Windows 7 64-bit Explorer.exe Process Keeps Crashing And Restarting
Jul 20, 2012
My Windows Explorer keeps crashing and restarting. When I checked the Event Log, it has apparently been doing this randomly since I had the software installed (replacing my Windows XP) 10 months ago. However, it is happening more frequently now. For the most part, the errors all refer to a 'timeout' when waiting for a response from different services. Latest error:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the SftService service.
I upgraded from Vista to 7 back in September & other than the *random & occasional* crash of Windows Explorer, & I've been very happy with 7. Until last night.I was in the middle of (trying to) clean up & organize my video folders. Everything was going pretty smoothly until I tried to cut an .mkv & paste it to my desktop temporarily. As soon as I right-clicked on the file, Windows Explorer crashed. That was the first time it had happened in a week or so. After everything restarted, I tried again & I was able to cut & paste the mkv.

just got myself a new laptop and windows explorer is constantly crashing/restarting when I browse or use the explorer in any way. Examples are when I browse around, click save as (which crashes also the program, a big issue for me) or even when I installed the windows SDK just now it crashed 5 times during the installation.I searched around a little, but so far no luck. I tried: - Running Safe-Mode (problem persists) - Do a cleanboot - do a virus check - copy explorer.exe from c:/windows to c:/windows/system32 - Update all drivers.- uninstall firefox OperatingSystemMS Windows7HomePremium64-bit SP1InstallationDate:28October2011,23:58CPU IntelCore i7 @2.00GHz SandyBridge32nmTechnologyRAM 16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @665MHz(9-9-9-24) Motherboard ASUSTeKComputerInc. I'm new here and I've been having some problems with explorer crashing. I've searched all over the net including various forums and while I've found cases similar to mine none of them are quite like it. For instance, explorer will crash and ask for me to restart it randomly. It's not the right-click crash like some have had, I've checked my registry for a machine throttling string that caused some people crashes, but mine will just happen out of the blue, usually (but not always) when I have an explorer window open. The crash itself doesn't effect much. All my programs will continue to run as normal so it's not a huge deal, it's just annoying as it will happen sporadically throughout the day. I've ran various spyware, malware, and virus scans all to no avail and I've even used a registry cleaner. I've also tried running sfc /scannow in the command prompt as an administrator. I've rebooted several times since and it still happens. I can't reproduce it, it just happens out of nowhere, but here's the error.
i'm running windows 7 ultimate x86.specifically it's just one one folder, but when i try the access the folder/path in explorer, explorer either crashes, hangs, or restarts.it mainly always restarts when i try to access this one folder.this only happens when i download a torrent from one torrent site i use, i know the file is clean, scanned it for viruses.i can access the path just fine in alternative file manager that isn't explorer, and i can play the video too.here's a Internet video i made showing the issue crashing - Internet?how to fix explorer from crashing on this on folder.
i've been running windows 7 on my computer ever since i found out i need a higher bit os to run my movie editing programs. as i filled up my c drive and d drive with clips and photos and what not, my computer started doing weird things. the crashes are never consistent, sometimes the screen goes black, sometimes it freezes, sometimes i get a blue screen, and sometimes i can't even start the thing. i tried freeing up some space on my computer but no luck. now i can't even watch a Internet video without it crashing. so:
a) if i have no memory left on the computer, does this affect how it runs? when it was extremely full i wouldn't even be able to view pictures and stuff, but i have 2.5 gb left on c right now so i can view pictures but i can't even watch a Internet video or run 2 or 3 tabs at once b) i downloaded my os off the internet, but it's never given me any problems. could this be buggy? c) my old os is on the d drive and it takes up a lot of space, can i delete it to free up space? is it a good idea to? d) do i need a ram upgrade? i really don't even know how much i have, it says 2 gb ddr2 memory if that means anything. at idle it runs at about 57%
New dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and also ~5 different processes than PE, and PE lists some processes running that TM doesn't list. So PE and TM show different running processes at the same time. How can that be? For the processes that PE shows "error opening", e.g., crss, etc., when I click properties in TM for the same process, sometimes I get the usual/normal pop-up window listing the path, and all the other data as normal, suggesting the process is working properly. But sometimes when I click properties in TM for the processes that PE shows "error opening", I get no pop-up at all, nothing for that process. So, IMO, it's not just a PE glitch, something is actually wrong here. This is a new machine, with PE the only 3rd party installation. I have installed several dell driver updates, but this problem occurred before I installed them. Also, remember PE and TM simultaneously list some different running processes and TM also fails to show paths, etc.
