View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I am trying to create a batch file that will copy certain folders from the My Documents and Program Files 86 folders. Of course these are protected. I can make a batch file and use robocopy to copy other files just fine. How can I set admin privileges? Or whatever it is I need to do to make it work? I am using group policy editor to run the bat file on shutdown.
Example:
Robocopy C:Folder D:Folder
that works fine...but when I try copying files out of Program Files x86 or My Documents the batch fails
I recently reformatted my hard disk and re-installed Windows 7, and when I try to edit any files in the subdirectories off any on the directories in the C:Program Files directory, I get 'protected' errors. I found that I could not create files or edit files anywhere below these directories.It turns out that everything in the Program Files folder and below is write protected. I tried changing one of the subfolder's properties and marked everything as Not Read-only, but I still couldn't create/edit files there.I was running Windows 7 before the hard disk crapped out, and I was able to modify the au3.propertied file with no problem.I know that Microsoft wants to put all data files in the C:User... directories, but the program I'm trying to change is AutoIt (SciTE), and I don't think here's a way to change the location of the properties files.I Googled in the Windows 7 support site and found a link to a video telling how to work around this. You have to change permissions of the parent folder and all files/folders below it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an "server" with windows 7 ultimate running. Here I have earlier shared the whole hard disks and no protection everyone on the network could access them.
But now I would like to share folders to specified peoplecomputers. iv'e made user accounts on the computer and chosen to share only with them. But the problem then is that I cant access the server anymore, and I don't get an option to log in to the server, only an error message that I don't have permission.
The computers are part of an network run by an sbs 2011 with an domain. no log in over the network. When i find the server on an other computer and try to open it I only get an error message.
If I than share an folder with everyone alowed to se it, I can connect to the computer and see the shared folders, but cant acsess the ones with password only the one without and I still don't get an option to log in.
I can't disable "password protected sharing" in Win7 (home premium, came pre-installed on new laptop, less than a week old). I can disable the setting in advanced network settings and save, and it stays saved when i re-open settings, but no matter what I change, whenever I try to open the network share from an XP machine it challenges me for a login/password.

I created a second user last night and found a few folders in My Documents for the 2nd user had come from a Users/Public folder, when they were made in My Documents of the first user. So I went into the Users folder and looked into my first user and was able to access any folder despite being in the 2nd user. In Win XP I'd be blocked from accessing that folder because the user is password protected; in Win 7 that seems to be a security flaw since I'm not blocked.

Windows prompts me for a username and password and once I input this info, the same prompt shows up again.I have realised the domain it uses in the prompt (for username and password) is the same as the machine name and I have no field to input the domain manually.

My thing is that I've managed to take ownership of my slave drive; formerly in a tower - now trying to access it thru my windows 7 laptop. Ive taken ownership of " my documents," but it doesn't seem like it took; I still have to take ownership of every folder in it individually when I go into it. I just ran avast and have run malwarebytes and AVG and all have reported and removed affected files. But I still have the same problem. For example, I try to download the new adobe flash from the adobe site, I then hit run when prompted. It then gets stuck at retrieving the file until the error appears: "Installation encountered errors Actionlist not found".
I try to update malwarebyes and receive: "An error has occurred. Please report this issue to our support team (include the content of all error message(s) and code(s) in your submission). PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (0,0, Host not found).
I download it from their website and instantly "The ordinal 459 could not be located in the dynamic link library urlmon.dll." Google isn't turning anything up, I'd uninstall my current version and try that, but I'm afraid that it still won't work and then I'll be stuck without any Flash Player at all?I've run a registry cleaner already but didn't fix it.

The only software I found till now which comes closest to my needs is Protected Folder, however you have to open the program each time and unlock the folder you want to use, then re lock it when ready, it's not so straightforward as I was imagining. Also I don't know if access will be blocked from other users on the network, once the folder is shared.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a Toshiba Satellite L735D with Windows 7 Home Premium OA and I attempted to set an admistrator password for the first time. I recieved and error that said "Windows can not change the password".Also I added a new folder to the desktop and it will not allow me to change the name. It gives me an error saying the folder is no longer located at the location. If I cancel the rename the folder is there.I starting thinking these issues may be related? This was a demo computer for the store I purchased it at. I wonder if there is some setting left over eventhough they removed the demo software and their admistrator account.
