Reduce Number Of Steps To Open Opera Mini On Desktop

Mar 23, 2012

I am running Windows 7. I have created a desktop shortcut using the following path in Target: [code] This shortcut is successful in opening the microemulator but I then have to go through additional steps to run the Opera Mini browser. The additional steps are: click File-> click Open MIDIet File...-> hightlight opera-mini-6.5.26955-advanced-en-us.jad-> click Open-> click Start.I have been told it is possible to eliminate all but the last step (Start) by adding appsopera-mini-6.5.26955-advance-en-us.jad to the file path but I cannot get it to work. When I do this and click on the shortcut a small black window flashes then disappears and nothing else happens.Would anyone have any thoughts on how I can reduce the number of steps to open Opera Mini?

Indexing Only Index Small Number Of Files?

Sep 25, 2011

I have a newer system with Windows 7 64-bit running. I manage many other machines and really have never had to think about the indexing service. It always seems to work decently although it has its faults. However, this is my personal machine and want it to work somewhat as it should and there's something way out of whack here. I built this system online and it has performed flawlessly. Not a glitch - except the indexing part of it.My hardware:1. Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B32. 8 GB Memory3. Crucial Model 300 SSD4. WS 500GB Black Caviar HD5. 2 Dell Monitors6. Plain vanilla networking w/built in ethernet7. HP DVD R/W DriveI have configured what I want indexed and what I don't but not much of a change from Microsoft defaults. Services.msc reports that the indexing service and Windows Search servie status is "started" with "automatic" startup type.

The problem is no matter what I do my index only contains about 4,000 files. I have much smaller system that have over 800,000 files indexed and there's many more files on this machine. I've tried rebuilding the index many times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Index and serch services. Changed the registry to run indexing at full speed and left the machine on full power overnight and STILL always get around 3,000 to 4,000 files indexed. I have searched via the start menu and while in a folder using Windows Explorer. I check to make ABSOLUTELY sure I have the folder in the list of Indexed folders (control panel->Indexing Servce) and yet a search doesn't come back with ANY files. Occasionally, while searching in the Windows Explorer search box I'll get a message that I should add C: to my search list but it's already there. Obviously a few of the folders on the C: drive are in the exclude list but most are not.I know I haven't given much to go on here but I'm hoping someone will see something in my description that will spark an idea to go with that I haven't already tried. I wish I could give you a really comprehensive list of what I've done but I've been playing with this on and off for the last several months.

Deleting Large Number Of Files Very Slow

Apr 17, 2012

I run a software tool that often generates 75,000 - 100,000 small files that need to be deleted after the software exits. Right now, it can take 8 - 10 minutes to permanently delete all these files from a single run, and I usually have 4 - 8 runs to deal with, so do the math. I have tried shift-del to permanently delete but it doesn't work - Windows still copies everything to the recycle bin. Also, while moving the files to the recycle bin, I often get an error message: "Error 0x80070050: The file exists." Bottom line is that it takes a *really* long time just to delete these files and I need a quicker way to do it.

Open With: Can't Add Program To Open Files

Dec 16, 2012

Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

Can't Open .exe Files?

Jan 27, 2011

Any time I try to open an .exe file, or a shortcut to an .exe file, I get an error message saying that Windows cannot find the file.I've tried moving files to different locations, but nothing works. When I restart in Safe Mode everything opens fine, so I'm worried it's some kind of virus or malware causing the problem.

Cannot Open Any Exe Files

Dec 15, 2011

I recently was perusing some unsavory websites (I'm sure you can guess) today and all of a sudden I got these messages which I started to ignore. Then it said that my flash player could not be run, or something like that. The main thing was that something has hijacked my computer, preventing me from running ANY exe file, including my Trend Micro Maximum Security; HijackThis; System Restore; etc. I called Trend Micro and they could not help me either. I think I had glimpsed something that looked like it said "worm32" which leads me to believe that it is a worm that is infecting my computer. I keep getting the same message whenever I open any exe file: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs panel." I went into the default programs panel and found about 108 extensions that the current default is "unknown application". Some of these extensions include .386, .asp, .bat, .chk, and .cmd to name a few.

Cannot Run/open .exe Files?

Nov 16, 2010

I'm really at my wit's end with this current issue I'm having. I recently got some spyware "pw.exe" which posed as "Win 7 Internet Security". I do not recall what I did to get rid of this issue, but the rogue anti-virus software is no longer posting imaginary warning messages. Avast shows no threats + Malwarebytes removed all the remaining threats. As a workaround, I created a 2nd Administrator account and was able to connect and open up Firefox to browse for some fixes. This was before Malwarebytes removed the threats (LOG AT END OF POST)I previously used to not be able to open any .exe files on the 1st admin account due to some permission issue related to the spyware. After the spyware/trojan removal - I have messed up .exe file associations and cannot access "regedit.exe" either through "run" or "cmd". I keep getting a "Cannot find C:Windowsegedit.exe" despite the file still being there. The only way to get cmd is through task manager by CTRL + clicking "Open new Process". Only problem is, I don't where to go from there.[CODE]

Can Not Open Exe Or Any Other Files

May 27, 2011

Here is a rundown of what happened. I was on the computer, not doing anything online and suddenly the computer shuts down and restarts. Upon restarting, windows (I'm running Windows 64 bit Home Premium) appears to not be able to open. It promptly displayed a new loading bar with "Loading Windows Files" or something like that. I attempted to reboot in safe mode, lastest working config, etc but nothing worked. I ran hardware checks including memory checks and nothing appeared to be wrong. When trying to run the repair utility, there was a startuprepairoffline error and the issue could not be fixed. I attempted a system restore but it said the restore failed. However, upon restarting my computer, it loaded to Windows and said restore was successful. Now that I somehow have Windows up, I am unable to use any programs of any kind besides cmd, regedit, etc. I have attempted to download the exe_fix_w7 file however it will not merge with the existing registry as it says that some are in use. I have tried both in safe mode as well as normal but to no use. I attempted to manually edit the lines which seems possible however I'm unsure if I did it correctly. So basically I'm stuck at not being able to open any files at the moment. I'm still not entirely sure there isn't something wrong with the hardware as on start up the computer now makes a sound on the Dell splash screen as if something is shutting down internally, however the BIOS diagnostic had everything passing so it may be nothing.

Can't access exe files. "This file does not have a program associated with it fr performing this action. I can't acess regedit files, ths has dropped my acess to "open as admin" as well. The latest fix didnt work either. I changed the files to Adobe, to try to gain acess. Still a no go. I've tried in safe mode as well. IndyWolf has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