My brand new computer I just built is crashing and restarting without a reason I can find. My System health report won't be very accurate because I need to run OCCT stress test in the background to slow down the amount of times it crashes.
I have run memtest for 12 hours - No errors. My CPU is cooled by a H100 - temps never go above 40c even under load. CPU - i5 - 2500k MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 PSU - Antec 750w
Even on a fresh install it will crash during the setup phase, like where you put in product code and username. Leading me to think its a Hardware issue.
I am currently experiencing consistent restarting of Windows Explorer on my PC. To find out the error which is causing this, I need to access task manager, which is also unavailable (greyed out when I right click on the task bar). By accessing the task manager, I hoped to stop the windows explorer process.
I am getting the error Windows explorer has stopped working then Windows Explorer is restarting whenever i try to restart my laptop and there is nothing i can do because of that error, because the error keep popping on my screen. I have no idea what to do because i have tried to restore my computer but no changes.
[code] I've newly installed Windows 7 and updated SP1 and other updates via windows update. Everything was working find until the explorer restarted and continued. I restarted PC to see if it will be solved but didn't. I've tried restarting with various services other than that of Microsoft disabled and even unistalled some programs like Norton 360 but didn't solve the problem. The explorer.exe keeps on restarting again and again. However, no such problem exits while running in safe mode. Reinstalling windows is my last option.
My Laptop (Dell XPS M1530), Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit, boots up ok, but Explorer keeps restarting every 30 seconds, tried system restore, going back 5/6 points, no change, is there any way of uninstalling a program from safe mode command line?., I want to try and uninstall my Firewall (Kaspersky) as I read somewhere else this may be the problem?
A friend of mine is having troubles with his Explorer.exe, cmd is not working as admin even though he is an admin. Restarts occur after 10 seconds of logon boot. Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate.
I've got a laptop with windows home premium 64 bit installed on it and I use it for gaming a lot. It's high spec and there's usually no problem but I've been having problems with guild wars 2.Basically the game crashes a lot. When it crashes, I end the application in task manager but if you go to the processes tab the process is still there and clicking end process or end process tree doesn't close it down. The game won't restart while this is hanging so I have to reboot the laptop. It's getting very annoying and is happening a couple of times a day. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Is there a way to kill processes quickly or does anyone know what I can do to stop the crashes full stop?I've tried opening task manager and closing the application then closing down the process which doesn't work. I tried ending the process first before ending the application but that still closes down the application and leaves the process hanging. I've tried to end the process in the cmd line but it still leaves the process hanging or if I do it before ending the application it just closes the application and leaves the process hanging.
My laptop was getting the BSOD but has stopped and is now just constantly freezing and windows explorer is crashing and restarting which basically I can't do much between the crashes and restarts.
Using an HP G42 laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OS.
Around 15 seconds after booting into Windows, a window pops up 'windows explorer has stopped working..windows is checking for a solution to the problem...'
After a couple of seconds, a window pops up saying Windows Explorer is starting, and then the previous windows pops up again.
