View 1 RepliesI've unistalled Amd Driver from Device Manager, Unistalled Catalyst software and ran Driver Sweeper. There is only 3 registeries that the Driver Sweeper CAN'T delete and these are under SYSTEM folder. I've tried to change user privilegies but this far I've not succeeded.

The problem this causes is that when i update the brand new windows 7 i just bought and i install then restart the computer so they can take effect ( Graphics Update ) After the Starting Windows Page my screen goes into sleep mode but i hear the starting windows noise. The computer technician told me "Just 149.99$ to fix this problem in one session" which makes me think i am really getting ripped off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to avoid the propmt or application list that pops up upon clicking a .pdc file. I would like to fix a default application to be the one to open all my .pdc files.
I would like to make this change through a registry entry preferably. Even a script solution is fine. I want to do this via modifications to registry or by running a script. I want these settings on my client machines, so there is no question of right clicking. These are silent steps. I am looking for preferably a VB Script that when run sets a default file opener for an extension.
Enable or Disable, either or and one can figure the other, but Enable or Disable Drag and Drop of Files/Folders in EXPLORER via the Registry. This is NOT about the desktop, NOT the Internet, Not the StartMenu. That should surely narrow it down i hope
I have a similar post but not for WIndows Xp but not Windows 7 and while I am told its similar for XP/7 I have not found the case..... Vista I am told is slightly different yet. But, I am looking for registry edit/tweak under a similar key such as in the HKCU or HKLM as listed (should be close):
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanc ed
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionPoliciesExplorer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionPoliciesExplorer
Whether I was off on the timing/correation I have tried the following Keys/Subkey names: EnableDragDrop, DisableDragDrop, DragDrop, DragAndDrop....... noe of these seem to have an effect.
I toyed with these but were not any of the issue (or before): HKCUSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settingsones...
I would like to set the default folder view to be set to details, and control panel view set to small icons. I would like this set for the default user profile. What the relevant registry entries are ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhile windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI intend to replace my vista laptop with a windows 7 machine and wondered why I cant just copy the files to a hard drive and then on to the new laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedGot hit with a malware last week, piece of cake to remove. More annoying than anything. Anyway, side effect of it: it hides a bunch of your files so it can do its malware thing. Solution: I unhid everything on my C: to avoid any problems. Being the nutcase that I am, I'd now like to re-hide what was hidden by default from Windows. Anybody know where I could find a list/program to do this for me?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista onto my C drive - I was careful about making sure I didn't do a custom installation because I wanted to keep my files and programs. After the installation - my programs are still installed, the file folders are still there, but the folders on my D drive are empty. My music, photo, video, and document libraries are completely emptyOther threads have said to look in the Windows.old folder but there is no Windows.old folder on my computer. I had a few folders with documents on the desktop that are intact - so why would it delete some files but not others?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to downgrade to vista, (don't ask why) and I was wondering if I will keep the files I already have (images, music, documents) in a Windows.old folder, because I remember having that when I reformatted Windows 7 or something like that. The downgrade to Vista is built in my Samsung notebook (F4 on Startup to repair computer) but I have images/music on this laptop that I can't lose, and I don't have any USB's or hard drives I can use at this moment.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI like many others have a dual boot with Vista and now want to delete it. I have read other threads about using "Startup and Recovery" to remove Windows Vista from the Splash screen and then Formatting that Vista partition.
However I have also read something about Windows 7 using boot files from the Vista partition. How do I no if Windows 7 is doing this or not. I believe Windows 7 is the primary boot OS.
i have all my music files on my desktop using vista. i cannot seem to access these files on my win 7 laptop. they can be accessed via windows media player on the laptop, but thats it. I was attempting to add the music folder to my itunes on my laptop. i have made the music folder public. It can be seen on my xbox as well as my ps3 the network sees the laptop and destop, but when i try to access them they both ask for a user name and password. I have not set any passwords for either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just rebuilt my system -- new motherboard, CPU, memory, HDD and OS. My previous hard drive died. Fortunately, everything was backed up onto a portable hard drive using Windows Backup in Vista.
I went with a new full retail version of 64-bit Windows 7 on my rebuilt system. I now need to create the other User Accounts and restore all our files from the Vista backup. I want to make sure I don't mess things up, so I have two questions:
(1) Is there anything I need to do to make sure my Windows settings don't get messed up when I use that 32-bit Vista backup to restore my files onto my new 64-bit Windows 7 system?
(2) There are 4 user accounts on the backup (mine and 3 others). My account was, of course, created during the installation of W-7. Should I create the other 3 user accounts before running Restore, or do they get created automatically during the restore process?
Does anyone know how do I set the default program to open media files in Windows 7On WinXP it was right click -> open with -> checkmark "set as default program for opening this type of file" -> double click program. I did the same thing on Windows 7 and it has absolutely no effect. I do NOT want to play music/movie files with Windows Media Player, yet every time I try to play any music file (.mp3, .wav, etc), it ALWAYS open with Win Media Player, even though I have clearly set the default program to open these files as something else... same thing applies to movies
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a new desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium. My old desktop is a Vista Home premium and both systems are 64 bit. I bought a program called Laplink PC mover and I want to move all my programs and files from the Vista system to the Win 7 system. Can I do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAs my Vista machine was failing I did a full system backup. I did not do a simple file backup. That machine is now dead. Now I need to move the files within the system backup to my new Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit machine but I'm not finding any way to accomplish this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to restore files from a Vista backup into 7, but, once they're restored I can't find them.
It only affects files that were in the various 'my documents', 'my downloads' etc folders on my Vista install - files from other partitions etc restore fine.
It seems as if the files are definitely being restored somewhere, because if I restore them again I get 'would you like to overwrite these files' dialogs. I've tried searching for the filenames after they're restored but they don't appear. I think maybe it's possible that 7 is restoring them under a different user (although my user name on 7 is the same as it was on Vista).
My computer originally came with Vista. I began to have issues with navigating in "My Computer", as it would often freeze and make it nearly impossible to use at times. I received a free upgrade to Windows 7, which I had hoped would solve my issues. It did not, unfortunately. Is there any way that I could remove all the Vista files from my computer

