in my PC there are some drives with RAID0 arrays and from little time I have bought a SSD for Operative System (Windows 7).in your opinion (on the BIOS) is it better making the Boot with SSD or with another drive with RAID0?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn a new build I'm trying to create a RAID 1 array with two 1TB drives. The drive mode is set to RAID on the Motherboard, and I was able to successfully create the RAID within the Intel Rapid Storage BIOS. Once booted into windows, in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Window it says recognizes that the RAID is there and says the status is normal. It has been initialized through this program also (although i have read that there is no need to initialize for a RAID 1). In Disk Manager I can see my SSD that windows boots from, and 1 WD 1TB drive (There is 2 there though, but this makes me think that it sees that its a RAID) and it shows it as unallocated space. In "My Computer" the only drive i can see is my SSD. So i guess my question is what do i need to do to make Windows see the RAID in "My Computer"? This is my first RAID build so im new the the RAIDing world.

I have 6 (2 internal, 4 external) hard drives, 2 CD DVD drives and one of those drives that read every kind of media card.
My external drives don't show in Widows Explorer unless they are turned on and they are always off unless I'm using them. So it normally shows my 2 internal drives and my DVD drives, but the media card reader shows up as 5 Removable Media Drives.
It there a way to make the media card reader not show unless I put a card in it.
It would clean up the view a lot to get rid of these 5 drives displaying all the time. I'd like to see only my 2 internal drives and my DVD drives. When I have all my external drives turned on and my USB stick plugged in it's just too much!
Win 64Bit Keeps making my drives Disk (Volume) attributes "read-only". I can Unlock the drives by using the command prompt and using diskpart to clear the attributes on each drive and volume, but this is tedious, and I have to do it almost every day. What is causing this and what can I do?
I have a feeling it may be related to another problem I have. I tried to change my homegroup settings but closed down my PC before it had finished making the changes. Now, when I try to change the homegroup settings all I see is a notice saying that it is still sharing my Libraries, or something similar. This message is permanent, and I can make no changes. What can I do about this issue please?
I have a media center on my home network with which i would like to be able to broadcast the drives themselves, and not just individual folders, on my home network, mainly for backup to my file server, but also if any other computer would like to connect to it to use the media. I have tried to share the main media drive as well as a smaller media drive on my homegroup and network, and the computers can see them, but when trying to connect, it times out and asked if i wanted to diagnose the problem. The only folder on the computer that i was able to broadcast was a folder in Documents on the C Drive. Is there a special trick for the other internal drives to be seen over the network, or is this just not possible?

Both partitions give me the option to stripe them but when I use the wizard the other drive doesn't show up to allow me to raid to it! Both drives have partitions on them at the moment, but I was under the impression that this will make a raid partition rather than a drive.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two 1.5TB WD HDs that I am going to use soley for storage, these will not be for the OS drive. If I place them in a Windows 7 Software RAID 1 configuration, and say my main OS drive was to fail. I would have to rebuild my OS drive on a new HD. Now when I do this, will the new install of Windows 7 I do at the time pick up my previous Windows 7 Software RAID 1 for my storage drives or do I lose the array? I am scared that if I lost my OS drive, my R1 storage array would go as well if Windows 7 keeps some kind of settings or configuraiton to manage the array.

It was built by his son in law and that son in law doesn't really have time to work on it anymore so fortunately "end of sarcasm" that responsibility falls on me.Computer was running great until about two or three months ago where after shutting it down for the night and turning it back on in the morning would cause the computer to reboot three times after going through POST and during 4th time he was able to boot into OS (WIN7 64bit). I updated his bios and that seemed to fix the problem, BUT the computer was set in a Raid 1, but for some reason it is no longer set up that way. I see both HDD as separate HDD in "My Computer" C: & D:, both are 600GB with about 400GB of space free. How can I return them into their raid 1 configuration? MOBO is GA-X58A-UD7 Rev 2, Intel Core i7 970 cpu with 12GB DDR3 RAM Total. He has about $10,000 worth of programs on it (Electrical & Mechanical Engineer) and it would take me weeks if I had to start from scratch.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently sold a pair of drives which i had installed Windows 7 onto.The drives were configured as AHCI in the bios.The buyer has come back to me witht he following message: i received the hard drives today. i can install windowsd 7 in the 2 drives. whats wrong? i try in raid mode and non raid mode and nothing.says that i can install files in this discs. what operating system was there befShort of them being damaged in transit I cannot see any reason why they would not allow Windows 7 to install on themAm I missing something? View 5 Replies View Relatedanyways, my main drive is a RAID 0 with Vista x64, but I have a second HD that is a SATA 250GB, which I installed Windows 7 on. The only way I could get install to work was to switch my BIOS to IDE mode rather than RAID. I would of course though, like to be able to access my Vista drive from Windows 7 (and more importantly, not have to switch between IDE/RAID mode at all in the BIOS, it's a pain).
Now, the one odd this about this all is that the drivers I have for Vista (x86/x64 drivers) for this mobo's RAID controller WORK when loaded on installation to identify and install to the drive, but seem to not load or not work in any way once the first reboot on install occurs. Maybe this is because I installed from within Vista x64, though.
(Incedentally, my motherboard is an M3A Asus, using ATI's SB600 for a RAID controller)
I've tried loading the drivers from within Windows 7 while in IDE mode, but the install program won't let me. At first it didn't allow because of version restrictions, but then I altered the ini file to get around that, but it encounters some sort of error when installing and quits.
Any help that can be offered, would be grateful. I realise it's a beta and not a real release, so I can get past the BSOD from my odd setup, and I really am enjoying playing around with it so far. Very very impressed.
Edit: Just in case anyone thinks of suggesting me to right-click the inf file and install that way, already tried, won't allow for it.
I am in the process of putting (5) 3TB HDD's into my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) to rip my Blu-ray collection to for playback in my home theater room via a Popcorn Hour player. Each drive is independent and I will be systematically filling one drive before going onto the next.The problem is that the Popcorn Hour players communicate with the PC by specifying one folder via SMB that contains all of my media. Since I am doing independent drives, there will be one master folder on each drive containing all of the media for that said drive. Meaning, in terms of the Popcorn Hour/SMB setup, there are five folders I need it to *see* and catalog.

