My daughter's PC, Windows 7 32 bit, all of a sudden started running chkdsk everytime it is booted up. How do we stop this behavior?Her antivirus is up to date and very efficient so we don't know what the computer is checking for.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Lenovo and figured that I should obviously get the Windows updates for it. I went to download the updates and all went well, that was until it tried to configure them with my computer. Everytime I turn on my computer now, I have to wait for it to try to configure updates. It gets to 15% completed, and then it suddenly says that the updates failed to configure, so the computer restarts, and then I have to wait for it to start up AGAIN. I've tried this at least 8-9 times and get the same result.

IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM 7600 and everytime i reboot my computer it asks for a system disk... I have to Put the Windows 7 disk in the dvd drive and reboot for it to load.. anybody know what may be causing this?
Also when i reboot i ahve to disable and re-enable my Network adapter in order to connect to the internet..
I have a computer which, every time it's restarted or turned on, the network icon always had that exclamation point, and it can't connect to the internet. All it needs to do is an IP config release/renew, then disable then re-enable the adapter, and it fixes itself. But upon reboot/restart, it happened again!
View 3 Replies View RelatedWanna start off by saying sorry if someone has already resolved this problem on another thread but I have read many and haven't found a problem that exactly matches mine.Ok here goes, I have a Dell Inspiron 1764 running on Windows 7 64 bit. I've had problems with this pc for months in that it suddenly lost masses of disk space and because of this I couldn't update any programs or even renew my McAfee which I gAfter some investigative work with help online I found that my 'My Music' and 'My Pictures' folders were located on the C drive and taking up a lot of space so I relocated these onto the D drive. This seemed to solve the problem, the C drive was clearer and everything was working fine, security checked for viruses and all seemed to be in order.
That lasted for about 4 days and then yesterday the laptop randomly crashed and then restarted and it appeared to be ok, I continued using with no problems and switched off as normal. I tried to boot on again last night only for it to hang on the Starting Windows screen, didn't even reach log in. It went to a black screen and then something else came up and asked if I wanted to Start Normally or in Safe Mode, I chose Safe Mode.Nothing happened for a while and then it went into CHKDSK but sat at 3% for about 2 hours saying loads of files were unreadable, it finally got to 30% after 6 hours but by then it was 1 in the morning I had to manually turn the pc off.I tried again this morning and had the same error but it automatically goes into CHKDSK, after about 5hrs it got to 55% and then went back to the Starting Windows screen, black screen and the CHKDSK again, this has happened 3 times now.
I've tried pressing F8 & F12 when first booting up and I've also inserted the Windows Installation Disk but this won't run. I gave up and switched off again, went through the same process but when it got to CHKDSK I pressed to cancel the check but it just sat there for 25mins and then asked me to choose Safe Mode etc, I choose SM again and it started to load files and has been sat at Loading Windows Files for the last 15 mins.
i attempted a dual boot of debian and windows 7 yesterday, on a HP laptop with a single HD. this is where ive come a cropper as i think ive installed grub into the windows partition - and thus now it cannot boot windows.i have a recovery disk, but cannot run chkdsk, scannow and diskpart does not let me select any volume other than the recovery disk itself.example output;chkdsk /fthe type of the file system is NTFS.cannot lock current drive.windows cannot run .... because it is write [CODE]those commands are all i can find to fix the problem and none of them do. i DO NOT HAVE a installation disc as it's a HP with windows pre installed on it.

I would like to do what most people are trying to avoid: I would LIKE TO have a chkdsk run on all drives every time I boot. Is there an easy way to do this? Further, might there be any way to distinguish between "this chkdsk is being run because you want it run every time" vs. "the chkdsk is being run because the dirty bit is set (you had a problem)"?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've 2 dvd rewriters in my pc. Both Pioneer, one oldish and one older. The both work within windows. When I select multi-boot options to run a boot disc they are both displayed to choose from. However, if I select one of them, the disc boots. If I select the other one, the command to boot is ignored and the system boots into windows - obviously ignoring the dvd device. It's the newer one which is the problem. They both used to work ok with a boot disc.

It still runs 95 processes minimum. It's windows 7 home premium service pack 1 (64 bit) if that's needed.. My antivirus/firewall is Avira Internet Security 2012 (not the free edition).

I turned off the computer for the night but when i turned it back on, i was getting no image on the monitor. I can hear the PC running but the display is just black; i cant see it post or anything. Also lately its as if the computer keeps starting up and then restarting; i can hear the fans wind down and then start back upI switched out monitors but that was not the issue. I used a dvi instead of vga connector but still the problem persisted. I also reset the cmos but again to no avail. I'm using IntelHD Graphics 3000[CODE]
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer every so often runs very slow, mostly noticeable when I play a game or something, When the computer runs fine all games I play run very smooth and fast, but for some reason about once a month or so my computer runs very slow for a week or 2 at a time, the game play is very choppy and runs slow. Whenever this happens the first thing I always try is restarting the computer and run my anti malware programs but they never find anything and doesn't seem to do anything about this issue. Eventually it goes back to running at a normal fast speed, but I was hoping someone could tell me why it has those slow periods.

