View 3 Replies View RelatedIm having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a large number of image files on my C: Drive. 337,000 files. Many are duplicates. I want to back these up to a new drive and edit them there. Is there a way of doing this with Windows 7 backup? Or some other free backup utility?
Windows 7 Home and Business 32bit
My ST3500418AS 500GB died and took my Windows 7 with it, so I had to do a fresh install to another hard disk.
Unfortunately, Backup and Restore cannot see the backup location from my previous install, so I can't get my files back that way.
I presume that the VHD file I see in the backup folder is the system image of the previous install.
Is there any way I can extract my files from this VHD using some software package, or even convert it to another format such as ISO and extract my files that way?
There's a lot of great pics and stuff there that I don't even remember where I got it from, so I'm pretty desperate to get it all back.
I am wondering how to break down a .gif image file into several different images. Also, anyone know of any programs that can edit them. Mostly just the size, for now atleast. I have Photoshop CS3 and am very inexperienced with it. (If you really wanna know the background, I did a semester of junior college for computer graphics but then some stuff happened and I had to drop out.) And anyone know of any programs to create a .gif image file. I think that Photoshop is capable but I don't know how,
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some pictures in my computer that I had too in my external hd as a backup. Last time I just formatted my PC and restored the backup from the external HD. I had a batch file script that automated both backup and restore process, so I could just let it working overnight. The big problem is that I needed to format the external, but after doing this, I realized that some installers that I had restored was corrupted, like some videos and other files. Then I checked the pictures, and lots of them are damaged. I can open the files, but some have distortions, or colors are messed up. I tried to defrag the drive, tried pixrecovery to restore the picture, but no way, they're still damaged. I want to know if anyone have any idea for me. Really important pictures to me are damaged now..

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to Extract Files from Windows 7 System Image using Virtual PC ?
View 0 Replies View RelatedI am making regular backups - both the image backup and the file sets using Windows 7 Backup program. No problems with that.
But, I periodically would like to copy the image backup to a portable drive. I plan to take this portable drive offsite to a secure location - I call it my archive.
Is this possible? What files must I copy? Do I have to maintain a certain directory structure or naming convention in case I have to use the archived copy to restore (assume a bare metal restoration)?
I thought I could just copy the VHD files (boot and system) but the image backup has other directories and files and I just don't understand their purpose.
I need to copy these files rather than running the backup over again to this portable archive device. I have multiple computers and it is impractical for me to physically access each computer to re-run an image backup to the same archive device.
My archive device is a regular USB/eSata HDD and I don't plan to put VSS on it.
I can't seem to edit the time but I can change the date on images, is there a work around for image files?

I then got the message: "F: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."Out of all the tutorials I have read, the file should open just fine and let me explore it. View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are a small office, 5 or 6 computers. Only 3 are every day computers, other 3 are "server", admin and extra computer. The three in use every day are new win7pro x64 machines. Our server is xp pro (32bit) with a shared drive as our "server" drive. We access this for all our job related materials, etc. There is no network setup, just shared folders among our workgroup. we just got the new win7pro machines setup and are using Windows Backup function to create system images to the "server" computer in a shared folder. We've got the images created on 2 computers, and can see the .vhd files and associated folder structure. When testing to see if we could restore from these images, we got the error "Cannot locate backup sets on machine, etc."I moved the backup folder to the root of the drive, and made sure it was WindowsImageBackup or whatever the default is, but still could not find it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently was perusing some unsavory websites (I'm sure you can guess) today and all of a sudden I got these messages which I started to ignore. Then it said that my flash player could not be run, or something like that. The main thing was that something has hijacked my computer, preventing me from running ANY exe file, including my Trend Micro Maximum Security; HijackThis; System Restore; etc. I called Trend Micro and they could not help me either. I think I had glimpsed something that looked like it said "worm32" which leads me to believe that it is a worm that is infecting my computer. I keep getting the same message whenever I open any exe file: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs panel." I went into the default programs panel and found about 108 extensions that the current default is "unknown application". Some of these extensions include .386, .asp, .bat, .chk, and .cmd to name a few.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm really at my wit's end with this current issue I'm having. I recently got some spyware "pw.exe" which posed as "Win 7 Internet Security". I do not recall what I did to get rid of this issue, but the rogue anti-virus software is no longer posting imaginary warning messages. Avast shows no threats + Malwarebytes removed all the remaining threats. As a workaround, I created a 2nd Administrator account and was able to connect and open up Firefox to browse for some fixes. This was before Malwarebytes removed the threats (LOG AT END OF POST)I previously used to not be able to open any .exe files on the 1st admin account due to some permission issue related to the spyware. After the spyware/trojan removal - I have messed up .exe file associations and cannot access "regedit.exe" either through "run" or "cmd". I keep getting a "Cannot find C:Windowsegedit.exe" despite the file still being there. The only way to get cmd is through task manager by CTRL + clicking "Open new Process". Only problem is, I don't where to go from there.[CODE]

View 3 Replies View RelatedHere is a rundown of what happened. I was on the computer, not doing anything online and suddenly the computer shuts down and restarts. Upon restarting, windows (I'm running Windows 64 bit Home Premium) appears to not be able to open. It promptly displayed a new loading bar with "Loading Windows Files" or something like that. I attempted to reboot in safe mode, lastest working config, etc but nothing worked. I ran hardware checks including memory checks and nothing appeared to be wrong. When trying to run the repair utility, there was a startuprepairoffline error and the issue could not be fixed. I attempted a system restore but it said the restore failed. However, upon restarting my computer, it loaded to Windows and said restore was successful. Now that I somehow have Windows up, I am unable to use any programs of any kind besides cmd, regedit, etc. I have attempted to download the exe_fix_w7 file however it will not merge with the existing registry as it says that some are in use. I have tried both in safe mode as well as normal but to no use. I attempted to manually edit the lines which seems possible however I'm unsure if I did it correctly. So basically I'm stuck at not being able to open any files at the moment. I'm still not entirely sure there isn't something wrong with the hardware as on start up the computer now makes a sound on the Dell splash screen as if something is shutting down internally, however the BIOS diagnostic had everything passing so it may be nothing.
