View 4 RepliesI had a domain on my computer that was restricting me from changing passwords etc on my computer. I removed my computer from the domain but now i have seemed to have lost all the data that was on my computer, inc music and important documents. Can anyone help me recover these?
We have removed a computer from the domain because of some network issues. When we logged in to the computer as a local administrator we've noticed that the user folder of the domain user who was previously logged to that computer was almost empty(except for the appdata folder). When we joined the pc back in the domain the computer made a new profile.Unfortunaly the user did save some documents on his dekstop in the old profile.

I know it is because they are on an old Work Domain. They no longer work for that company. But the Laptop is there's.I went to System and "changed settings" under "Computer Name Domain and Workgroup settings".I changed from "Work Network" to "Home Network".After restarting, ALL of there configurations and settings were gone. Outlook, ACT!, etc needed to be setup again. But the computer was able to access the features that they needed.Apparently the user account that we were using to log in into, was no longer available.I did a system restore to right before I changed to Home Network. How do I change to "Home Network" from "Work Domain" while still keeping ALL user settings, but getting rid of the lockdown that the Domain Policies Enforced?

My laptop has a PGP total disk encryption. I can log in on the first PGP login screen. After that, Windows 7 login appears and I can not login using my usual name and password.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer, with 7 RTM installed, is part of a corporate domain. I'm trying to access a shared folder on a 2000 Server, which is outside the domain. Using XP, 2003, or any other OS there I had no problem accessing the share with regular UNC e.g. computer. However, from the Win 7 computer I hit a brick wall every time.
The login window pops up and I can't login even though I'm using a valid user. The even stranger thing is that using XP mode does allow you to access, but that's hardly a solution. Is there some network/security setting I'm missing?
It is easy to share a folder with Everyone, or to share it with other user accounts on the same computer, but how can I share a folder with a specific user account on ANOTHER computer in the workgroup?Reason: in my neighborhood, four friends are connected by cable to the same router, and we all belong to the same workgroup. Each computer has a folder (named "public") that we share with everyone else, but I also want to have another folder (named "private") that I can share with only other computers in my apartment, but not with my friends (on other apartments). How can I do this?

I just got my first computer in place i installed win 7 on it and everything went smooth, but then i realized i had by misstake installed the 32bit version..so i checked the SSD, which is the only kind of storage drive i have right now, and for some reason the installation had made an partition called system drive or something on 100mb. the stupid thing is that it was nothing on it?? windows was still on C:? anyway , after many minutes of thinking i decided to just reinstall windows over the old one and so i did. it runned smooth and went perfect, i checked the preferences of my computer and as planned i now had the 64 bit version but 30Gb was lost on my SSD? i discovered that the old windows was still there, in the windows.old folder... i didnt think about much so i'd just pressed delete...

I have a Windows 7 PC that's joined to a domain. The network location says "Domain network" and cannot be changed. According to Microsoft, you must set your location to "Home" in order to be able to join a computer to an already existing HomeGroup. My advanced sharing settings for both Home and Domain (domain being the current profile) show all the sharing and discovery settings enabled. HomeGroup Listener and HomeGroup Provider services are started. My Windows Firewall is enabled. I can connect to \computername of my HomeGroup computers. However, I cannot join the HomeGroup. It says "There is currently no homegroup on your network." [URL]I verified the group policy settings do not prohibit me from changing my network location from Domain to Home so that I may join a HomeGroup. However, I still cannot click on "Domain network" in order to change it to Home. How can I join this computer to the HomeGroup?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOur setup is as follows: Users are in a remote location connected by satellite link to the domain server. The domain server is DNS and DHCP server for client computers. Because of the satellite connection data transmission has a longer than normal latency delay but transfer speeds are not bad (0.5 mps).I can understand that when logging in, a client computer might experience a longer login time as Windows communicates with the domain server to validate credentials. However, after logging in, are there network activities being performed by the client computer with the domain server on a permanent basis that would make the client computer much slower than normal while performing local tasks? Users report that when logged into the domain, their computers slow down significantly even when opening files on their hard disks. It might be that other issues are causing the problem, but I would like to understand better how the client - server relationship works when logged into a domain so that we can test further.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe computer is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition version 6.1 Build 7601 service pack 1. The computer is not in a domain environment. I believe this may be a security issue however I completed an in-place windows 7 upgrade to try and fix the problem but after all of the windows updates, etc the error remains and appears every time the computer is rebooted..[code] The relevant status code says that the "Object already exists" which I think is far more relevant then some memory issue. Do I have to delete some file or registry entry? Or is it a security issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome time ago after installing Windows 7 on my computer, I added a domain name (don't ask me why - I was just fiddling around ). Now, I cannot delete it. From my dos commands, when I do a pathping, I get Rick-PC.mydomain.net and I want to get rid of the domain part of it since no one else has that domain.
We all log in here on our computers not from any domain controller. We share an Internet pipe and a simple file server.
I have tried going in through Computer|Properties|, under computer name - 'Change Settings' under "To rename this computer click Change" [Change], and under [More] where it states a DNS suffix, it is blank.
I'm currently developing a new SOE from scratch for the company I currently work for as my first real project I have a few concerns surrounding what should be included and what can actually be achived. When I create the image from PC1 does it copy absolutly everything EG: Computer settings and Product keys? The reason why I ask is if it copies the product key aswell we could be in some serious trouble with the auditors.Branching off from my last question, is there anyway to assign a computer name and issue the pc a domain when the image is loading? Or is this not possible?

