freezes at the login screen. It does this everytime without fail, and only after the alternate boot once.

After this happens, I turn off my computer and restart and it boots fine. I did install a dual boot and mess with the partitions, but I found this happening even after I booted from a linux cd (knoppix, and did not change anything)

So it seems that after booting from an alternate source something changes for the windows 7 boot, and after a hard reset it fixes?

Task Manager Running A Batch File

I have written a batch file to run every afternoon, using Task Manager. When I was running WIndows XP, the Task Manager (or it may have been the batch file itself) opened a new DOS window whilst it was running so that I could see everything was working correctly. Under Windows 7, the same batch file will only run in a new window if I run it myself - if it runs in Task Manager it will only run in the background. I even tried just renaming the folder and it tells me I have to get permission from me. I checked my permissions. I ran as admin. I even enabled the super-admin profile and tried it there.I tried restoring a previous version of the folder and it tells me it's successful, but it remains the same corrupted version.
