We bought as exdisplay PC & they told us it would be restored to factory settings. When i start up it immediately tells me user name & password is incorrect. I click okay & it wants me to log into kiosk. From there I have to switch user. I've looked in user accounts a dozen times - there is only on user account (admin) & it's in my name. So where or what is kiosk? I've done the whole "regedit" thing but I don't have a default folder under profiles.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with logging back in after I hibernate the system. It goes to the login page where I enter in my password. The problem is everytime I type in my password, it tells me that I've typed the wrong password. I try to "switch user" and login from there (not sure what the difference is), and that doesn't work either. I always end up having to restart the computer. Then when it gets to the login page, I type in the exact password that I tried to type before, and it works. It's only right after I hibernate that the password stops working.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two computers (laptop and desktop) both with windows 7 ultimate 64bit and I always get "the password or username is incorrect" error when remoting in to my laptop from my desktop, but not to my desktop from my laptop. I have "allowed connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop" under remote settings on both computers. Set up Remote Desktop users allowing "everyone", and checked all firewall setting with AVG and Windows firewall to make sure port 3389 it allowed, as well as disabling the firewalls altogether. But I still get the same error and yes I am absolutely certain the log on info is correct.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI cannot log in after recovering from sleep mode. I receive an 'Incorrect username or password error'. I confirmed I am using the correct username and password (CAPS is off). I found I am able to log in after selecting 'switch user' and then attempting to log in again, so I believe Windows is getting confused. The PC is on a domain so I cannot turn off the option for it to prompt for a password, and I do not wish to turn off the option for sleep mode in order to save power.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy netbook - a Toshiba nb305 - is inexplicably not accepting my password, nor that of my wife's who has a separate user account. We know the passwords we're inputting are correct, so have no explanation. We have ensured that the CAPS lock and NUM locks are off (and we've tried entering passwords with them on) so that's not the problem. I'm presently holidaying in Greece, and the netbook was working perfectly on the plane journey over here. Came to use it in the hotel, and it is having this problem. Tried starting in Safe Mode also but same problem occurs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 x64 on my laptop a few months ago, so I'm the admin on that system. As I'm the sole user, I never enabled any sort of login; it just boots right to the desktop. Now I'm getting ready to take a trip, and I'll be packing the laptop in my checked luggage, so I think it would be a good idea to require a login password in case the laptop disappears. How do I enable that, and how do I disable it when I'm back home? As an aside, is this adequate security (assuming a strong pwd)? I assume someone would have to reformat the disk and reinstall Windows to make the laptop usable again, but what do I know?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a minor technical question I would love help on. I have the UAC on and log in as a standard user for protection. There are a few programs that I would like to run automatically when windows starts that require a password EVERY time I start windows, or if I select them manually. Is there any reason certain programs due to their permissions need an admin password to run and other don't?
I could not find the difference looking in the security section of properties comparing it with a program that runs as an admin. HELP! I would like to run these programs automatically as windows boots without typing in the admin password for each program.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe time on my win 7 x64 ultimate is incorrect. I am in the uk so am on London time. We have recently entered Daylight Saving Time. So the clock should have gone back one hour but it appears to have gone back two! A week ago the time of day now would have been 00:20, the time now should be 23:20 and the time my clock is showing is 22:20. I have looked in control panel > Clock Language Region - and my time zone is set correctly to UTC Dublin Edinburgh Lisbon London as it should be. I try unticking adjust for daylight saving time and click apply but this doesn't even change the time( not even by one hour as it should) it seems to not matter whether it is ticked or unticked, my clock remains an hour behind what the current time actually should be.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe OS on one of my W7 machines doesn't want to keep the correct time and I can't figure out why. The first thing I did was check the BIOS and it keeps the right time. I've gone into date and time and confirmed that the time zone is correct (MST) and even manually set the time several times but it always changes to an incorrect time. I've changed the time sync server to different servers and it has the correct time at first, but inevitably changes within a few minutes to a wrong time. The only thing I can find on google suggest it's the CMOS battery, but it's a new motherboard and the BIOS keeps the correct time, as I've said above. Below is my system specs.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 on my wife's PC that currently has Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit. The PC is a year old and has AMD II X250 cpu's on an ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3N78-EM motherboard with 4 Gb RAM and a 500 Gb hard disk, a NVIDIA GeForce 8300 display adaptor and an Iiyama 17 " monitor. When it first failed I thought it was due to only having 1.85 Gb free of 60 Gb on drive C, so I used Easus to delete drive E with 437 Gb and increase drive C to be the whole 500 Gb. Still no joy, so I looked at the installation guides on the web and realised I had to change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that the CD drive came before the hard disk.
If I try to boot from the Windows 7 Home Premium family pack CD I get the option to boot from CD or DVD, which I accept by hitting a key. The screen then displays "Starting Windows" with a progress bar, after which the Microsoft logo is displayed and then finally the Windows 7 splash screen is displayed. After this, nothing further happens. The mouse cursor moves with the mouse but the keyboard doesn't appear to be active. The CD continues to spin for a while before it too gets bored and shuts down. If I start running XP and then use Windows Explorer to start the setup.exe on the CD I get an error message telling me that I have the incorrect version for the PC.
I have two hard drives, C and D. I had Windows 7 installed on both at one point. Now, I only have Windows 7 installed on C. However, it still comes up asking which installation it wishes me to boot on startup.
I was getting annoyed by this, so I followed a guide that told me how to stop it, by unticking the "Wait 30 seconds before selecting" option.
Now, however, on booting, Windows automatically selects the WRONG installation, which gives me a 0xc000000f error with device inaccessible. I need to get into my C: version of windows to retick that box until I can figure out how to get rid of the menu the correct way.
Booting from disk to repair doesn't do anything, I've tried repairing both installations but it didn't help.
i am having trouble repairing the error. i have tried all the bootrec commands etc nothing is working do not really want to reinstall as it has important files on it . problem occured after wife installed some software that worked fine on her old xp system