I have fixed all issues on my registry using Uniblue Registry Booster but still I am unable to open them.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst off, Windows 7 is very cool; I might use it more than vista now that I got internet for it, but that will have to wait for a month or two. My first question is: when I boot up my comp, and I have to pick either vista or Windows 7 (I have Windows 7 on another partition), I usually leave the room while my comp is booting, so after 30 seconds the BIOS picks Windows 7 as the default OS because its first.
I would really like to boot up my pc while doing something else, and I would love for the BIOS to pick Vista after 30 seconds instead of Windows 7 because I use Vista for games and such. Is there some way of doing that or do I have to sit around throughout the start up and manually pick Vista?
My second question seems a little picky or over the edge, but when I boot up my comp and have to pick an OS, it prints "Windows 7" while underneath it it prints out "Microsoft Windows Vista". Is there some way to add 'Microsoft' in front of Windows 7 when Im picking in the BIOS? It doesn't look as good without the Microsoft.
I just noticed my system has a bunch of registry keys as file names on Drive[CODE]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know the best place to post this so please advise me if its in the wrong place. I ran an analysis on my laptop for defrag using auslogics as I haven't done one in a year and it also told me that I had junk files and registry errors etc that I needed to get rid of before defragging. I've run Ccleaner, Glary utilities and advanced systemcare free and it still tells me there are files/errors to get rid of. I don't really want to buy a program atm just to get rid of these if theres a perfectly good free program I can use - does anyone know of anything else other than the ones mentioned that will clear this up? Is it essential that I do

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was originally running just XP Pro (and still use as my main OS) on C:. Installed Vista (didn't activate it yet and it's past 30 days) on Drive G:. Installed Ubuntu on D:. Installed Windows 7 RC1 son S: (in that order). When I start my computer, Windows 7 is the Default OS. I can't change the default OS to XP in Windows 7 (it only gives me the option for Vista).
When I start in XP it shows Windows 7 (7 and xp only options) as default and when I try to select XP as default it jumps right back to 7. I'm thinking I may have to activate my Vista and do it through Vista. [all OS run perfectly no issues at all] Thoughts? Ideas?
Is there a tool to reset to factory settings?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working with I.T. for years, and when I went to a client's last night to share a drive over the network so they can install a program on a secondworkstation and use the database on the original machine. Anyway, sharing this drive shouldn't have taken me more than five minutes. However, I'm encountering problems I've never seen before. The Win7 PC sees the Vista PC on the network, but not any of the shared drives. And when I try to explore the Vista PC from the Win7 PC, I get an errors: ""Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (Vista PC) is not responding."Both PCs are on the same network, obviously, AV software and Windows firewall disabled on both, Homegroup off on Win 7 machine, both machines on same workgroup "WORKGROUP," set with static local IPs/DNS, etc., and both able to access network resources and the internet. One thing I HAVE noticed, however, is that when exploring the network on the Vista PC, I can't see anything (including the Win7 machine,) except the Vista PC itself and the router.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong? I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Even the SFC on the Vista PC didn't find any issues. I've checked the services, and all that should be running are set to Auto, and are started and running. I've looked for hours online, trying every possible option I can find, to no avail. I'm completely stumped! Never in my years in IT have I encountered this.
I got a new laptop but it has windows 7. 1 of the extremely huge problems this operating system has is this absurd thing where you cant arrange your own files in the order that you want.Im not gna waste my time ranting on here as it wont make any difference, but it does astound me that microsoft would employ such thickos who were unable to create an OS that was capable of offering such a basic function! i followed the (this) registry-edit steps lastnight to enable free-positioning of my files (unawave. de/windows-7-tipps/disable-sorting-auto-arrange.html?lang=EN).I did it lastnight and it worked perfectly!I then turned my laptop off as it needed to install its daily updates, but when i restarted it i can no longer move my files around in my pictures/videos/or my music folders!Photo/video files in other folders can still be moved around freely, however as all my pictures and videos are saved by default into those 2 folders this causes me a huge problem!
