I am just wondering what do you use to search texts in files?I meant, searching text inside files ... As always, I prefer freeware if possible, because I believe this feature should be built-in to the OS.
I have a project where I need to search a large amount of text files on my home PC. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. My research indicated this feature was available in Windows 7.
If you do a search in Windows XP, you get a bunch of fields. You can pick to search for text INSIDE the particular sub folder structure.
I have found this feature in Windows 7, but it is different. I have tried using wild cards but it does not seem to work properly.
My txt files are identified with the icon of another program, Sigil, in my windows explorer. When I open these files and try to update them I get the message that Sigil files can't be changed. I am sure there is an easy way to get rid of this identification as Sigil. As a matter of fact many of the files were created before I had Sigil. It just took over my txt files. It is NOT a question of the extension. They all have the .txt extension.
A true solution within Windows still does not exist in reference to searching for text strings within a zip file. You can find a filename if you know it.
But if you're like me, and you are an admin who is using zipping to archive up logs, but then must occasionally go back and search within those logs for text strings, the Windows Search function does not help you.
I have found a workable workaround however. [URL]
Simply download and install WinRAR, and then follow the instructions found in that link to search within (even nested zips) for text strings in order to find the correct file you are looking for to open.
Found an app called "Thumbnails Extensions 1.03" which pretends to work on all system, well i'm on x64 and nothing new after when I install it. Any way to display text files thumbnails?
After installing Nvidia drivers, Realtek drivers, and JMicron E-sata drivers, I now have .log text files on the root of my "C" drive. Are these accessed next time I update the driver or can I get rid of them? I can't seem to find anything about these. I know they are there for a reason but I like things to be tidy.
i am using Win7 Professional, my problem is i am copying txt files to hard drive c, after paste the txt file, i suppose to edit the fiel, when i click the save button it is showing " access denied".
Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.
Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".
I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.
All of the sudden, when I want to copy and paste something in the same document, the formatted text (whether that be a certain font or bold) does not transfer over to the pasted text. For instance, if I wanted to copy the following bolded word word and then paste it anywhere else in the document, I now get this: word (without the bold). This applies to other cutting and pasting problems: this applies to other fonts and formatting (bold, my Greek font, etc). One more example: before today, if I wanted to cut a text out of my New Testament Greek program right in the middle of a paragraph, the Greek font (or whatever font) would paste normally no matter what font the target MS Word text was in.
I purchased a computer "open box" at a retail store. Everything seems to be working OK, but whenever I save or download a file using IE8 I can't find it!. It doesn't matter where I save in the save as window the file cannot be found even by the search. BTW if I use the Chrome browser everything seems to be OK.
I did a system restore as I had a virus. Now I can't find, my excel or word files, my pictures, nor my favourites. My word and XL software is Ok.Where do I find them what file do I look in ?
I have been encountering BSOD's for the last few months. I try to use the SF Diagnostic Tool but the tool says "No Dump Found." I looked at the "windows" folder, there were none. How can I configure the system to create minidump files after BSOD?
My wifes computer packed in so I removed her hard drive and connected it as a second hard drive in my machine. I rebooted and left the room for a minute. When I returned the screen was scrolling in what I'll call dos mode and stating "critical error deleting file. I pulled the plug in panic before I saw what was being deleted and from what drive. I removed the second drive and rebooted no problem. Is there a log that shows what files were being deleted?
But if I try to download something else to the folder, the files I have previously downloaded show up in the list of things in there. It's like they're invisible except that folder is set to show all hidden files. They don't show up in search results either
When I click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of my screen, a menu opens. At the bottom of that menu is a line that says "all programs". It opens into a menu of programs on my machine.
Inside of "all programs" is listed a folder called Microsoft. Inside of it is Outlook 2010.
However, I recently wanted to send an email using Outlook 2010 by clicking on a link on a website. A window opened that would allow me to select the email client I wanted to use from a list of programs. But I can't find Outlook 2010.
When I click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of my screen & then on "computer" and then on C drive, there is listed in C drive two folders, Programs & Programs (x86). However, the Microsoft folder containing Outlook 2010 is not in either one of them.
When I did a search for Outlook 2010 on my C drive, the result said it can be found at C:ProgramDataMicrosoftStart MenuProgramsMicrosoft Office
However, I cick the Windows icon in the lower left corner of my screen & then on "computer" and then on C drive, I cannot find a ProgramData directory. So, where is my Ourlook 2010?
I don't know where to find the dump files or else i'd post that for you. I seem to only have an issue with crashing when my LAN is enabled. I'm on an HP G61-632NR laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
Folderico lets you change folder icons to whatever you want, which is great, but I haven't been able to find a similar software for file types. I'm not looking to change the icon to every file, only certain ones that have blank thumbnails (think .bin or .gba files for example; I want to give each .gba file a custom icon, like a game cover or something, but I don't want all the .gba files I have to have the same thumbnail).
I am having an import wizard problem in MS Access 2007. In trying to fix the problem, I am trying to register dao60.dll ans msado15.dll. Unfortunately, it doesn't recognize Program Files (x86) and the .dlls are not in Program Files
I found several instances of csrss.exe running. Looked up this file, and find it to be a legit file name for a necessary service. All fine so far.So I decide to search my C: drive for this file, just to see if I have multiple copies, and possibly one might be bogus. I pull up an explorer window, type csrss into the search box, and it finds NOTHING...Now, I can go find one instance of csrss.exe: it's in the windows/system32 folder... and when I search ONLY this folder, it shows up in the search. But when I try to search the whole C: drive, it can't find it, anywhere.
My company provided us with a link so we can get a discounted copy of office 2010..This one guy doesn't matter if he downloads the copy from microsoft's site or the cd copy he received in the mail. The install isn't clean so sometime during the install I get a message saying" ms-office professional plus 2010 encountered an error during setup.Error 1706: setup cannot find required files. check your connection to the network or cd-rom drive. for other potential solutions see c:program filesmicrosoft officeoffice10setup.hlp users machine has windows 7 home premium 32 -bit os, its an hp pavillon DV6000.
i went to shrink one of my disk partitions and was told i couldn't get more than 3gb more because there are some files in the partition that windows can't move. i've actually got about 30gb free on the partition, so this is irksome. does anyone know of an application that'll show me where files are located on the disk so i can see which files are preventing the partition from shrinkiing?
