I have Windows 7 home premium and before I had a small fonts manager Styler and it possible to choose my nprefers fonts in windows explorer as well as on the internet but it only works with Windows XP, and since I've been searching on the internet to find something similar but in vein.
View 5 RepliesI just built a new system with Windoes 7 and just noticed that the headline font on engadget show us a little messed up. Look at the image below. The top line of text is from IE9 and the one below is from firefox both from the same computer. Any idea why the top one is a little messed up? I can honestly say I only noticed it on this one website and only the headlines. I'm using a XFX Radeon 6950 video card using the latest catalyst drivers.

My situation: I've got windows xp running right now on my old HDD. Been using it for years. I got a new SSD for christmas and a copy of windows 7. I've already put World of Warcraft on my SSD and have the SSD set as the D drive in dynamic configuration (i'm not exactly sure what that means).
I put in the windows 7 installation disk, and go through the first few screens. Once it gets to the screen where I choose "where" to install windows 7, the only HD it lets me choose is the old HDD with windows xp on it. The SSD shows up, but I can't choose it!
Is it because I've already used it a bit and installed some programs on it?
If I just take out my old HDD for a bit, will it let me install windows 7 onto the SSD because it's the only possible choice?
i have just wiped off the pre-installed windows that was on my lenovo laptop and installed a clean version of windows 7 home premium 64, can I ask if its better to use the manufacturer branded drivers or are the ones that windows downloads via the updates etc better as they are as intended and "clean" ?

i bought new computer with no OS on it! i bought a gamer 406. and i bought a windows 7 home premium english so i did put the CD in and did the first part of the installation then i arrived at the setup when choose language for keyboard and time.. then worked press next and accept terms bla bla... then it want me choose disk again but this time none of them working....

My pc has been acting funny i ran the chkdisk wich begins when you boot up the pc. At some point i knocked the ac adapter out of my notebook without knowing it and it finally went dead in the middle of the chkdisk. It automatically rebooted and gave me the option to repair the harddisk using vista which i upgraded to 7 a couple of years ago and i would choose the the only other option which was start windows normally well every time i would do that win 7 would try to load and right before you get to ur user account icon where you type in your password the pc would reboot and start this same cycle over and over again. Nevertheless when it rebooted again i hit the fn keys like i was a receptionist typin 150 words a min and i think it might have been the f10 key but not sure and this is the list of options that popped up.

I can enter down and go to safe mode or other options. I do not know why this is happening on each start-up.
I think perhaps there are still two copies of the windows 7 Operating system on the computer. I had to do a reinstall and I assume one was not removed.

I want to take a bunch of fonts with me, but Explorer in Windows 7 won't let me actually look at what files are in the font directory; all I can see is their characteristics, provided by Control Panel. Will it work to just copy font files into that directory from the XP machine? Or is there some additional voodoo to get them installed?
View 7 Replies View Relatedrecently my laptop (Toshiba Portege R830) started to freeze on the login screen almost everytime I power it up. As soon as I enter the login screen (the screen where you choose which user you want to log in with), my laptop just plain freezes: nothing works except shutting it down and restarting and praying. But sometimes it works and doesn't freeze, strangely (like right now).When I open my laptop in safe mode, it always work. There isn't any problem at all.I did a chkdsk in the console command screen (the famous cmd.exe) and also checked for any ''integrity problems'' (sfc/scannow I think it was) but it came up with nothing.I know it's vague but this is all I know. Does anyone know what might cause freezes on the login screen when you have to choose user? Personally I'd say this isn't related to hardware since the computer is like 2 or 3 months old, which there isn't much stuff on it right now too. It's also not a virus, I didn't do anything shady (yet) with this laptop.
I also have another small problem with my user folder. It's the default folder located at C:Users/(my name). It has been acting strangely since I had this computer. Sometimes when I delete one of the annoying useless folders like ''Favorites'' or ''Searches'' they don't disappear right away. I have to refresh the page to make it disappear for real, and this is troubling me because I never saw anything like that before. Usually when you delete something, it just goes away instantly. Also, I backup'ed some of the folders in the user folder on an external hard drive and sometimes when I power up my external hard drive some duplicate folders are created, which is so unbelievably annoying since when they keep coming back and I have to refresh everything to confirm I really deleted them
I recently somehow got a nasty virus into my lappy. It was extremely weird since I just bought a new anti-virus (Norton, to be exact) and my PC became super slow. I recognized signs of viruses and I decided to wipe the PC clean. My friend gave two Windows 7 DVDs. However, even after making DVD the first boot order at BIOS it just doesn't work. My DVD rom makes really nasty sounds and it waits on a black screen for a bit and then it shows me to choose safe mode or start normally.
Basically, my PC has always read DVDs (logo on it confirms it). Also, Rom itself isn't broken, other discs like the Norton one work fine. Since the DVDs my friend gave me were DVD R- and DVD RW. Later, I got yet another disc which was DVD R+ but it STILL didn't work. My PC doesn't recognize the DVDs even normally, through My Computer. Did the viruses ruin my drivers or something? My rom always read DVDs but why make weird noises now?
I don't know what happened, but when I turned on my PC this morning I found out that the following fonts are missing from the Windows/Fonts directory: Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman. Maybe others are missing also, but I can't tell. Everything is Italic and/or Bold.So my questions are:
01. Why is this happening?

I received my laptop yesterday - Core i5, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I proceeded to install some apps from Microsoft and Adobe. Installation went fine and the apps started without problems. As soon as I saw the long list of fonts in Word, I wanted to remove as many of them as I possibly could. Brought up Fonts panel. The fonts are indeed there, but they are simply not shown - no Segoe, no Cambria, no Corbel, no Constantia, not even Arial and Times New Roman, nothing.I got nervous and decided to restore Windows all the way back to the starting point.Today, I created the recovery DVDs from the factory partition. Rebooted from the DVDs to re-image C drive. Set up Windows and created my account. Windows 7 came up fresh. I went straight to the Fonts panel to check. Horror - the same 10 bitmap fonts, and nothing else.The factory-installed Windows 7 has problems showing fonts? What should I do now?

I have a USB monitor hooked to the system and it does not turn on until Windows loads. but if I hard reset by accident or some other reason I can't see the screen that asks what you want to do, this only can be seen when vga/dvi is connected. I know there is a timer for the start normally, but wanted to know if there was a way to make windows not even have to ask and just know to start normally?

I am trying to install 32 barcode fonts (type .ttf) using a batch file. Everything that I have read says that you should just be able to copy the font to C:windowsfonts and then add the appropriate value to the registry at HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFonts. My batch file does both of these things, however the fonts still do not show up in the font manager (or applications). They do show up if I browse to the fonts folder using cmd so I know they are where they should be. Is there something that I am missing here? These fonts need to be installed on every computer at my company so manually installing them isn't really an option.
