I would like to set the default folder view to be set to details, and control panel view set to small icons. I would like this set for the default user profile. What the relevant registry entries are ?

View 0 Replies View RelatedA twist on the creation of user folders on a drive other than C: in Win 7 Ultimate. Does anyone know if one could designate a user folder location such as E:Data instead of using the users name and being a subdirectory of "Users". I am the ONLY one on my computer - and it would seem much easier to look to the top folder in the E drive than clicking thru E:, users, name, documents, project. I fully realize that I can set up shortcuts, but when you are in an application that wants to place a file somewhere else and presents you with an explorer windows it is a pain. The only method I thought of is using redirection with symbolic links.

I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

View 0 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I can't view anything that is under the control panel as well as the control panel itself. I can open everything else fine such as pics, music, games, videos. But anything that has to with the control panel I can't see. The task bar says the folder is open but I see nothing.I have tried the following: ran sfc, it says nothing is wrong, tried to create a new user account, but I can't since it falls under the control panel. I tried to create a new user account through the guest account (I was able to make it an administrator) but it says I can't create a new account with special characters such as $=- etc... I didn't use any special characters at all so I don't know why it's saying that. It seems to me that this is a registry problem, and I'm a little uncomfortable with the registry and don't like to mess with it at all. Worse comes to worse I'm going to try to reinstall windows

I managed to create an administrator's account which is visible but I can't see the other user accounts at login or in the user accounts control panel. I've activated and verified that the missing user accounts are active by using net user "username" /active:yes command prompt. The user's folder's are still on the hard drive

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince windows 98, We have always been able to do the first time logon, setup all the applications, desktop settings, IE settings, everything, with a 'profile' user. We then rebooted the machine, logged on as administrator and Deleted the contents of the 'default user' folder and copied that 'profile' user sub folders into the 'default user' folder. We would then reset the permissions on that, 'default user' and all the sub folders of the 'default user' folder to allow access. This way when ANY user logs into the machine all the settings are as they should be rather than having to go through them all again from the beginning each and every time a FTL (first time logon) occurs.
It is also very good when a profile becomes corrupted and you have to start over. When I try this in windows 7 64bit I've now messed it up so that any new user that logs in gets an error message saying they've been logged in with temporary profile and all changes will be lost when log out. Although, all the setting seem to be there. So I'm just missing the something that tells windows 7 this new default is ok. Can this still be done? What are the steps now? What has changed and how do we accomplish this, at one time, simple task? {I have done this successfully with Vista 32 bit} .

Is it difficult to configure all user's profile and folders (Documents Pictures ect.) to be created on another drive or partition? I know I can just create new folders with these name and store my files on another drive ( that's what I have done for years).
This means I have to ignore the folders designed for my account. Even doing it this way programs by default drop stuff in the default folders. I want to create a lean C: drive. I assume this is a registry edit. I am getting ready to clean install WIN7 PRO. If this is possible can anyone tell me how?

I wonder how to configure the location of "My Documents", so that all users have only their personal files on drive of personal files. In Windows Explorer changed in each of the users the location of the Documents, Music, Video and Pictures.
- After changed the location of the folders above, there is still the same folders in C:users , and there are user settings that are there defined, eg Desktop, in C:Users. Is there any way to move all settings and folders to another drive?
- Is there any way to do this operation automatic? for future users I will have to repeat the same operation, how can I indicate that all future users will have their settings and documents specified in this specific drive?
I installed some applications and found that some applications did not demand that the location where it was set to be installed the application, having been installed in C:users and C:Program Files, intended that all applications (except for windows and Office) were installed in drive applications. How do I specify that this is the default drive for installation applications? Keeping the installations of Windows + Office in this drive. Applications installed by the administrator are available for all users or must be given access to other users ? How done? In the drive file, which should contain the users and shared files, meant that each user only gets access their documents and shared. Where and how can make this configuration?
i deleted my user profile to solve a problem of win7 locking up. now i realize i deleted 20 years of my kids pictures and my wife's documents. i ran a system restore but it did not restore the pics and docs. Are these recoverable?

As you can see it's nothing to do with Libraries. Neither the 'Shell Fix' nor editing the registry at

If I delete a folder in one, the folder is deleted in the other. The second folder is named "Test". For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. Following a problem with the initial install attempt, I'm trying to re-install LotusSuite 9.8.2 but the previous attempt seems to have resulted in some "Lotus" registry entries that now direct things to a non-existent "F" drive. When I try to re-install from the CD, it doesn't allow me the option of choosing the destination location. Instead, it automatically tries to install in this non-existent drive. I've opened RegEdit and searched and found many references to Lotus and to F:Lotus.
How can I edit the registry to get rid of the F:Lotus entries or change them to C: ? Or just get rid of all references to Lotus? BTW, this software works perfectly on my Win 7 laptop.
My CD/DVD-Rom drive is unresponsive (it opens and closes normally) and does not show up on Device Manager.I read a guide that suggested that I have corrupted registry entries. It told me to delete UpperFilters and LowerFilters.I deleted the two entries (and possibly others in the same location).

I recently installed a crap copy of Adobe CS5 that I was told was good, and would like to install a new one but have been told that I might want to delete any traces of the old copy before proceeding, this includes deleting any entries that have been made in the registry.