I can't access any other programs when this happens. I've tried running in safe mode, and this issue doesn't come up. If done checkdisk, but this hasn't resolved the issue.
am using windows 7 but from today evening onwards, my computer has gone into a loop where it keeps restarting explorer time and again. And am not able to do anything. This problem is present even in safe mode.I tried fixing it by deselecting all the startup user application after using msconfig cmd.in safe mode.I saw a pattern in the startup bar that every time explorer restarts it tries to open network connections. hence i disabled all network services but again same story.
after i deleted the antimalware doctor virus my computer keeps saying that windows explorer has stopped working and has to restart every couple of minute so here is the event view log that i looked at
My com is running on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, and one day I was starting up the com and it took really long to take me to the home screen, so I forced shut down it when the screen was still black (used a no GUI boot). After the restart the message explorer.exe is not responding and it keeps repeating. I've read some other solutions like running the sfc (did it twice) or copy-and-pasting explorer.exe from windows folder to system32 folder all didn't help.
I am currently experiencing consistent restarting (every few seconds) of Windows Explorer on my PC. And this has caused the desktop to be unavailable/inaccessible. I'm desperate . To find out the error which is causing this, I need to access task manager (event viewer), which is also unavailable (greyed out when I right click on the task bar). By accessing the task manager, I hoped to stop the windows explorer process so that I can at least access to my school project. I cannot afford to reload the OS (Windows 7 Pro) as this will affect my school project.
The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.
Everytime I attempt to click on something on my desktop or taskbar, etc it says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" but luckily I can double click and open firefox.Whenever I try to right click something or open an explorer window it says this and gives me this:
I have been getting a lot of windows explorer crashes lately. I use C cleaner and malware bytes to keep clean. I also uses Avast for Virus scanner. I installed Hijack this but can't seem to get a log file out of it. There is a message that alerts me to change something in hosts. I can't find a a way to run a command line like previous windows versions.
I am using Windows 7 Home Edition (SP1), 64-bit, on an ASUS G75V laptop. Frequently, when clicking on a file, Windows Explorer crashes. These are the details of the problem as shown by the window that opens up when Explorer crashes:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: explorer.exe
A couple days ago I left for a trip with the family and did my routine shut off and unplugging of all electronics in the house (few years ago a lightning strike while I was away took out my washer and dryer). As soon as I came home and booted up my computer it was apparent something was wrong. After taking 15 minutes to load no matter what I clicked several seconds later an error message would appear saying that windows explorer had crashed leaving my desktop devoid of icons and not letting me do anything. After about 30 minutes windows explorer would reboot only to crash once anything was clicked. I attempted to run malware bytes and super antivirus but nothing would load and after waiting for a while windows explorer would crash once again. I attempted to use cntl+alt+delete to use the "new task" button to reboot windows explorer but as soon as task manager appears, windows explorer crashes. Following the next course of action I rebooted the computer in safe mode along with safe mode only to have windows explorer crash right after I clicked on anything. As a last resort I pressed the "window's repair" only to wait 15 hours and come up with nothing?
I saw this many times and there is a quick fix for some. You see Windows 7 x64 actually uses System32 explorer.exe and not SysWOW64. This is a problem because there is no explorer.exe in System32 (least not for me).
I recently purchased a used computer and i have had some issues. i re installed the OS Windows 7 home prem. ran hirens on the machine no errors in cpu or memory.. then when i let it run for a while browse the web or watch a movie the windows explorer will stop working and the window pops up trying to find solution after this happens it either BSOD with errors like Irql_not_less_or_equal....other error codes i have found are 0x0000001A and 0x00000024..and the most recent memory_management.. the crashes are all random its not like it happens after loading a certain program
I downloaded some movies and I wanted to watch them on my tv so I went to my downloads folder to copy the movies to my videos folder, however when I tried to click on the folder Windows Explorer just crashed. I have tried changing the thumbnails and that worked to an extent as I am now able to actually get into the folder but when I click on the video files windows explorer still crashes. I tried looking online for some solutions and thought it may have been a virus so I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes and it came up with nothing.
