The password he used when he first started up his laptop would show as he typed it but now it does not. It only shows dots as he calls them when he types. He wants it to show. Is there a setting that can be changed? I have been unable to locate that setting on my laptop to tell him how. Its windows 7.
View 5 RepliesIt seems that scheduled tasks are only visible by their author or by administrators. We would like to create a task that is visible and usable by any user on the computer. In Windows XP, there was an NTFS tab on a task's properties window, but it's missing in Windows 7. It might be a matter of setting the permissions correctly on the folder that contains the actual task files, but contrary to what I assumed, this folder doesn't seem to be C:WindowsTasks. I don't see the task I imported in this folder, and setting correct permissions on it still doesn't make my task visible to simple users.

This machine has never had a password and I am at a loss as to what is wrong. This machine has previously been running well for over six months. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my pc configured for music production. I have multiple drives installed (6 in total). The issue is this : the boot drive where windows 7 is installed is OK , but windows boot process freezes at the startup logo screen and does not go past this stage. After investigation I found out that when one of the other drives is faulty. Windows does not boot. If you disconnect the faulty drive .. then windows BOOTS normally.
No message is displayed during the windows startup phase. Is there a way to configure windows such that It ignores the bad drive at startup. It seems that windows waits for the drive indefinitely and jams there not timing up after some time.
My netbook - a Toshiba nb305 - is inexplicably not accepting my password, nor that of my wife's who has a separate user account. We know the passwords we're inputting are correct, so have no explanation. We have ensured that the CAPS lock and NUM locks are off (and we've tried entering passwords with them on) so that's not the problem. I'm presently holidaying in Greece, and the netbook was working perfectly on the plane journey over here. Came to use it in the hotel, and it is having this problem. Tried starting in Safe Mode also but same problem occurs.

But now I would like to share folders to specified peoplecomputers. iv'e made user accounts on the computer and chosen to share only with them. But the problem then is that I cant access the server anymore, and I don't get an option to log in to the server, only an error message that I don't have permission.
The computers are part of an network run by an sbs 2011 with an domain. no log in over the network. When i find the server on an other computer and try to open it I only get an error message.
If I than share an folder with everyone alowed to se it, I can connect to the computer and see the shared folders, but cant acsess the ones with password only the one without and I still don't get an option to log in.

Want to know if their is anyway to make my laptop startup w/o showing error when it doesnt properly shutdown.My keyboard shorted out,wiggled the ribbon & the connector came off the motherboard.I have no usb keyboards.So if i don't shut down properly,it shows the error message with options.Usually startup repair is highlighted by default.And since I have no keyboard to change the option,it starts that automatically after countdown & I can't cancel it.
It's very irritating.I just been using the on screen keyboard,I actually don't mind that.I know just shutting it down properly will fix this.But their is times where I lose power to laptop sometimes.Im not a noob,I normally leave my laptop plugged up w/o battery when I use it.Sometimes the plug comes out(dogs knock it out etc.).I know most laptops are supposed to stop sending a charge to batt once it's 100%.But I think it's bs & don't trust it.My preference & opinion
getting past the windows 7 startup password on my laptop. It wasn't there before, but this morning I tried getting on and it won't let me enter safe mode or the boot menu. It's a black screen with a blue rectange that says "enter current password" I have tried doing the ctrl alt delete thing and F2, F8 and F12.. But nothing works!

As I'm the sole user, I never enabled any sort of login; it just boots right to the desktop. Now I'm getting ready to take a trip, and I'll be packing the laptop in my checked luggage, so I think it would be a good idea to require a login password in case the laptop disappears. How do I enable that, and how do I disable it when I'm back home? As an aside, is this adequate security (assuming a strong pwd)? I assume someone would have to reformat the disk and reinstall Windows to make the laptop usable again, but what do I know?

The drive works fine, ImgBurn works fine, all other programs seem to see the files on a disk fine, they just don't show up in Windows Explorer. I click on the drive in the "Navigation Pane" and nothing happens. I've tried two good DVD drives, uninstalled ImgBurn and PowerISO, still nothing.
