My wife has Windows 7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version.
Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.
im having quite similar problem in restoring windows. my pc have been attacked by virus which all my files been transfer to .exe file. i cannot open any files. i wanted to restore my windows however the cd was missing. can i install or restore windows without cd or how could i use my windows using the product key attached at the casing of my pc.
when a file comes up to open and I click on it , it goes to Microsoft office , then a screen comes up saying put in your key . I have no clue as to what is happening here. I cant open files or PDF's.
Any time I try to open an .exe file, or a shortcut to an .exe file, I get an error message saying that Windows cannot find the file.I've tried moving files to different locations, but nothing works. When I restart in Safe Mode everything opens fine, so I'm worried it's some kind of virus or malware causing the problem.
I recently was perusing some unsavory websites (I'm sure you can guess) today and all of a sudden I got these messages which I started to ignore. Then it said that my flash player could not be run, or something like that. The main thing was that something has hijacked my computer, preventing me from running ANY exe file, including my Trend Micro Maximum Security; HijackThis; System Restore; etc. I called Trend Micro and they could not help me either. I think I had glimpsed something that looked like it said "worm32" which leads me to believe that it is a worm that is infecting my computer. I keep getting the same message whenever I open any exe file: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs panel." I went into the default programs panel and found about 108 extensions that the current default is "unknown application". Some of these extensions include .386, .asp, .bat, .chk, and .cmd to name a few.
I'm really at my wit's end with this current issue I'm having. I recently got some spyware "pw.exe" which posed as "Win 7 Internet Security". I do not recall what I did to get rid of this issue, but the rogue anti-virus software is no longer posting imaginary warning messages. Avast shows no threats + Malwarebytes removed all the remaining threats. As a workaround, I created a 2nd Administrator account and was able to connect and open up Firefox to browse for some fixes. This was before Malwarebytes removed the threats (LOG AT END OF POST)I previously used to not be able to open any .exe files on the 1st admin account due to some permission issue related to the spyware. After the spyware/trojan removal - I have messed up .exe file associations and cannot access "regedit.exe" either through "run" or "cmd". I keep getting a "Cannot find C:Windowsegedit.exe" despite the file still being there. The only way to get cmd is through task manager by CTRL + clicking "Open new Process". Only problem is, I don't where to go from there.[CODE]
Here is a rundown of what happened. I was on the computer, not doing anything online and suddenly the computer shuts down and restarts. Upon restarting, windows (I'm running Windows 64 bit Home Premium) appears to not be able to open. It promptly displayed a new loading bar with "Loading Windows Files" or something like that. I attempted to reboot in safe mode, lastest working config, etc but nothing worked. I ran hardware checks including memory checks and nothing appeared to be wrong. When trying to run the repair utility, there was a startuprepairoffline error and the issue could not be fixed. I attempted a system restore but it said the restore failed. However, upon restarting my computer, it loaded to Windows and said restore was successful. Now that I somehow have Windows up, I am unable to use any programs of any kind besides cmd, regedit, etc. I have attempted to download the exe_fix_w7 file however it will not merge with the existing registry as it says that some are in use. I have tried both in safe mode as well as normal but to no use. I attempted to manually edit the lines which seems possible however I'm unsure if I did it correctly. So basically I'm stuck at not being able to open any files at the moment. I'm still not entirely sure there isn't something wrong with the hardware as on start up the computer now makes a sound on the Dell splash screen as if something is shutting down internally, however the BIOS diagnostic had everything passing so it may be nothing.
have been setting up all the *.wma files on my music web site to stream as directed by *.wax files. everything was fine in XP Pro...but now I've gone over to Windows 7; & noticed that when I click on one of the *.wma's at my site...it doesn't stream...Windows 7 instead asks me if I want to open or save the file. no matter which option I choose...it treats it as a text file (opening the *.wax in 'Notepad').
I have just downloaded files for sewing patterns BUT they cannot be opened because they are not JPegs. They have extension names like ART CST DST EXP HUS JEF PES SHV VIP and XXX.What can I do? Do I need to buy expensive software for each of these file types. I found something that said it would open them and charge only 29 American dollars but when I went to pay it wanted over 50 Euros which is MUCH MUCH mor
It seems to me that I cant seem to open 7z files. When ever I try it gives me a error saying "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged" This is every 7z file
Can't access exe files. "This file does not have a program associated with it fr performing this action. Please installa program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I found "fixes" online, but nothing helped. I can't acess regedit files, ths has dropped my acess to "open as admin" as well. The latest fix didnt work either. I changed the files to Adobe, to try to gain acess. Still a no go. I've tried in safe mode as well. IndyWolf has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
i use window 7 home premium Gateway laptop NV52. yesterday, i opened file location on an icon on destop and on that interface, i tampered with the "open with" and my entire applications and files on windows changed. any of the "open with" options like window media, paint, picture viewer, adobe etc entirely changes my applications and files. even window files were affected. if i try opening a file, it will show me adobe reader or any few mentioned above cannot open this file. i tried using system restore and program access default on control panel but to no avail. so folders on my control panel attempts opening with any of the choosen file above. my exe. files cant open.
I cannot open my PDF files on Adobe Reader because I receive a message telling me that BIB.dll is missing and needs to be installed. Been probing with no direction.
i tried to open a file by double clicking on it and it didnt work so I right clicked and went into the OPEN WITH. there i clicked on internet explorer to open the file. Once I did that every program on my desktop switched its icon to the internet explorer icon. now i cant open internet explorer, skype, teamviewer, vuze or any other program on my desktop. every time i double click on a program a window pops up that has three options, open, sace and cancel. i clicked open ans save and it didnt work. now i dont know how to undo what i did.
a friend was burning movies to DVD that I downloaded from bit torrent and ever since I am unable to open any compressed files-zip, avi, ect. My laptop was re-furbished by Gateway so it did not come w/ OS disc to re-install anything. I have Windows7 home premium 64bit & am not very knowledgeable about computers.
After I most recently restarted my computer, every program or file I try to open prompts me with a window asking for which program I want to use open the file, followed by a list of programs. Normally this would just be an inconvenience, because I can always just search for the same program I'm trying to open, but for some reason the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box is grayed out. I recently recovered from a virus, so I suspect this may be a side effect
Relatively fresh install Win 7 Pro 64bit Thunderbird is default email programme
I use an outliner/PIM which uses IE to display saved files in it's viewer pane. It had a problem showing saved emails in .eml format. I then tried to open the emails directly with IE 32 & 64 bits - without success.
What happens is: a donwload progress-window opens, and, in front of that, a download dialogue asking do I want to open or save or cancel.
I thought I was being smart when I deselected "Always ask for this filetype" but then it opens the file in Thunderbird, the default handler.
But I want it to open in IE - why does the download dialogue open at all? I'm trying to use IE to open it: this happens if I try to open a locally saved file via the context menu "open with" or if I try to open from within IE.
Some security setting maybe? This used work in XP IE8 so presume it should work here. I presume I could make IE the default handler for eml but dont want to mess with Thunderbird either...
I just noticed this problem now since my new computer, but when I click on internet links to PNG files, it won't open the PNG in internet explorer, but give me the prompt to download or open in default program (which I set as MS Paint), I've looked for solutions online but they are all badly outdated (some going as far back as 2000) or don't apply to Internet Explorer 9.
Basically I cant open .jpg files. When I try to open one I get "Class not registered."I have rebooted a couple of times but it wont go away. Anyone know what it means?
