View 1 Replies View RelatedBy default, Windows' 7's Control Panel broadly groups its options, tucking the nitty-gritty stuff you might be looking for into very general categories. You can, however, create a shortcut that lists all your Control Panel options in one list.
View 0 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I can't view anything that is under the control panel as well as the control panel itself. I can open everything else fine such as pics, music, games, videos. But anything that has to with the control panel I can't see. The task bar says the folder is open but I see nothing.I have tried the following: ran sfc, it says nothing is wrong, tried to create a new user account, but I can't since it falls under the control panel. I tried to create a new user account through the guest account (I was able to make it an administrator) but it says I can't create a new account with special characters such as $=- etc... I didn't use any special characters at all so I don't know why it's saying that. It seems to me that this is a registry problem, and I'm a little uncomfortable with the registry and don't like to mess with it at all. Worse comes to worse I'm going to try to reinstall windows

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis question is exactly what I am looking for, I think, but I do not understand the answer.I can give two examples of times when I should be able to send an email from a program but instead get an error message that no email program is associated and I should create an association through Default Programs. One example is in the program Living Cookbook from Radison Technologies. I should be able to email a recipe to a friend right from the application.Another example is the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) website. Committee members don't have email addresses that I can see and copy; instead, they have live links showing only the person's name, which I am supposed to click on to bring up and email already addressed and ready to compose. For me, it only brings up the no email association message.I understand a little about file associations and know, when installing a program, to watch out for them......... however, I cannot figure out to use the Default Programs to make the required
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have written a batch file (e.g.aaa.bat) which can take several paramters and runs fine as long as I enter the start command at the command prompt e.gaaaa.bat -start -logIn order to avoid always having to enter manually this command I created a shortcut to this batch file and placed it in the SAME directory and added once the desired parameters. The shortcut properties look like now:Target: D:proj2 est2011aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: D:proj2est2011This works fine as well. Now the problem comes: I want to make these batch file and its shortcut portable. That means users should be abel to copy both files (batch + shortcut) on their computer in an indiviual different directory and be able to start the shortcutted batch file WITHOUT adjustments as well.
BUT this does not work because "Target" and "STarted in" most problably have a different path (e.g. C:evalproj ask23).My first approaches to solve this problems were to omit the path like in:Target: aaaa.bat -start -logStart in: .But this does not help. If I try to apply the settings above for the shortcut I got an error popup:"The name aaa.bat' specified in the target box is not valid"Hmm, how do I specify in the shortcut=SAME DIRECTORY AS CURRENT SHORTCUT FILE otherwise?
I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 11/13/10. Since then, I've not been able to create an association for e-mail. I use Gmail. I've tried every so called solution I can find through every forum, to no avail. Would I be safe to restore my email association by clicking on the previous versions in the email properties backup from the 11/13/10 upgrade>
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Win7 Home Premium64. When I try to create a screen shot, I use "print screen" , then open "Paint" and select "paste". The desired image appears but from that point on I can't copy and paste into gmail. I would like to send the screen shot via email using my Gmail Application.
The message I'm getting is: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action and that I need to "create an association in the default program control panel".
I have no idea about how to create that association in the default control panel. As far as I can see, the image that has been pasted in "Paint" is a PNG file. I have looked through all of the settings in gmail but can't find any place to "create that association".
When I go to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsNotification Area Icons dialog then there are a lot of programs which are already uninstalled.
How can I cleanup/delete all these useless entries? How can I delete ONE single entry manually?
Second question: Assume I want to hide icons and notification for mutiple/all entries (here approx 40 items) in ONE STEP.
Third question: How can I save/backup the current notification settings (for later restore) into a file? Are these notifcation settings stored in a certain branch of the Registry (which exactly) ?
Previously there were no issues in opening PDF files using AR. Then I could not open PDF files. I uninstalled and reinstalled AR twice I forced W7 to associate PDF files with AR I drank 7 cups of coffee while considering an alternate calling in life - perhaps an island without computers None of the above has helped. I still cannot open PDF files on this machine. I have not purchased the tickets to the computer-free island as yet s
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem trying to change the program associated with a particular file extension. I was trying out different programs to find out how they could handle that particular file type, setting them as the default program and trying to open the file. But after setting the default to one program in particular, it seemed to "lock" the file type,This is true only for that particular file extention, all other extensions have this option enabled and the association can be changed. If I open the default programs control panel, and try to choose a different program to be associated with that particular extension, the entry does not change after choosing the program and clicking "OK" - it stays at the previous setting.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have been attempting to open some .exe files but keep on getting the message 'not a vaild win32 application'. A scan with Super Anti spyware shows the following - System Broken File Association HKCR\.exe. I am assuming that something is wrong with the .exe link. I have checked the list of defaults and noticed that the .exe default was missing. I have also tried some fixes which appear to attempt to change the registry, but these have not worked. Do i need to manually change some registry content?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to Control panel->Default programs->Associate a file type with a program and changed the association to file .BAT to explore.exe.Now, when I click on a bat file with the mouse, the whole desktop starts shaking. I think it goes into a loop. The problem, when I go back to Controlpanel-> Default programs->Associate a file type with a program. The extension .BAT is no longer there! It is gone. And when I examine the file property of some .bat file, there is no option to change what to open it with. There is no open with... only OPEN option. There is also no way to add a new file extension in Control panel->Default programs->Associate a file type. I can't add .bat again.I did Control panel->Default programs->Set progream access and computer defaults but still the .bat file association is broken, and when I double click on it, same thing happens. Now when I right click on a .BAT file from exploer, I also do not see the EDIT option any more.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAt work i use 2 different PDF viewing software. One is Adobe for editing and the other is Foxit for quick viewing. They have their pros and cons and so I use them interchangeably. For some work I will use Foxit for several hours at a time and only open something in Adobe on an as needed basis using the right click "open with" context. The opposite is true, for some work I use Adobe for hours and then use Foxit as needed with "open with" context.I want a registry file or some application that will enable me to simply double click on it and KNOW that my file association for PDF is now Foxit (or Adobe depending on what batch or registry file I double click on).I see there is "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent Version ExplorerFileExts.pdf" which changes when I edit the file association in control panel. It does update, but I can't manually change the "UserChoice" Progid item. It changes only through file association in control panel.I realize there are some in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT but they don't update when i update it in file association in Control panel.I don't know what to do or where else to look.It is tedious to have to go to the control panel -> file association manually.

When I put a DVD movie in my computer, right-click it and choose 'Play', I get the message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action."Until recently, Windows Media Player would play the movie.
