We have Windows 7 on one of our office computers. However, I cannot figure out how to get the computer to automatically choose the appropriate program to open files. Every time we get a file in with a new extention, we have to browse and look for the program..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI plan to record PC gameplay using Fraps, which creates very large files. In order for me to do so whilst still maintaining high FPS in game, I have to record to my SSD. However, this fills up very quickly.make a program that automatically moves the recordings over to the HDD as they are created. Fraps has an option to split the recording up into 4GB segments, so what the program will need to do is detect when the second section has been created, then move the first across, then detect when the third has been created and move the second across etc.

I have a USB monitor hooked to the system and it does not turn on until Windows loads. but if I hard reset by accident or some other reason I can't see the screen that asks what you want to do, this only can be seen when vga/dvi is connected. I know there is a timer for the start normally, but wanted to know if there was a way to make windows not even have to ask and just know to start normally?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

Normally this would just be an inconvenience, because I can always just search for the same program I'm trying to open, but for some reason the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box is grayed out. View 2 Replies View RelatedHow exactly do you reset the program files open with, as some idiot in my family has decided that they don't know what a zip file is and that they may get somewhere with it by setting all zip files to open in power DVD... yeh. but now im faced with he problem of I can't extract any zip files, so how can I reset it so windows will open them as normal in explorer when I double click them, and let me extract them as normal, preferably without a system restore of any kind.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't open any files in any Office or OpenOffice program going through File>Open. I can double-click a file within a folder and it will open fine.
I don't have this issue in any other program that I regularly use. Just anything Office or OpenOffice. Here is an image of what I wind up with if trying to attach an image in Outlook. In Outlook I cannot attach a file to an email or Save an attachment. I can double-click in Outlook to open an attachment.
Anyone run into this type of issue before or any suggestions of where I can even begin to look to resolve?
I was downloading a screen recorder called camstudio and once I downloaded it it asked to choose a programme to open it with, so I chose winrar because most of my other files were opened with this, but then once I chose this all of my icons in the bottom bar were changed to the winrar programme logo, so I thought if I uninstalled the winrar software the problem would be solved, so I did but now all the icons are gone and every time I try and open something it asks me to choose a programme to open it with!

I did the same thing on Windows 7 and it has absolutely no effect. I do NOT want to play music/movie files with Windows Media Player, yet every time I try to play any music file (.mp3, .wav, etc), it ALWAYS open with Win Media Player, even though I have clearly set the default program to open these files as something else... same thing applies to movies

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to preface this with the fact I have a USB headset, is a logitech G35). The way it works is this. I'm playing SWTOR lately, it doesn't have an audio option to choose the audio device. When I played LOTRO, what I would often do is set it to play the audio through the speakers when I was on skype (or vent) so I didn't have to wear my headphones, as it tends to hurt after too long. I put the audio through the speakers (which I can do with skype) and just set them down on the desk to use the mic that way.
However, because SWTOR doesn't have an option to change the device that the audio plays through it automatically goes through the headphones. Now normally it wouldn't be a big problem because I'd just change the program to use the speakers but I can't in this case, so I was wondering if there is a hardware or software way to override that. because they are a USB set, you can't even just not plug in the speaker plug. I just have standard onboard sound, its just saying "HD Audio", its from a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 motherboard.
I tried to open a program using the open with option and it changed the icons for every program on my laptop. I changed the desktop (network, my computer etc) icons back to default but can't manage to change the others. If i go into properties for the program and change it that way it doesn't do anything.

The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens.
It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameNewName".
why this particular Windows 7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend recently lent me her laptop (Windows 7 32bit) it was still using IE so when I go to install chrome the built in 'security program' (Windows 7 internet security 2011 or something like that) tells me that chrome is a threat and wont let me use it.. With some programs I can browse the program files and locate the program, select open with (I can't select 'always use the selected program') and away we go, but with others it simply doesn't open or will open the program in the background (unusable) and give me the 'open with' window again..