2x 500GB WD Black drives in RAID 0
1x 120GB ADATA S510 SSD
In BIOS, RAID mode is enabled. You cannot enable RAID for one pair of drives and AHCI separately. I was assuming disks that are not part of the logical RAID volumes would be set to AHCI automatically. I have enabled NCQ in AMD RaidExpert for the SSD.WEI is 5.9 for the primary disk. The primary disk is the SSD.Other strange behanivour is that the RAID array and the SSD both appear as SCSI devices in device manager, and Windows won't accept the ahci drivers from ECS.
I need to flash some roms on a graphics card and a disk controller card, but both require the use of a 'boot floppy' (i'm adding that in quotes as this is totally alien to me!
I suppose this means some sort of ancient dos thing!
I've really tried against all odds to eliminate floppy and serial / PS2 devices from my life, and now I've achieved this, and my loft is far too dusty to be crawling around in trying to find such things again!

I tried making my usb stick bootable as I did in the wonderful thread on this forum to install RC1 and it worked a dream, but i'm guessing this isn't the same thing is it .
I was trying to make a dual boot system and came across this problem. I have two HDDs, one with Win XP in it and other in which I am trying to load Win 7. I made a primary partition (NTFS) through Win XP in the second HDD (labelled it I) and started loading Win 7 through a bootable pendrive. Things went fine till the installation was complete. Then, when I restarted the system, there was no Boot manager screen, Win 7 just started booting the system ! When I looked into the file system, the partition in which Win7 was installed (I: ) was labelled to C (whereas C was the name of the partition in which Win XP is installed !).
I have two queries:
1. Is it possible to install Win 7 in drive labelled I only (I understand that physically it is the same drive in which I had intended to install it). That's because a small sys. reserved folder is getting created which (most probably) is storing the swap data.
2. How to get the boot manager screen option ie. get the selection screen in the beginning to select b/w XP and 7.
I want to make dual boot because of battlefield 3 does not support XP. So, I have the disc with partitions C and D. There is Windows XP installed on D. I dont want to lose my data from D so my question is if i can format the C partition and install Windows 7 there without losing the data on D.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI decided to use DigitalRiver to download my copy of Windows 7 and I will NEVER use them again. They have no phone or tech support; the only way to contact them is by email, in which a response can take many days.
It took me over 10 hours to download their download manager. While the DM seems to work OK, I keep getting the same error message near/at the end of the unpacking:
"We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only"
So while I wait for some intelligent response from them, I'm trying to create a bootable DVD but I'm not having any luck. I've tried using BurnAware and UltraISO yet every time I reboot, the DVD never boots...any ideas on exact steps to take?
I have an HP desktop computer that I just bought an SSD for. I made the "recovery media" disks, I'm assuming that's the OS backed up? I want to make the SSD my boot drive. I put in the disks and unplugged the HDD and plugged in the SSD and I'm at a screen called "Recovery Manager". Do I do the "factory reset" to install the OS on this SSD?

The computer simply shows a black screen after it goes through the BIOS screens. Pressing F8 to enter Safe Mode does not work at all.This issue has arisen after I tried installing a video card (XFX Geforce 8800 GTX) without uninstalling my old video drivers. It's still a mystery to me how installing the card would cause problems with Windows or my hard drivesHere's what I've done so far to troubleshoot:I created a System Recovery boot disk because I lack the original Windows 7 installation cd. System Restore does not work, nor does the Image function. System Repair simply hangs for an unbelievable amount of time.
After scanning my hard drives for various info, I found out that my first hdd is listed as NTFS, yet my second one is RAW. Subsequently, the C: drive is also listed as RAW, and I cannot use Chkdsk.exe on it. Through a cmd prompt, I used Bootrec.exe /FixMbr and /FixBoot, but it did not seem to fix the issue. I also used Bootrec.exe /ScanOs to see if the Windows 7 installation still existed, yet it came up with nothing.I've managed to use a program called RAID Reconstructor, via a PE Builder boot disk, in order to copy all my hard drives' sectors over to my external hard drive. The external is now hooked up to a second PC that I'm using to troubleshootIt seems that all of my personal files are intact and working perfectly fine, and the file names are also correct. I don't really know how to check my Windows/System32 files for corruption.I'd like to fix Windows 7 without having to format the hard drives. Since I lack the Windows 7 installation cd, I can only install Windows XP while lacking 64-bit support. Since I'd like to avoid this, I was wondering if there was a way to get Windows 7 back up and running. But I suppose this isn't possible without getting my second hdd back to NTFS format.
my goal is to boot windows 7 x64 with raid-1. My boot drive is a SSD, which is not part of the raid array. I have 3 seagate ST2000DM001 that I want in raid-1. I have tried installing windows 7 with ahci in bios first but no luck. I was able to boot from raid1 when I started bios out in raid but my ssd drives read/write speeds significantly decreases.

