View 6 RepliesI have a Dell Inspiron 620 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and all of a sudden I cannot open any secured site and log on, such as banking sites, gmail, facebook and so on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been having abyssmal internet speeds (like .1mb/s down when I am used to haven't at least 3-4 mb/s down). This is when I noticed that a homegroup was created on my network by a PC that is not associated with anything in my household. My wireless has always been secured with WPA-TKIP, but I guess someone has been able to get into my network and create a homegroup on it. So I obviously can't remove the homegroup since I don't have the homegroup password or access to the PC that created it (since it's kind of obvious some one has started stealing bandwidth recently). I went ahead and changed all of my router wireless security settings, but my concern is that my network can still be accessed through the homegroup that the intruder created even without the new keys. This PC is not showing on my network, however it isn't all that difficult to hide yourself. I would also like to know if there's any way for me to get this homegroup off my network completely since I may want to use the homegroup functionality at some point down the line.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an "server" with windows 7 ultimate running. Here I have earlier shared the whole hard disks and no protection everyone on the network could access them.
But now I would like to share folders to specified peoplecomputers. iv'e made user accounts on the computer and chosen to share only with them. But the problem then is that I cant access the server anymore, and I don't get an option to log in to the server, only an error message that I don't have permission.
The computers are part of an network run by an sbs 2011 with an domain. no log in over the network. When i find the server on an other computer and try to open it I only get an error message.
If I than share an folder with everyone alowed to se it, I can connect to the computer and see the shared folders, but cant acsess the ones with password only the one without and I still don't get an option to log in.
it seems that I have forgotten my password. How can I retrevie it or make anew one/

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe password he used when he first started up his laptop would show as he typed it but now it does not. It only shows dots as he calls them when he types. He wants it to show. Is there a setting that can be changed? I have been unable to locate that setting on my laptop to tell him how. Its windows 7.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop (home) and Windows 7 x64 Pro on my laptops. I bring my personal laptop to work which I use for emails and browsing. There is sensitive information that I would not like to share for obvious reasons. I am running into a problem making sure the information is not in "shared" mode while at work.
Work has their own network, which I am unable to connect to because the Sys Admin is lazy and will won't provide me a VPN connection directly to the system. So what I have done is use the public WiFi that we make available to our customers and connect through my own VPN off the public WiFi system. I want to make sure that I am not inadvertently sharing documents or other information doing so. When I connect to the network at work I use the "Public" setting.
What makes it more difficult is I have a similar situation at home, in which we have one internet connection through a router coming in and several people use the system. The location of the router is actually upstairs where I do not have access to, I use a Netgear WNR2000 v2 (I rent out rooms in my house), so I am forced to connect to the router wireless.
I personally am not a gamer, but one of the tenants is. I almost always use my VPN service at home to connect, but I am unsure if this is the correct set-up. I don't want to share my printers, video, etc. with everyone in the house. I am using Norton 360 for protection with Firewalls and Anti-virus software. I connect through Golden Frog VPN service for security.
I am going to connect my desktop Gigabit switch with my devices but again want my system secure, but not limited because of my situation. It is safe using the router for access and then creating this "sub-network" for my devices (for the router I am the admin)? Is there a better method or suggestion that one might have. I would really appreciate the input for this complicated matter. Should I change my workgroup for home and work? Currently its the default WORKGROUP domain for both.
I am running windows 7 with a AMD X2 5600+ 4 GB DDR 800 and a 9800GT EE I am running windows 7 right now with 1300mb in use and 2700 free, around that. Anyway I was wondering if there is a way to speed things up by using more memory, would disabling virtual memory help? These might be stupid questions but they are worth asking for me but not someone smarter. Anyway I would like to be able to have the operating system use more ram and be able to run games better. I am running 64 bit.
If anyone has any negative comments about my system please hold off because I am excited with how cheap I put this system together, I know it's not up to date but I can put it to some good use.
I just got a new laptop with a 7200rpm HD and a 32gb SSD. I'm not sure how to make sure Windows 7 is installed onto the SSD instead of the other drive, could somebody please teach me? I googled it but all of the answered that came up are very complex, I don't understand it.

For the past week my computer will sometimes put itself in sleep mode while I am using it. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing games, word processing or on the internet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know quite a bit about computers, and this is my custom build. I upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram in June, but my budget ran short of getting an optical which used SATA. yesterday was my birthday and I was able to purchase myself a new optical drive. The problem is. Last night I opened my case, put it in, power and data cables and then my computer won't boot correctly. This also happened when I first upgraded, but the problem isn't being solved this time. My keyboard only lights up when I flip the PSU power switch on the back. When I boot up I get no lights on my keyboard, my monitor light stays orange, all fans, etc turn on inside the case. I tried unplugging the new drive and starting it, with it's previous configuration, but that will not work. I have tried spamming the key to get into the BIOS, which is what worked in June when I was getting no video.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my dell computer. When I was deleting partitions I noticed a Dell OEM partition. It was very small so I didn't delete this.
My thought was, if I ever wanted to sell this computer I would need to put Vista back on the computer and was afraid that my OEM disk would not work because I had deleted the partition.
I want to be able to put any computer back to the same state when purchased in order to avoid locking my Retail Version to one computer.
Does this little OEM partition have any bearing on the ability to revert the computer back to the original state?
If so, those of you putting retail might want to keep that partion available.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got the idea of putting my c: drive with windows 7 into a removable rack. The idea was that I could put windows xp on a separate hard drive and swap between to two (machine powered down of course). The thought was that I'd have two independent computers in one box. I know I could dual boot, but like i said this was for grins. It almost worked. with the c: drive moved to the rack, win 7 booted up and ran just fine. i shut down, swapped drives and did an install of xp on the new disk. although it was assigned drive letter d:, it loaded and ran fine. So I shut down to swap back.
After putting the windows 7 drive back into the machine, windows wouldn't load. I got an error message saying that the windows/system 32/hal.dll file was corrupt or missing. I checked the drive, it wasn't missing, so...corrupt. Using the 7 dvd, i was able to do a startup repair and am back up and running. Is what I'm attempting possible? if so, how would I go about making sure that both os'es boot properly when the corresponding drive is in the rack?
I just got my computer up and running today. My next step is to install win 7 on it. So i got win 7 pro 64 bit through digital river with a sweet student discount and also a back up disc that came in the mail. I have noticed that it says upgrade on it though. I have been hearing and being told so many different things that i can not tell what is true.
Please only post an answer if you are certain it is correct
Thank you and with that being said here are my questions
Questions:
Could someone please explain to me what i am exactly supposed to do with the backup disc?
Can i use this on a new computer, ie one without any os on it already?
A friend referred me to this site. It sounds very confusing and i am not very tech savvy when it comes to things like this. Will i need to install it onto a different computer in order to do this boot-able upgrade? does the back up disc come into play? Could someone please explain the instructions in a very simplistic way.
