I have a folder that mirrors my user profile in Windows. It is not a shortcut, but an exact duplicate which will cause any changes in either to be affected in sync. If I delete a folder in one, the folder is deleted in the other. The second folder is named "Test". I am unable to change the name on the duplicate profile and it does not show up when I access User Accounts.
View 1 RepliesI am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.
On Windows 7 that I am having here I have number of users using it and they have their account as well on it. Well that is not the issue there. Now I have seen that when the user tries to login to the account he can see a message saying that the user profile is not loaded correct manner. After that it just gets the user logged in an account. After seeing the login I have seen that Windows make the loggin for that user in with a temporary profile.

Does anyone know if one could designate a user folder location such as E:Data instead of using the users name and being a subdirectory of "Users". I am the ONLY one on my computer - and it would seem much easier to look to the top folder in the E drive than clicking thru E:, users, name, documents, project. I fully realize that I can set up shortcuts, but when you are in an application that wants to place a file somewhere else and presents you with an explorer windows it is a pain. The only method I thought of is using redirection with symbolic links.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my friends laptop, when she boots it up, it gets to the log-on screen and instead of having her account there, it's just the blank blue background and it doesn't say the Windows 7 bit at the bottom of the screen or have the shut down/sleep mode options and the cursor is in the middle of the screen, but it's not the normal cursor, it's larger and looks like the cursor from older versions of Windows. It is also frozen in place, and you can't move it. And when you close her laptop, it stays on instead of going black. We've tried looking it up already, but it's either just people having similar problems on other operating systems or people who are only missing some user accounts and can still log in on one. We're pretty sure it can't be a virus, because she scans her PC regularly with Avast, MalwareBytes, SUPERAntiSpyware and Spybot. (She also has McAfee, which came with her PC and when she tried to uninstall it, it made her computer bluescreen and then start frequently bluescreening randomly for a while, but soon stop)

Is it difficult to configure all user's profile and folders (Documents Pictures ect.) to be created on another drive or partition? I know I can just create new folders with these name and store my files on another drive ( that's what I have done for years).
This means I have to ignore the folders designed for my account. Even doing it this way programs by default drop stuff in the default folders. I want to create a lean C: drive. I assume this is a registry edit. I am getting ready to clean install WIN7 PRO. If this is possible can anyone tell me how?
i deleted my user profile to solve a problem of win7 locking up. now i realize i deleted 20 years of my kids pictures and my wife's documents. i ran a system restore but it did not restore the pics and docs. Are these recoverable?

For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.

i am using windows 7. i have never been able to create any accounts other than my administrator account & the one account i use for all my general computer use. i have been using norton 360 with no problems. i have resorted to just using any "log in/log out' links on all the sites my husband wants to use.i am really not all that confident doing anything super technical to fix this, since i don't have a real understanding of different extensions or types of files. i am afraid i could really mess everything up really bad. but, it would just be SO MUCH EASIER & FASTER if i had my account & my husband had his own account.
My wife's Dell desktop (after a nighttime thunderstorm) will not permit her to log on. When she enters the password she gets the following message: "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

View 14 Replies View RelatedA month or so ago I noticed I could not listen to Cartalk (A PBS radio show) online when I always could before. Tried to troubleshoot. Reset IE8 and still no joy. It works just fine with Google Chrome so I know it is related to IE8.
Just created a new account (standard vs. my admin) and of course I can listen just fine on that account. Again tried to troubleshoot. Looked at add-ons. Made them identical, still no joy. Once again completely reset IE8 and still nothing.
So why would the website work just fine with the standard account and not my admin account? This is driving me crazy. I know I can use the standard account or chrombut I really want to know why this is happening.

Login works fine, but icons are all generic and windows explorer turns up the "page failed to load" error. In contrast, my regular admin acct works perfectly. I noticed this after a hard shutdown but am unsure there is a connection. I performed a system restore from an earlier restore point from before the unsafe shutdown but no luck.

The main Admin account is basically untouched and can be overwritten in the case of any conflicts.My current account is also an Administrator account. I'm trying to move it to the main one to be able to bypass the login screen. My computer suddenly tells me it can't open my pictures on one of my user accounts by asking what file do I want to use to open it or to go online to search for an opening file. I tried to start a new user account, and I'm told I need to tell what file I want to use to complete and open this account.
I can't login in Guest user. My administrator account is working properly and without any problems, but my guest account doesn't. When I login to that account then its automatically logging off and coming back to the login Screen.I created standard user, but anyway I can't login there. When I click the icon it automatically logs off.