View 6 Replies View RelatedOn Thursday this week I upgraded my XP machine to Windows 7 (actually created a dual-boot system) and generally I find it to be OK. I have one or two gripes but most I'll get used to. However, one thing that does annoy me rather intensely is that ALL shared folders/drives on our home network show up in 'Computer' view in Windows Explorer - all 45 of them.
I find this particularly irritating and I've been searching the internet for hours for a way of removing them, all with no success. Perhaps I'm not really sure what search term I should use and I recognise I may well be missing some new feature in Windows 7 that is NOT in XP - but I really don't know what.
So, a question please: is there a way of removing those shares from 'Computer' view, i.e. the top level view where all the drives are shown (My Computer in XP)?
After removing some malware from a client's computer, none of the Windows games will launch. I went to Programs and Features, turned off all games, the turned them on.They are in the menu, but do not launch. No message; nada. No traces in Event Viewer

my computer is a dell laptop Vostro13 with preloaded Windows 7 32 bit. I regularly lose my connection to the workgroup while all 4 other computers do not. i have shortcuts direct to various machines that fail. i can sometimes restart the network by going into the my network places section and it can then connect to the other workgroup computers but sometimes a full reboot is required. this happens sometimes multiple times in a day. i have turned off the power save settings that shut down wifi, i am using built-in wifi connection like the other machines on my workgroup are.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 PC's, both running Windows 7 Enterprise x86. The main PC has an internal drive and an external USB drive, both of which have shares a plenty. Until yesterday they worked fine. If I type \main-pc (from the main-pc) I can see all the shares but when I try and access them I get the message 'check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network'. The network diagnostic wizard doesn't find a problem. If I type \192.168.72 , which is the main-pc ip, into the run line, it cannot access the workgroup browse list and comes back with the same message about checking the spelling. The second PC can access the main PC shares without any problem at all, including via Ip address. When I ping the netbios name I am returned a valid IP.
Here's what I have done so far:
- Reinstalled the network card, tried another network card.
- Reinstalled client for ms networks and file and printer sharing.
- Completely disabled IPV6 using the DisabledComponents reg fix.
- Ran NETSH resets on winsock and ip stack.
- Reerun the network wizard, renamed the workgroup, changed the PC name, fiddled with homegroup (enabling/disabling), removed security software, disabled the firewall, disabled firewall through policy, uninstalled all windows updates in the last week.
I've used the net view command and can confirm all workgroup services are running. If I type net view I can see my PC..but the problem isn't just accessing my PC, I get exactly the same problem now when I try and access the second PC, which works fine if your on it locally. It could be the server service which the browser service requires, I've paused it and my results don't change but not sure how to troubleshoot that. I've had a go at some reg fixes and modified some security polices but have since put it all back the way it was. Might be worth mentioning I have had a network bridge active between 2 network cards but has never been an issue. I've removed the bridge and tried in both cards separately as well.
I am trying to join multiple pc's to the same workgroup and would like to know if its possible to set up to have one master pc control that can change all passwords in workgroup to mirror its changes without making it a domain?