I have an m5a99x evo motherboard by asus. My problem is that whenever i turn on the raid in bios, press control+f, and set the 2 drives in raid 1, windows 7 cannot boot. If i select the restore, i cannot access my system image from my external hard drive and it cannot solve the problem on its own.
I have a 6TB raid array consisting of 2 3TB drives. I have the latest Motherboard with EFI bios. The Intel RST utility allowed me to set up this array, and it says it is bootable. I would like this to be my C: drive.
How can I get Windows 7 to install and boot from this array.
I just recently purchased a SSD (OCZ Vertex 3 60GB). I wanted to use it for Intel RST with my 500GB HDD. I went into BIOS and changed to RAID and i installed my OS. Everything was fine so I installed all the important drivers and reset. When it booted up again the RST sign came up and i accelerated my drive. Then when i reset my system it says "BOOTMGR is missing". So i poped in my windows recovery disk to try and fix it but the windows doesnt detect my drives.

all the drives are functioning, intel software isnt reporting any drive issues, basic drivers are up to date.
I installed a Rosewell RC-217 Raid card (Silicon Image Sil 3124 SoftRaid 5 Controller-- in Device Manager). The card installed well in Windows 7 64 bit. No problems in device manager.The problem starts when i plug the drive in then rebooted. The boot stops at the 'Starting Window' and hangs. If i boot into windows then plug the drive in all work well. Windows sees the drive and i gave it a drive letter. works great.Problem is i can't boot my system without un-pluging the drive.

I have setup a partition which I transfered from on drive to another and now my boot partition is on an SSD Raid array connected to an LSI 9260 controller. If I boot the computer with the RAID Array first, the computer will just hang there. No message no nothing after the Verify DMI success message. If I setup my computer to boot from CD first and the the RAID Array second and with a bootable CD in the drive, the BIOS will display the "Press any key to boot from CD" If I don't touch anything, then windows will load just fine when the boot sequence switches to the RAID Array.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a refurb Dell XPS 420 w/ Q9300, running Vista Home Premium x64 and downloaded/installed an activated version of Win 7 Ult x64 on an 80GB SSD [Sata1] I bought for it; dual booted w/ Vista x64 on old hard drive [Sata0].
Windows 7 x64 was running stable and instantly fast, I wanted to enable RAID0 on the old hard drive [Sata0] and another new hard drive [Sata2]
I entered Intel Maxtrix Storage Manager (Ctrl-I), creating a RAID0 volume on [Sata0] and [Sata2].
After reboot, it says "No boot device available" after BOIS screen.
My subsequent boot attempts include (roughly in order):
1. disable RAID0 volume, boot to [Sata1]
2. disable [Sata0] and [Sata2], boot to [Sata1]
3. disable [Sata1], boot to CD/DVD-drive (Windows 7 install/boot)
4. disable CD/DVD-drive, boot to USB flash (Windows 7 install/boot)
I have done some digging around and cannot seem to find a solution. I have the use of my notebook (w/ broken DVD burner, still reads) running Windows 7 Ult x86 so apparently I cannot make my USB flash drive x64 bootable from what I've read. I also have 2-USB hard drives (80/250GB) and an eSata 2x docking station available, but no eSata on notebook.
Hope I gave enough info for someone to come up with an easy fix. If I could boot to the Windows 7 x64 install DVD that I made with the non-booting PC, I would have just done a clean install by now, but it refuses to boot to the CD/DVD drive. It actually wouldn't even boot to DVD to install Windows 7 x64 in the first place, I had to install from Vista. Also I do not have a Vista x64 install disk either.
After flashing the bios, my computer could not find the OS. The options displayed recommended that I try to repair the OS, so I made that selection with no joy. I went into the bios setup and found that it was no longer setup for my raid 1 drives, so reconfigured. When I did this, I missed setting the SATA 4/5 to IDE and went through the process again of trying to repair the OS. Once again, that did not work.
I went back into the bios and discovered my oversight, fixed it, but the computer still does not recognize my raid drives. The raid bios setup utility still shows a valid array. At this point, my assumption is that it doesn't recognize the array drive because the driver isn't loading, so I've tried to reload the drivers. The motherboard manual only describes how to do this when installing a new operating system and I do not want to lose my programs. Do you have any suggestions?
