I am looking for a way to avoid the propmt or application list that pops up upon clicking a .pdc file. I would like to fix a default application to be the one to open all my .pdc files.
I would like to make this change through a registry entry preferably. Even a script solution is fine. I want to do this via modifications to registry or by running a script. I want these settings on my client machines, so there is no question of right clicking. These are silent steps. I am looking for preferably a VB Script that when run sets a default file opener for an extension.
i was wondering if my registry was good/defauly because about 5 months ago a friend of mine was messing with my pc since i tried to downgrade to wmp 11 since i didnt like wmp12. he had trouble doing it it and i don't know if he saved the regitry once he changed it or not.

W7 x64 ult OS. Something went wrong.My system will no longer boot - the error message lists registry corrupt. I am 99% sure it is not a virus.I have another drive with a W7 system on it in the same box and I can boot from that.It is just a basic clean install test system, but I can access all the drives.Is there a backup registry file I can use to replace the corrupt one........and which files are the registry?Is there anything else to do to recover othere than a clean install?I can't do a repair install because it has to boot to the system first.Unless. Can I do a repair install on the bad drive from a boot to the good drive?
I have a program which tries to write data to %windir%. I can make this program work if I open Windows Task Manager, right click the program's process and check the "UAC Virtualization". However, I dont want to do this every time I run the program, so is there a way to auto-enable the virtualization for this program?
I can't seem to get this to work: Code :Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareWow6432NodeBlahBlah]"Installed Path"="BlahBlahBlah" If I delete the key and run the reg file, it recreates it, but it won't create the "Installed Path" string value. I guess I'm doing something wrong, but I can't imagine what since I'm using the same format that I've seen everywhere online. Running Windows 7 64-bit.
Previous suggestions for removing residual file names from "Save/Save As" dialog boxes involve deleting the following two keys from Registry (complete paths/strings omitted from this thread inquiry):
"LastVisitedPidlMRU", and
"OpenSavePidlMRU"
I noticed though that, in addition to those two keys in that Registry location, there is another & similar key entitled "LastVisitedPidlMRULegacy".
1) Is it advisable to also delete that third "...Legacy" key as well, and if not, why not?
2) What is the function of that third "...Legacy" key?
So, I was having problems with my .dat file type icon, and in frustration trying to get rid of the icon and start all over again, I deleted the file type in the registry. Will this cause problems in the future, even though I re-added it in the registry? I don't see any problems with them right now, but I didn't know if I might have troubles in the future due to this.
I know how to disable windows 7 defender, manually and through registry, but here I need a patch or registry file that can disable windows 7 defender by simply double clicking on that. Where to download it from or if there is a quick way to create such file?
I upgraded from Vista Business to Seven Home Premium. Used Office 2007 in Vista and using it in Seven. In Vista, my .pst file was C:OutlookMyOutlookFolder.pst. Added it to Outlook using Data File Management, but none of my calendar entries appeared (my inbox and all my other folders are OK). When I upgraded from XP to Vista, this worked fine.Where are my Calendar entries?
installing Windows 7 on a virtual machine.I have 178MB RAM (which I know isn't enough), but it does the Starting Windows screen before the installation, but then it comes up with this error: File: windowssystem32configsystem Status: 0xc0000001 Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt.
I've unistalled Amd Driver from Device Manager, Unistalled Catalyst software and ran Driver Sweeper. There is only 3 registeries that the Driver Sweeper CAN'T delete and these are under SYSTEM folder. I've tried to change user privilegies but this far I've not succeeded.
While windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? I changed the default program used to open RAR files from 7Zip to Windows Explorer, and now I can't change it back, When I right-click on a RAR file and click Properties, the "Change..." option isn't there to the right of "Opens with:" And when I go to Start > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program, RAR files don't appear in the list.

HUsually the first option at the top of the right-click menu is 'Open' but for some reason mine has 'cmd' at the top instead.Whenever I try to open file folders with just a click, the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
I open the WIndows 7 file manager by right-clicking on the start button and then choosing Open Windows Explorer. It always defaults to Libraries, but I would rather it defaulted to C: Is there a way to change this?
I have spent the last couple of hours going through each GPO setting to disable as many features for my kids account on Windows 7 ultimate. I saved the file as kids.msc. The only issue is that I want to be able to clear these settings when needed, so that i can fully access the features. I could not find any options in GPO that allows you to reset the settings back to default...
I read a couple threads on trying to change the default outlook account from POP to IMAPI realize it is not that easy to do, I have tried to do it by just deleting the pop account and setting up a new one but that does not work.When I try to change the default data file it is grayed out.

I have my computer hooked up to a home theater system. Most of the time, my computer audio output is set to my on-board motherboard audio connected to simple speakers, but I frequently switch the default device to digital output through my sound card (HTO Striker 7.1). My goal is to create a file that I can keep on the desktop that will switch the default audio device. In a perfect world, it would switch back and forth between the 2 settings that I use, but I understand that it might be too much to ask for. I have a bit of experience with batch files in XP, but that was essentially reverse-engineering things that I found online.
i have a folder on my external drive with lots of subfolders and files inside ful of work i need to get at. but for some reason all of the permissions on that folder and its subfiles are denying me access. i can see the files and folders but i cannot open the files. i can go into every folder but again i just cannot to open any file.
inteli7 - 16gig ram - Ocz 60 OS boot drive - 600gig sata 3 Velociraptor. I want my apps on the spindle drive - But Noooo windows does not want me to do that. Changes to registry are not supported, links and junctions and other suggestions seem more hassle that its worth. Should I just screw it and install 64bit XP? If I decide to give in what i can partition the 600gig and use that- 120 gig ok for the OS?
