View 2 RepliesEverything was running fine, and all of a sudden I can not open .exe files unless i run them as an administrator. When I try to run them, the cursor does its 'loading' thing and then nothing open on the screen. I check processes under task manager and the program is open, but is not on my taskbar, or open anywhere on my screen. This is happening to about 90% of my programs. This is the second time I have had this problem. I had it before, and I did a clean re-install of windows 7 64-bit, and it happened again.I have tried multiple fixes, and nothing has worked so far. The driver for my Asus Xonar D2X sound card is what looks to be the culprit. I have no idea why and now I have to find a way to install the driver so I can use my card without this happening again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a project where I need to search a large amount of text files on my home PC. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. My research indicated this feature was available in Windows 7.
If you do a search in Windows XP, you get a bunch of fields. You can pick to search for text INSIDE the particular sub folder structure.
I have found this feature in Windows 7, but it is different. I have tried using wild cards but it does not seem to work properly.
Quite often it's crashing if I try to open a text file over the LAN (mapping a drive from a SAN).I cannot close it using Task Manager and cannot do anything, it seems Windows Explorer is crashing completely. If I try to Shutdown or Restart, then Windows 7 hangs with "Logging Off" portion of the shutdown sequence. It will sit there with the "Logging Off" message on the screen indefinitely.I cannot start Task Manager or do anything else at that point except a hard shut down.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy txt files are identified with the icon of another program, Sigil, in my windows explorer. When I open these files and try to update them I get the message that Sigil files can't be changed. I am sure there is an easy way to get rid of this identification as Sigil. As a matter of fact many of the files were created before I had Sigil. It just took over my txt files. It is NOT a question of the extension. They all have the .txt extension.

View 7 Replies View RelatedA true solution within Windows still does not exist in reference to searching for text strings within a zip file. You can find a filename if you know it.
But if you're like me, and you are an admin who is using zipping to archive up logs, but then must occasionally go back and search within those logs for text strings, the Windows Search function does not help you.
I have found a workable workaround however. [URL]
Simply download and install WinRAR, and then follow the instructions found in that link to search within (even nested zips) for text strings in order to find the correct file you are looking for to open.

I also can not uninstall anyhing, i can inly access uninstall utility in safemode but it still will not let me uninstall anything i've tried running sfc/scannow several times along with chkdsk, both found nothing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOk this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.
Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".
I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.
Specifically looking to convert mp3 to ac3 for use in DVDs. Would like to find software with a simple to navigate UI. Most of the ones I've found (and believe me, there are many) are trial versions with a paid version to follow. The catch is lots of these trial versions only allow for partial conversion or some type of vocal overdub (sort of like an audio watermark). I've got nothing against a paid version, but is there any reliable audio conversion software that someone could recommend using? Freeware or paid?