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy new laptop running Windows 7 Professional and it is not easily recognizing other workgroup computers. When, and if, it does, it does not staying connected to other computers and a wireless printer on my workgroup.I have a desktop that is running Windows XP Home. It is sharing its printer and external hard drive to all computers in the workgroup. When I got on the router, I was able to get the Windows 7 machine to see XP box long enough to map a drive and load the printer. After rebooting, Windows 7 did not recognize the drive map or the printer. I pinged the XP box and got Destination Host unreachable. The only thing I can ping is the router. Also, when I went to load the wireless printer (with Windows 7 drivers) it did not see the printer even though the printers connection light is on. I have two Vista Business machines and one Windows 7 Home computers in my workgroup. These are not having any problems. From those other machines, they can ping each other but they cannot ping the new box.It is acting like a setting in Business has it isolated itself and is not allowing traffic. I have searched this problem and it seems to be common but I have not seen a post addressing the Business question. I have tried everything that the help files and forums stated (setting discovery, disabling IPv6, disabling firewall on both, uninstalling virus protection, etc.) with no result. Is there a setting in Business that would prevent it from being visible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working as the all-purpose tech at a small school for kids with learning disabilities (no operating budget for IT) and we are in the process of upgrading parts of the network[Disclaimer: I did not setup this network, but I am heavily considering getting rid of everything and rebuilding it from scratch.]Setup:Right now we have an XP Pro Workgroup network with 4 Workgroups (Admin, Classroom, CompLab, Workgroup). We have about 50 computers (40 of them are Dell Optiplex GX 270s running XP Pro SP3, close to identical Hardware configs; the remainders are teacher's laptops and such).
We have 3 new machines (ADMIN workgroup) for the 2 school administrators and the administrative assistant. They are ASUS Essentio Desktops Model CM5570s Running Win 7 Home Premium. (You might start to guess where I'm going with the issues I'm having.)We are running a xerox WorkCentre 7346 w/ accounting, and have a few other printers scattered throughout the network.[Edit]The only machines not running XP Pro SP2/SP3 are the 3 ADMIN machines, my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545), one laptop running Vista, 3 Macs, and 3 other laptops running Windows 7 [/Edit]Problem:The crux of the problem is with the 3 new machines working with the pre-existing XP Network. One of the new machines replaced our Administrative Assistant's old XP machine which hosted some files that the teachers needed to access (report cards, test results, etc.) When we put in the new machine, the teachers were no longer able to access these files across the network.
Most of the teachers are accessing the new machine (ADMIN1) on the ADMIN Workgroup from the other workgroups (CLASSROOM, COMPLAB, and WORKGROUP) are having issues. When attempting to access the new machine (ADMIN1), the pop-up error comes up:\ADMIN1SharedDocs is not available. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. <br><br>The network path was not found."I believe this to be a permissions and policy issue due to the limitations of Windows 7 Home Premium. We aren't able to fully integrate into the network from the Windows 7 side (tell me if I am off on this)Alternatively, we are getting the error when trying to access the CLASSROOM workgroup from a machine on the CLASSROOM workgroup of:"CLASSROOM is not accessible. [yada yada yada] . <br><br> Not enough storage is available to process this command."
This error pops up on a number of machines on the various workgroups trying to access their own and other workgroups and/or machines. This is most likely due to the 10 connection limit of XP Workgroups which I really want to solve by installing a server w/ SBS 2003 (we have the machine, not the OS, and not installed. . . yet.)Granted there are quite a few problems with the network and the way it is setup, I still have to make things work.We don't have a domain controller and I haven't been able to figure out how they set up the network in the first place, although I have managed to restructure some of the network. I have also begun to create a drawn out network map of infrastructure and after that I'm going to work on the arduous task of mapping out user permissions (which if you don't already know is one of the most time consuming things to do manually)
I have a Laptop that I just installed Windows 7 on, and an XP machine. All is working well, including the networking, but I have what might be a silly question.
From the XP machine, why does the 7 machine not show up when I "View Workgroup Computers". I can get to it when I look in "My Network Places", but when I View the Network Computers, only the XP machine shows up when I'm on the XP machine.
The XP machine shows up on the 7 machine when I "View Network Computers and Devices" FWIW.
