Explorer Randomly Crashing And Restarting?
Aug 24, 2010
I'm new here and I've been having some problems with explorer crashing. I've searched all over the net including various forums and while I've found cases similar to mine none of them are quite like it. For instance, explorer will crash and ask for me to restart it randomly. It's not the right-click crash like some have had, I've checked my registry for a machine throttling string that caused some people crashes, but mine will just happen out of the blue, usually (but not always) when I have an explorer window open. The crash itself doesn't effect much. All my programs will continue to run as normal so it's not a huge deal, it's just annoying as it will happen sporadically throughout the day. I've ran various spyware, malware, and virus scans all to no avail and I've even used a registry cleaner. I've also tried running sfc /scannow in the command prompt as an administrator. I've rebooted several times since and it still happens. I can't reproduce it, it just happens out of nowhere, but here's the error.

I upgraded from Vista to 7 back in September & other than the *random & occasional* crash of Windows Explorer, & I've been very happy with 7. Until last night.I was in the middle of (trying to) clean up & organize my video folders. Everything was going pretty smoothly until I tried to cut an .mkv & paste it to my desktop temporarily. As soon as I right-clicked on the file, Windows Explorer crashed. That was the first time it had happened in a week or so. After everything restarted, I tried again & I was able to cut & paste the mkv.

My Windows Explorer keeps crashing and restarting. When I checked the Event Log, it has apparently been doing this randomly since I had the software installed (replacing my Windows XP) 10 months ago. However, it is happening more frequently now. For the most part, the errors all refer to a 'timeout' when waiting for a response from different services. Latest error: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the SftService service.

just got myself a new laptop and windows explorer is constantly crashing/restarting when I browse or use the explorer in any way. Examples are when I browse around, click save as (which crashes also the program, a big issue for me) or even when I installed the windows SDK just now it crashed 5 times during the installation.I searched around a little, but so far no luck. I tried: - Running Safe-Mode (problem persists) - Do a cleanboot - do a virus check - copy explorer.exe from c:/windows to c:/windows/system32 - Update all drivers.- uninstall firefox OperatingSystemMS Windows7HomePremium64-bit SP1InstallationDate:28October2011,23:58CPU IntelCore i7 @2.00GHz SandyBridge32nmTechnologyRAM 16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @665MHz(9-9-9-24) Motherboard ASUSTeKComputerInc. My brand new computer I just built is crashing and restarting without a reason I can find. My System health report won't be very accurate because I need to run OCCT stress test in the background to slow down the amount of times it crashes.
I have run memtest for 12 hours - No errors.
My CPU is cooled by a H100 - temps never go above 40c even under load.
CPU - i5 - 2500k
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
PSU - Antec 750w
Even on a fresh install it will crash during the setup phase, like where you put in product code and username. Leading me to think its a Hardware issue.

i've been running windows 7 on my computer ever since i found out i need a higher bit os to run my movie editing programs. as i filled up my c drive and d drive with clips and photos and what not, my computer started doing weird things. the crashes are never consistent, sometimes the screen goes black, sometimes it freezes, sometimes i get a blue screen, and sometimes i can't even start the thing. i tried freeing up some space on my computer but no luck. now i can't even watch a Internet video without it crashing. so:
a) if i have no memory left on the computer, does this affect how it runs? when it was extremely full i wouldn't even be able to view pictures and stuff, but i have 2.5 gb left on c right now so i can view pictures but i can't even watch a Internet video or run 2 or 3 tabs at once
b) i downloaded my os off the internet, but it's never given me any problems. could this be buggy?
c) my old os is on the d drive and it takes up a lot of space, can i delete it to free up space? is it a good idea to?
d) do i need a ram upgrade? i really don't even know how much i have, it says 2 gb ddr2 memory if that means anything. at idle it runs at about 57%

I recently built a computer with the following specs

I know that this subject has been brought up a few times, but nothing seems to work for me. My power supply is a Corsair 650w, is that the problem? The person who sold me the parts told me that it should work.I have checked the software and it does not seem like the problem. My computer restarts every hour or so, there is no warning before the restart nor any thing after the restart, its really starting to annoy me.

so my computer is starting to randomly restart and I'm not sure why. I thought it was my video card and switched to the integrated video card and pulled out my other one and I still get it. I tried a memtest and got no errors also.no heating issues at all. speedfan showed nothing overheating. ( I have 4 fans installed) now the problem I'm wondering is a MB short or the PSU. I tried enabling BSOD but it just reboots. it just started happening today.