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy hard drive that runs my windows 7 wouldn't boot, so in the end I re-imaged it, and since then I have no sound. I updated my drivers, checked it wasn't muted in the bottom panel, changed my leads, tried different types of leads, directly attached it to my tv to ensure it wasn't a problem with the amplifier, went to ASUS's site downloaded the new drivers again directly from them, got a snazzy new aplication out of it but still no sound. Checked my graphics cards are in securely, checked they're showing up, updated those drivers, ran windows updates a few thousand times, ran mr fix it, he tells me that the speakers, headphones etc are not plugged in, but they are. At least that's what the good fellow told me before my asus driver update, I will check back with him after walking my dog.

Now that I re-installed Windows 7 on it through recovery disks, it worked fined for about a day but then the problem came back. The computer is slow at bootup and runs super slow while freezing so many times. I am running it on safe mode right now and its working fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy office system is a Dell w/ Win7 and it's been running fine up until 1 month ago. Then it started this odd behavior. On a cold boot it runs about 5x to 20x times slower than normal, almost as if it's just running on a single core locked at 5%. Boot time to hit splash screen is 2.5 to 4.5 minutes (normal is 30 secs). And once I hit return on my pwd the system continues to run in super slow motion. If I just force a reboot, select Boot Windows Normally from the trouble menu, the the system boots in 30 secs, logs in fine, and runs normally.My boss has told me that other Win7 computers he owns/operates are now doing the same thing.I've no idea what could be causing this. Hearing that other Win7 computers are doing it tends to make me believe it isn't a problem specific to this computer or even this small office network. There are no USB devices other than the mouse and keyboard and we've switched those out. We'd recently installed virus protection software, but we removed that and the problem still continues.
The only other thing I can think of, is that we recently installed a printer driver so the system could print to a Brothers laser printer attached via USB to a computer across the local network. And come to think of it, my system wouldn't even see that printer and allow driver installation until we plugged the printer directly into my system. After installation we moved the printer back, and changed the settings for the system to find the printer across the network. I'll look into uninstalling that driver next time I'm in the office.
Update: New day, new slow boot. This time I forced an early reboot and I got the option to start a Windows Startup Repair. I started that, skipped doing a System Restore and let it run. Finally it came back with all tests fine except the following which crashed: System Files Integrity Check and Repair , Failed , Error Code #0x490 , Time Taken = 541573 ms. So it looks like the test that checks for problems crashed, leaving me to wonder if there might still be some hidden problem. And yet reboots run perfectly normal.
I disabled quite a bit of stuff to reduce processes. Apparently I went to far. Now windows wont boot and I cant get to safe mode.
View 18 Replies View RelatedMy Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine.
When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. I can't tell there are any issues. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd.
I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

Sometimes a browser window will open and I can access a page or a folder will open, but then it will eventually just run so slow it is practically frozen (with little blue circle still spinning).I think it might be linked to my wireless Internet, the little Internet icon in the bottom right hand task bar is just stuck searching for a signal every time i start up (even if I wait 10 minutes).I am using my laptop right next to the computer and it is picking up the wireless single fine.
View 5 Replies View Relatedyesterday i was put my computer(HP Pavillion 6) into sleep mode it was working perfectly fun and i tried to wake it back up i moved the mouse and nothing happened so i did a hard shutdown i turn it back on and apparently windows 7 couldn't be loaded so i tried to do a system repair and restore to a previous point neither of those methods worked so i shut it down again and it loaded up just fine but now it takes an extreme amount of time to load up past the log in screen first the desktop is black and the toolbar shows up after a long time and then the background and programs on the desktop show up then i can use the desktop again but it takes a very long time to load up any programs and freezes alot as well what could have happened after the hard shutdown?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has been running extremely slowly lately. It takes longer than usual to load regular programs and any web browser activity takes ages. I have run malware (Malwarebytes) and virus scans (Microsoft Security Essentials) and removed some items. Malwarebytes didn't detect much, but I found a trojan with Security Essentials. However, after removal my problems persist. I have scanned and attempted recovery of bad sectors. Issues were found and fixed, but a disk check was said to be necessary. I tried running chkdsk c: /F, but the disk check cancelled within a fraction of a second on startup.

I've tried other wireless adapters to no avail, and every other computer in the house, be it wireless, or not runs perfectly, with the speed tests all running about the same, while this laptop runs at about 1/4 of the speed. I can only assume it's some sort windows settings, and not anything to do with the ISP or the router because of such.To add, and I don't know if this will be of any use, but while doing regular browsing, the speeds are fine, you can't really notice a slowdown. But when viewing videos or downloads, it tanks. I've noticed my download speeds start out, and stay at their max speed (about 1.1MBps) for say 5 seconds, only to sink to about 250-300KBps for the remainder.
