May 12, 2012I have windows 7 installed on laptop, i had to install XP on a partition in order to do something i cant in w7, now xp starts..I used to know of a program that could be run from within windows that would let you add OS's to the boot menu and choose a default but i cant remember its name, it was dead simple to use other stuff I see is more complicated, i just want to use that simple little program.

Feb 19, 2012I'm going to preface this with the fact I have a USB headset, is a logitech G35). The way it works is this. I'm playing SWTOR lately, it doesn't have an audio option to choose the audio device. When I played LOTRO, what I would often do is set it to play the audio through the speakers when I was on skype (or vent) so I didn't have to wear my headphones, as it tends to hurt after too long. I put the audio through the speakers (which I can do with skype) and just set them down on the desk to use the mic that way.
However, because SWTOR doesn't have an option to change the device that the audio plays through it automatically goes through the headphones. Now normally it wouldn't be a big problem because I'd just change the program to use the speakers but I can't in this case, so I was wondering if there is a hardware or software way to override that. because they are a USB set, you can't even just not plug in the speaker plug. I just have standard onboard sound, its just saying "HD Audio", its from a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 motherboard.
Windows 7 Freezes When Starting Program
Dec 13, 2009If the computer has been on for an hour or so windows freezes 9 of 10 times when starting a new application. No matter which app it is, it can be Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop, After Effects, Spotify or even a simple jpg/targa picture in any program. But just after rebooting everything works fine for about an hour or two, it's then the problem starts. And it doesn't freeze always, sometimes the computer can be on for a couple of days without rebooting and I start any application normally, but that happen like 1 of 10 times. I'm running the latest drivers for the graphics card, mobo, mouse/keyboard and I've even tried with older drivers for the components but the problem still remains.

Jan 30, 2013Every time I try to open a Microsoft Word file or Excel file, a popup comes up displaying the "There was a problem sending the command to the program." message. Here is a list of things I've tried so far:
1. Deleted the "Data" registry key from the correct registry path.
2. Ran the "winword.exe /r" command from command prompt
3. Repaired Microsoft Office using the installation CD.
4. Ran the Microsoft Diagnostics (which didn't find any issues).
5. Reassociated the extensions in Control Panel > Default Programs.
6. Ensured that the "Run as administrator" checkbox isn't ticked in winword.exe's properties.

Dec 30, 2010I've read some threads about people installing windows 7 onto a new SSD, but no one seems to be running into the exact same problem as me.
My situation: I've got windows xp running right now on my old HDD. Been using it for years. I got a new SSD for christmas and a copy of windows 7. I've already put World of Warcraft on my SSD and have the SSD set as the D drive in dynamic configuration (i'm not exactly sure what that means).
I put in the windows 7 installation disk, and go through the first few screens. Once it gets to the screen where I choose "where" to install windows 7, the only HD it lets me choose is the old HDD with windows xp on it. The SSD shows up, but I can't choose it!
Is it because I've already used it a bit and installed some programs on it?
If I just take out my old HDD for a bit, will it let me install windows 7 onto the SSD because it's the only possible choice?

Windows 7 Booting Up And Have A List Of Options To Choose
May 2, 2012My pc has been acting funny i ran the chkdisk wich begins when you boot up the pc. At some point i knocked the ac adapter out of my notebook without knowing it and it finally went dead in the middle of the chkdisk. It automatically rebooted and gave me the option to repair the harddisk using vista which i upgraded to 7 a couple of years ago and i would choose the the only other option which was start windows normally well every time i would do that win 7 would try to load and right before you get to ur user account icon where you type in your password the pc would reboot and start this same cycle over and over again. Nevertheless when it rebooted again i hit the fn keys like i was a receptionist typin 150 words a min and i think it might have been the f10 key but not sure and this is the list of options that popped up.

Windows 7 Freezing On Login Screen (choose User)?
Dec 31, 2011recently my laptop (Toshiba Portege R830) started to freeze on the login screen almost everytime I power it up. As soon as I enter the login screen (the screen where you choose which user you want to log in with), my laptop just plain freezes: nothing works except shutting it down and restarting and praying. But sometimes it works and doesn't freeze, strangely (like right now).When I open my laptop in safe mode, it always work. There isn't any problem at all.I did a chkdsk in the console command screen (the famous cmd.exe) and also checked for any ''integrity problems'' (sfc/scannow I think it was) but it came up with nothing.I know it's vague but this is all I know. Does anyone know what might cause freezes on the login screen when you have to choose user? Personally I'd say this isn't related to hardware since the computer is like 2 or 3 months old, which there isn't much stuff on it right now too. It's also not a virus, I didn't do anything shady (yet) with this laptop.
I also have another small problem with my user folder. It's the default folder located at C:Users/(my name). It has been acting strangely since I had this computer. Sometimes when I delete one of the annoying useless folders like ''Favorites'' or ''Searches'' they don't disappear right away. I have to refresh the page to make it disappear for real, and this is troubling me because I never saw anything like that before. Usually when you delete something, it just goes away instantly. Also, I backup'ed some of the folders in the user folder on an external hard drive and sometimes when I power up my external hard drive some duplicate folders are created, which is so unbelievably annoying since when they keep coming back and I have to refresh everything to confirm I really deleted them
