View 2 RepliesMy wife has Windows 7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend has sent me all my pics from a recent trip to Thailand but when I try and open the files on windows 7 it says the files are either corrupt or not supported, my friend has a mac and I am wondering if this is the problem, I have tried extracting the files etc., with no success.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I'm trying to fix up my brothers laptop, but this thing is a real doozy of a mess. Not sure how this happened, but somehow, the OS is no longer able to open any kind of executable other than firefox, and internet explorer. Anything else, including chrome, is on a no fly list. I can't even open the command prompt.
I tried adjusting the extension properties, and even reinstalled the extension (codec?), but nothing allows the computer to access its' exe's.
I'm pretty much convinced that since I can't access the registry (which is, I think, where the problem lies) and since the system restore is useless (it's been screwed up so long there aren't any restore points prior to the problem), I'm out of options, and simply have to wipe the HDD and do a clean reinstall, but I wanted to know if anyone out there has a different idea.
More curiosity than anything, since I have never seen a computer as screwed as this. Has anyone heard of a virus that causes this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 3 machines all running Windows 7. Machine C & D are running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 and Machine A is running Win 7 Business Premium 64. To start I setup a Homegroup and joined everyone to it. I can open files on B & C via Machine A and I can open files on B via C and C via B, but when I try to open files on A via B or C, I can see the file, but when I try to access it the system freezes and does not open it.
Machine B is an older install of Windows 7. Machine B is a fairly new install. Both have very little "extra" programs on them except for anti-virus. Machine A has a new install replacing the the old install from the ground up as of yesterday of Win 7, has anti-virus that is the same variety as the others.
I have tried disabling the firewall on Machine A, did not work. I have tired disabling the anti-virus, did not work. I have even tried sharing a new folder outside the Homegroup and once again the other computer can see everything in it, they just freeze when I try to open anything. All the computers are on the same Workgroup. Machine A is running a gigabit adapter and the others are sitting at only 100/10 and are hardwired to the system.
my friend have deleted all my files from my laptop now it dosen't work. I have windows 7. when i want to open exe files message comes and it says:
The version of this file in not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
my laptop version is 64 bit.
How do I open a .bin extension file using Windows 7?
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverything was running fine, and all of a sudden I can not open .exe files unless i run them as an administrator. When I try to run them, the cursor does its 'loading' thing and then nothing open on the screen. I check processes under task manager and the program is open, but is not on my taskbar, or open anywhere on my screen. This is happening to about 90% of my programs. This is the second time I have had this problem. I had it before, and I did a clean re-install of windows 7 64-bit, and it happened again.I have tried multiple fixes, and nothing has worked so far. The driver for my Asus Xonar D2X sound card is what looks to be the culprit. I have no idea why and now I have to find a way to install the driver so I can use my card without this happening again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy father has windows 7 with new computer. all files and programs have ended up 'in' media center and cannot be opened. Card games, excel, word, IE, printer, etc. All icons have which used to be recognizable for the file or program now have microsoft icons. Any attempt to launch from the control panel etc are directed into the media center. Games are in 'extras' ie, exel, word, printer are in 'tasks'. NOTHING will work. If we removed media center im afraid all files and programs will disapear. he says he tried to removed it and the error message said: microsoft cannot perform this function. Ive looked at it and must admit, Im baffled. Media center has absorbed every file and progrfam on his computer

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how do I set the default program to open media files in Windows 7On WinXP it was right click -> open with -> checkmark "set as default program for opening this type of file" -> double click program. I did the same thing on Windows 7 and it has absolutely no effect. I do NOT want to play music/movie files with Windows Media Player, yet every time I try to play any music file (.mp3, .wav, etc), it ALWAYS open with Win Media Player, even though I have clearly set the default program to open these files as something else... same thing applies to movies
View 7 Replies View RelatedSometimes if I open a file by double clicking it in windows explorer, it will sit doing nothing (and that explorer window is then tied up) for a few minutes! Then the file opens normally in the correct application. But opening the application first, and getting it from the file open menu, or dragging the file into the open application is ok. The problem goes away if I reboot windows, but can come back again later for no apparent reason.
