earlier today my wi-fi sort of cut out i guess. it will only let me access a few websites (this being one of the only tech websites i could get to work off google) like google and Internet. say i type in yahoo.com in the address bar, after i go to it, it will sit there loading forever. i'm not sure what happen'd because this is the first time ive seen this.
View 6 Repliesjust last night after i was finished playing skyrim for the night, i saw on steam that i had no connection. so i looked towards the internet bars icon next to the clock and saw a yello triangle with a "!" in it. so i disconnected and reconnected but still the yellow "!". so i just decided i would try again tomorrow (today).when i woke up today it didn't have that error, so i decided to go to Internet on chrome, but it had that "webpage not available" (wouldn't work for ie either). i figured it would soon fix itself like it always had, so i tried playing mw3 on my xbox, but it wouldn't connect to live either o.o and when my mom wanted to watch netflix on the living room xbox, she couldn't connect either! then i figured out it was definatly my modem that was refusing to connect to anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNow the problem: simply put, I cannot connect to any ftp site (even tp.microsoft.com). I strongly believe this has something to do with my computer itself, but I've done endless searches on google and tried several solutions to no avail. Here is a list of what I have tried thus far:-Connecting using the command prompt. On the command prompt I've typed in "ftp ftp.microsoft.com" and it goes straight to the "ftp>" . Whenever I try to use a command the prompt responds with a "Not connected". However, if I ping the ftp server it does respond like it should.-Using software ftp clients (Firezilla, SmartFTP, etc.). I put in the necessary information and that's basically as far as it gets.-Checking "Enable Passive FTP" in IE. That did zip.
-Adjusted Firewall settings... (based on suggestions from forums and such). To the best of my knowledge, everything set as it should. The settings I adjusted were on Windows FirewallThis is what leads me to believe it is my computer that is the problem because when I use this web-based clients its pretty much the only thing that works and I am able to manipulate the files just fine.That's pretty much all my attempts in various forms and google searches. I should also note that I am connected wirelessly to my school's network, but the network doesn't seem to be the problem because I tried connecting using my roomate's laptop and it connected just fine.
All three of my browsers (Firefox, Comodo & IE) show up as blank pages. I can access all other sites, except when the URL has an Https on it. Using netstat i saw that port #443 was not in a listening state, yet none of my firewalls, (comodo antivirus, Windows firewall or peerblock) seem to be blocking the port.I am fairly new at this and i cannot restore to a later date as i do not know when this actually started up, and i cannot restore as i have data on this PC that i need, and am unable to backup into any other form.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5542 Laptop running Windows 7 and have had no problems until recently. I went to check my Hotmail and found I could not get to Hotmail.com then my msn messenger signed out and would not sign back in.
I then noticed that I could not get to any Microsoft site but all other sites work fine. I am a computer tech and run a small home network the laptop being the only machine running windows 7 all other run XP or Linux all other machines can access all Microsoft sites so I am pretty sure the problem lies with the laptop, however after running every scan I can think of and coming up empty I wiped the mbr and recreated the hard drive partition and reinstalled windows with the factory restore disks.
Thought about time I asked the experts on this problem I've had for some time.I can be quite happily surfing the net and then if I try to go to a different site I get the message"Looking up www.xyz" where XYZ is the site I want to go to.I have had this problem for months well longer really. The problem is solved with a reset of the router, Now it happens across different routers so I discounted them.I though then it was my internet connection so carried on with a reset of the router.I have recently purchased an internet radio and the odd thing is it carrys on playing music proving my broadband connection is still there.The same happens with IE or Firefox.I am at a loss where to point the finger of blame.

They happened around the same time, thus I believe the problem is linked. It simply says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".The thing is, everything else I use has no problems whatsoever. But after moving my computer to a new room the Internet connection stopped working. Ive ran trouble shooters over and over and it says its a router or adapter issue, but all the other computers in the house are connected to the Internet just fine. I went through the obvious checks (not muted). I was then searching my computer for evidence of the speakers even being recognized, and as far as I can tell they are not. this is how my connection looks like. I got only modem & switch between my connection to the internet. note: I have no fileserver.
I've checked the following things with my other PC(=notebook windows 7 x86): modem, switch, cable and my network card and everything did work fine. note: I did use the same cable as I was using for the desktop PC to be sure that the cableline was fine. I made the next tests with my desktop PC.
Then done the next ones without success:system restore(1 week)winsock fixreinstalling the networkcardgiving static IP adress
My network card settings are the same for the both PC, set to automatically obtain IP address and DNS server addresses
