For troubleshooting purposes, I would like to have an app who can follow what IE is doing (his calls to register, opening and using activex controlers, etc...).
Is there anything out there specificly for IE ?

Now to the actual problem. The reason I bought all this RAM was so that the computer would run faster and more smoothly. Despite the large amount of memory, however, I still experience frequent spikes in CPU Usage, which I have learned is not related to RAM very much if at all. Regardless, I would still assume that my system wouldn't have to overexert itself to run simple tasks like Windows Explorer (i.e., folders, desktop and taskbar) or the Task Manager itself.
Either of these tasks, as well as others such as "System," "svchost," or "File I/O Surrogate" (none of which I know much about) can spike to anywhere from 30-70% of the CPU without warning, and when it does, the total CPU Usage ends up being 100, which REALLY makes my laptop sluggish and unresponsive.
I understand that RAM does not directly impact CPU Usage, but I would also assume that, since my laptop isn't ancient, that its CPU shouldn't struggle to display my folders/desktop/taskbar, or to run the Task Manager itself. I also run a daily virus check with Symantec Anti-Virus, so I don't think infection is the issue. In addition to that, I monitor memory usage alongside CPU usage, and the memory usage never goes higher than 10.5 (it usually hovers around 6-8) or so GB of my available 16-- insufficient RAM is also probably not the problem.
When I'm downloading something to my secondary HDD the internet explorer default download manager is first storing the file on my SSD-disk in the user temp folder, and after the download is finished it copy the content to my secondary hdd and deletes all data in the temp folder.How can I prevent it doing so? I want to store the file directly where I put the file.I have to download maybe 1TB of data and I don't want my SSD disk to store and delete that amount of data
View 6 Replies View RelatedNew dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and also ~5 different processes than PE, and PE lists some processes running that TM doesn't list. So PE and TM show different running processes at the same time. How can that be? For the processes that PE shows "error opening", e.g., crss, etc., when I click properties in TM for the same process, sometimes I get the usual/normal pop-up window listing the path, and all the other data as normal, suggesting the process is working properly. But sometimes when I click properties in TM for the processes that PE shows "error opening", I get no pop-up at all, nothing for that process. So, IMO, it's not just a PE glitch, something is actually wrong here. This is a new machine, with PE the only 3rd party installation. I have installed several dell driver updates, but this problem occurred before I installed them. Also, remember PE and TM simultaneously list some different running processes and TM also fails to show paths, etc.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a laptop with windows home premium 64 bit installed on it and I use it for gaming a lot. It's high spec and there's usually no problem but I've been having problems with guild wars 2.Basically the game crashes a lot. When it crashes, I end the application in task manager but if you go to the processes tab the process is still there and clicking end process or end process tree doesn't close it down. The game won't restart while this is hanging so I have to reboot the laptop. It's getting very annoying and is happening a couple of times a day. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Is there a way to kill processes quickly or does anyone know what I can do to stop the crashes full stop?I've tried opening task manager and closing the application then closing down the process which doesn't work. I tried ending the process first before ending the application but that still closes down the application and leaves the process hanging. The last thing I did was shutdown before going home and I believe it installed an update then shutdown, so I'm suspecting the update caused the problem.
I can't get into the F8 Safe Mode screen to try Last known good configuration so I think I'll try a System Restore from the install DVD. Does that sound like a good approach?
I don't have the specs with me but I think it's a 2.8Ghz Dual core Intel with 4GB RAM and two SATA drives. It's been running fine for about a year.

My PC is windows 7 ultimate 32bit OS! Few days ago I connected my pc with few friends pc to play a game via lan! After that day whenever I start my pc the start screen (desktop) does not show and directly my documents folder opens. When I close the folder a blank screen appears. Then I go to task manager n new task n then type explorer.exe, then it works normally !!!
This has happened every time I restart the pc. I downloaded MSE and removed the viruses that had corrupted the explorer file. Then I went to run n used the sfc / scannow command.... but nothing works and same old error i.e., no startup screen! How do I get the explorer.exe to execute on its own without always going to task manager! There is no other error in the pc other than that!
Looked in the task manager today and noticed 4 separate entries for explorer.exe / windows explorer. Is this normal? Or does it indicate a problem? Windows 7 32 bit system.

I'm desperate . To find out the error which is causing this, I need to access task manager (event viewer), which is also unavailable (greyed out when I right click on the task bar). By accessing the task manager, I hoped to stop the windows explorer process so that I can at least access to my school project. I cant get internet download manager to work on windows 7 It works fine on my old xp. But I've tried 3 times one windows 7. It just will not work. I get sum error message code 0x80040154 when I try to download links. It works on my windows starter netbook just fine but not on normal windows 7 for pc. Also internee download manager I shard to uninstall, so I don't want to install it again unless im sure it will work.

There is no issue with IDM, just an annoyaIDM is great, I use it all the time. But I don't want it to handle all of my downloads. Sometimes, it doesn't work properly with certain sites (the ones that make you wait a certain amount of time before you can download the file), and it's during those times that I really hate IDM.What I want changed is for IDM to only intercept streaming files, not files I could otherwise download anyway (like programs, etc). I open a text file I want to edit, then go to save my changes and I get this error:"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".I have full admin rights, running Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1. From a bit of research I have seen where many others have been experiencing this problem or something similar too. The only "fix" (that doesn't work all the time) is to close explorer.exe and then restart it to "release the handle"? Anyway, this is not acceptable for all the money and time I spent upgrading/configuring this new OS from XP -where I never had this problem- and seriously cuts down my productivity.Has Microsoft even acknowledged this as a bug yet? Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. I have not experienced this problem on any other pc running any version of windows 7, oh and the same happened with build 7264 x32 and the current install of build 7600 x64.
I normally use Mozilla Firefox but an upgrade programme I recently downloaded needs IE to install. IE couldn't display the webpage so I downloaded and installed IE9 On running there was a script error. Line 1, Char 1, Error 'Components is undefined', Code 0 and URL chrome://simppulltoolbar/content/lib/external.js. I selected Yes to continue running scripts. Then came this error. IE cannot display the webpage. I selected Diagnose Connection Problems but Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem.
