View 1 RepliesI have an "server" with windows 7 ultimate running. Here I have earlier shared the whole hard disks and no protection everyone on the network could access them.
But now I would like to share folders to specified peoplecomputers. iv'e made user accounts on the computer and chosen to share only with them. But the problem then is that I cant access the server anymore, and I don't get an option to log in to the server, only an error message that I don't have permission.
The computers are part of an network run by an sbs 2011 with an domain. no log in over the network. When i find the server on an other computer and try to open it I only get an error message.
If I than share an folder with everyone alowed to se it, I can connect to the computer and see the shared folders, but cant acsess the ones with password only the one without and I still don't get an option to log in.
Can we create a password protected folder??? without any software...i ve figerprint reader in my laptop can i use it for password..

I want to make USB write Protect on My Computer and when I use My USB on another computer or my friend bring this USB and use it on his computer, then it should be write protect Automatically.

I can disable the setting in advanced network settings and save, and it stays saved when i re-open settings, but no matter what I change, whenever I try to open the network share from an XP machine it challenges me for a login/password.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI created a second user last night and found a few folders in My Documents for the 2nd user had come from a Users/Public folder, when they were made in My Documents of the first user. So I went into the Users folder and looked into my first user and was able to access any folder despite being in the 2nd user. In Win XP I'd be blocked from accessing that folder because the user is password protected; in Win 7 that seems to be a security flaw since I'm not blocked.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from windows XP to 7. The problem is I can no longer connect to my shares on the server. Windows prompts me for a username and password and once I input this info, the same prompt shows up again.I have realised the domain it uses in the prompt (for username and password) is the same as the machine name and I have no field to input the domain manually.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my hard disk and re-installed Windows 7, and when I try to edit any files in the subdirectories off any on the directories in the C:Program Files directory, I get 'protected' errors. I found that I could not create files or edit files anywhere below these directories. It turns out that everything in the Program Files folder and below is write protected. I tried changing one of the subfolder's properties and marked everything as Not Read-only, but I still couldn't create/edit files there.I was running Windows 7 before the hard disk crapped out, and I was able to modify the au3.propertied file with no problem.I know that Microsoft wants to put all data files in the C:User... directories, but the program I'm trying to change is AutoIt (SciTE), and I don't think here's a way to change the location of the properties files.I Googled in the Windows 7 support site and found a link to a video telling how to work around this. You have to change permissions of the parent folder and all files/folders below it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI really use the functionality of win xp explorer regularly (e.g., moving files to new folders as the project status changes). Is there a way to make win 7 explorer look and act like xp explorer. I also like the search feature of xp explorer and the fact that I can easily see the path name, creation and modification date. All of that stuff is essential for my work. If there is not a way to truly make win 7 professional act like the xp explorer (i.e., efficiently) is there a program I can use to take over this function?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to make Windows 7 User folder private?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP there was an option where I could make all my user folders and files in my profile private. In Windows 7 I just cant find the setting anywhere. I have two users on my computer. Me (as administrator) and my girlfriend (as standard user)
Whenever she is doing a search or browse the folders on the computer she gets a lot of results and all my documents and pictures is showing up. No restriction at all. She can delete, edit and so on. I can (obviously) do the same to her files and folders. We both have password protected profiles.
When ever I do a search all her files / mail and documents shows up, because the indexing service is generally at one configuration. All users can search/browse all files in every profile on the computer.
In Windows XP that simply did not happen.
SÃ¥ where is the setting to make my private folders/files private? if there is a simple way. It seems like Microsoft forgot something otherwise.

Its awfully difficult for someone like me who has a huge amount of categorization to find what he is looking for due to the lack of functionality that the folder thumbnails have in this version of Windows. Yeah, sure they look all pretty, but its difficult to even figure out what the general picture contents of the folder is unless you're already very familiar with it.
