May 9, 2012I have a Dell Inspiron 620 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and all of a sudden I cannot open any secured site and log on, such as banking sites,gmail,facebook and so on.

Jun 12, 2011Recently I've been having abyssmal internet speeds (like .1mb/s down when I am used to haven't at least 3-4 mb/s down). This is when I noticed that a homegroup was created on my network by a PC that is not associated with anything in my household. My wireless has always been secured with WPA-TKIP, but I guess someone has been able to get into my network and create a homegroup on it. So I obviously can't remove the homegroup since I don't have the homegroup password or access to the PC that created it (since it's kind of obvious some one has started stealing bandwidth recently). I went ahead and changed all of my router wireless security settings, but my concern is that my network can still be accessed through the homegroup that the intruder created even without the new keys. This PC is not showing on my network, however it isn't all that difficult to hide yourself. I would also like to know if there's any way for me to get this homegroup off my network completely since I may want to use the homegroup functionality at some point down the line.

Sep 10, 2011I am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop (home) and Windows 7 x64 Pro on my laptops. I bring my personal laptop to work which I use for emails and browsing. There is sensitive information that I would not like to share for obvious reasons. I am running into a problem making sure the information is not in "shared" mode while at work.
Work has their own network, which I am unable to connect to because the Sys Admin is lazy and will won't provide me a VPN connection directly to the system. So what I have done is use the public WiFi that we make available to our customers and connect through my own VPN off the public WiFi system. I want to make sure that I am not inadvertently sharing documents or other information doing so. When I connect to the network at work I use the "Public" setting.
What makes it more difficult is I have a similar situation at home, in which we have one internet connection through a router coming in and several people use the system. The location of the router is actually upstairs where I do not have access to, I use a Netgear WNR2000 v2 (I rent out rooms in my house), so I am forced to connect to the router wireless.
I personally am not a gamer, but one of the tenants is. I almost always use my VPN service at home to connect, but I am unsure if this is the correct set-up. I don't want to share my printers, video, etc. with everyone in the house. I am using Norton 360 for protection with Firewalls and Anti-virus software. I connect through Golden Frog VPN service for security.
I am going to connect my desktop Gigabit switch with my devices but again want my system secure, but not limited because of my situation. It is safe using the router for access and then creating this "sub-network" for my devices (for the router I am the admin)? Is there a better method or suggestion that one might have. I would really appreciate the input for this complicated matter. Should I change my workgroup for home and work? Currently its the default WORKGROUP domain for both.

Jun 22, 2012When browsing a website that I have pinned to my taskbar (Facebook for example) I've noticed that the pages take longer than usual to load. When it does load, the page becomes very choppy when I'm scrolling up/down and is generally slow to respond. It's the same for any website I have pinned to my taskbar.
The strange thing is, If I open up IE9 (non-pinned) and browse using the address bar everything is smooth and fast. I've cleared my temp internet files and reset IE to default settings with no luck. I've also tried un-pining then re-pinning website but it's still the same. Is there a way I can clear the cache for individual pinned sites?

Jan 29, 2012We have just been sent a free computer for our office. A Windows 7 HP 32bit.We can login locally i think to a local user KB_SUF/User (where KB_SUF is the name of the computer)however whenever the UAC comes up when installing anything, we cannot proceed because it keeps saying "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request" The thing is they sent us the computer without removing it from the domain Now I cant install the programs i need to work and it doesnt seem like theres a local admin on this computer. I tried removing this computer from the domain but it requires going through UAC.Is there any way to make this computer a Local only PC?The company that sent us the computer is in another country and they say they can send someone over in 6 months which is longer than i can wait.

Screen Flashing On Certain Sites?

i keep my PC switched on for days on end, i'm also logged onto these sites, but sometimes i get the screen flashing, nothing i can do to stop it unless i restart my PC and it's fine until it starts again, it can be a day, to a few days
i think it may be facebook, as when i'm not on this site, it seems to be fine.
do you think it's a flash problem or something else i've just uninstalled flash & reinstalled to see if it's going to help
IE Fails To Render Some Sites?
Feb 14, 2012This is the second install on older hardware (Intel 945gm chipset) within two months that has IE9 unreliability, with some sites failing to render at all.I have reinstalled flash player, Java, reset Internet Options to default, and it still just hangs there. This is very annoying. I had a similar situation two months ago and ended up installing Firefox to solve it. Is this a known issue? Is there are decent troubleshooter?

Dec 17, 2009I just got a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. We have a Netgear cable modem / wireless router. Comcast is the service provider. My other two computers connect and load pages without any issue. However, my new laptop connects without issue, the browser boots up just fine, and google comes up right away.
Here's the strange part: It only loads pages from Google! Whenever I go to another website, the browser finds the start, begins loading very slowly, then stops when the progress bar reaches about halfway. Again, my other two computers ( a laptop and a desktop ) both connect fine. They are both running XP.
I thought it might be a problem with the browser, so I went to starbucks with the new laptop and tried using the wifi there. All pages loaded perfectly there without issue. That's why I'm guessing Comcast is involved in this problem.
When I got back home, I tried using Firefox 3.5 and back to the same problem. I noticed that in addition to Google, Reuters News loads as well. Skype is also running without any problem.
Any clue if there is a setting in Windows 7 I need to change, or is this something I need to call Comcast about?

Nov 2, 2011Now the problem: simply put, I cannot connect to any ftp site (even tp.microsoft.com). I strongly believe this has something to do with my computer itself, but I've done endless searches on google and tried several solutions to no avail. Here is a list of what I have tried thus far:-Connecting using the command prompt. On the command prompt I've typed in "ftp ftp.microsoft.com" and it goes straight to the "ftp>" . Whenever I try to use a command the prompt responds with a "Not connected". However, if I ping the ftp server it does respond like it should.-Using software ftp clients (Firezilla, SmartFTP, etc.). I put in the necessary information and that's basically as far as it gets.-Checking "Enable Passive FTP" in IE. That did zip.
-Adjusted Firewall settings... (based on suggestions from forums and such). To the best of my knowledge, everything set as it should. The settings I adjusted were on Windows FirewallThis is what leads me to believe it is my computer that is the problem because when I use this web-based clients its pretty much the only thing that works and I am able to manipulate the files just fine.That's pretty much all my attempts in various forms and google searches. I should also note that I am connected wirelessly to my school's network, but the network doesn't seem to be the problem because I tried connecting using my roomate's laptop and it connected just fine.

It's extremely URL-specific, for example, one particular video on Vimeo won't add in Firefox, but other videos on the same site, with the same URL style, will. No problem adding the "problem" bookmarks as favorites in IE8.
Why is Firefox so finicky about refusing to add some sites to the bookmark list and is there a workaround?
This is on Win7x64. It's an older Firefox version (3.5.19), but not ancient.

A couple would not allow me to change to a new password, even after I was sent temporary passwords to use to do that.