It started about a week ago and it is currently happening mabye once or twice a day. Some times it can go 8 hours without restarting. Or it will restart 10 minutes after turning it on.I wasnt getting any error msgs or anything, It doesnt freeze or no blue screen. Just shuts off and restarts. I unchecked the restart automatically button and last time it crashed the screen froze and made a constant beeping sound (more of a crashing beeping sound I guess). no errors popped up though. Is there a way to check the crash log so i can see an error msg or somthing?I Downloaded Everest to check my CPU's temp and it stays under 65 C. Other than this my laptop runs fine. I took out the ram seperatly and re seated it and tried running the computer and it worked fine with both ram sticks. I blew out the dust from the fan/vent a few days ago. I got a lot of dust out and its cooler but seems like its crashing more often tbh

My computer started restarting randomly about 2 weeks ago and this problem is getting more frequent now. I don't get any BSOD and the event viewer will log only "Event ID 41 - Kernel-Power". My computer just turn off as if I had a power-loss and then turn on again. The strange is that it's totally random. I can play games for more than 2 hours ou run a stress test for 3 hours without restarting but I can turn on the computer and when browsing the internet for 5 minutes it will restart. I have made a lot of research on the internet but didn't any relevant information but a PSU problem.

my windows 7 home premium computer keeps randomly crashing, no matter if it is just idle or I'm playing a game. The computer will restart randomly, go to a blue screen that informs me that it is dumping a physicl cache or something, and then go to the log-in screen. Sorry for not searching further on my matter, but an ipad is really inconvienient for in-depth searches.[CODE]

My friend recently (in the past month) bought a refurbished Dell computer from Wal-Mart. Everything seems to work fine. The problem she is having with it is that when she does 'shut-down' for the night it randomly restarts. No set amount of time just it restarts. They keep the PC in the bedroom so it wakes them up. We have added nothing which would cause this problem. I went to 'automatic restart after crash' and unchecked it as suggested and that did not work.

ever since I reinstalled windows 7 a while back Ive been having problems with my computer randomly freezing up and then restarting. It usually does this when I am surfing the net or watching a HD video 720p or above. Sometimes just before it restarts it will mention something about reference memory. I notice my computer also restarts when I leave it sit for a while but it almost seems random.

If I unplug the power cord on my laptop before I shut it down, then when I turn it back on the system date time is set to a random date (e.g., 1655). This is the only thing that works.
1. Shut down laptop (while plugged in)
2. Remove the battery (while still plugged in)
3. Unplug power cord (then when I want to turn it back on)
4. Plug in power cord first
5. Reattach battery
6. Restart computer
(Either that or leave the power cord connected all the time, but that defeats the whole purpose of being portable!) I bought a new battery. Replaced the CMOS battery. That didn't work either.

I've got a relatively new custom PC (around 3 months old) and I have problems with it. It was put together by the same shop that sold the parts. It recently started to crash constantly at seemingly random times. Sometimes it would run fine for 5 days without any issues, at other times it would crash once every day for a few days. Even the cause isn't always the same. It would either give me a BSoD or simply shut down without any message and restart itself.

i've somewhat recently built myself a new gaming rig due to my old system being horribly outdated and unreliable and from day one of using the new computer i've had some problems with crashing.basically, the computer crashes at least once per day and is seemingly undetectable as to when this happens, the only thing intensifying the crashing seems to be streaming videos online, ie. Internet, facebook, dailymotion videos etc.a friend of mine had compiled the list of parts that i would use to build the computer, and also did the majority of assembling (which i cannot notice any problems with by looking at the inside of the tower). this same friend, after hearing about constant crashing problems and unreliability as to when it would crash had suggested a problem with the system's memory, but after swapping out hdd's and even installing an ssd? here is a list of my system specs.
corsair 8gb ram
western digital 2tb internal hdd
ocz agility 60gb ssd (boot disc)
win7 ultimate 32-bit os
lite-on dvd drive
intel core i5 2500k processor
asus geforce gtx 560 directcu ii top 1024mb video card

I am getting really tired of my computer crashing constantly. The main concerns are: ntoskrnl.exe, atikmdag.sys and dxgmms1.sys. I have fresh installed four times, updated all of my drivers and DirectX, too. Nothing helped. I have send my PC back to it's manufacturer 2 times, and they said it was fine. I have also run Windows Memory Diagnostics without any errors. It happens randomly, even though what I am doing on my computer (work, games, surfing the interwebs etc.

I am currently experiencing consistent restarting of Windows Explorer on my PC. To find out the error which is causing this, I need to access task manager, which is also unavailable (greyed out when I right click on the task bar). By accessing the task manager, I hoped to stop the windows explorer process.
