Backing Up Files In Protected Folder?
May 19, 2012tried backing up my files in protected folder and could not. if not how can I reestablish the on the desktop?

Write Protected Sub-folders Below The Program Files Folder?
Sep 19, 2012I recently reformatted my hard disk and re-installed Windows 7, and when I try to edit any files in the subdirectories off any on the directories in the C:Program Files directory, I get 'protected' errors. I found that I could not create files or edit files anywhere below these directories.It turns out that everything in the Program Files folder and below is write protected. I tried changing one of the subfolder's properties and marked everything as Not Read-only, but I still couldn't create/edit files there.I was running Windows 7 before the hard disk crapped out, and I was able to modify the au3.propertied file with no problem.I know that Microsoft wants to put all data files in the C:User... directories, but the program I'm trying to change is AutoIt (SciTE), and I don't think here's a way to change the location of the properties files.I Googled in the Windows 7 support site and found a link to a video telling how to work around this. You have to change permissions of the parent folder and all files/folders below it.

Jan 2, 2012I have taken many computers back to factory condition and never had any problems. This time, after backing up all my files to disc (15), in total, I have taken this HP laptop back to factory condition. There is no problem there. The restore is fine but I cant seem to load the discs I created. I have turned off the laptop completely, as directed and started it again with the alt f10 keys, which should automatically load my back up but nothing is happening and if I try to open the discs on their own, I get an error message saying that the path isn't there. I have already re-installed my various purchased software but it is the photos and personal files that I particularly want to get back. I have my own photos safely in a box but these photos belonged to someone else

Sep 24, 2012I was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
How To Display Files Inside "Program Files" Folder
Aug 5, 2010I have a program that uses it's own library. The path to this library can't be changed, and it's inside the "Program Files" folder. And the software itself has to be installed inside "Program Files" too, otherwise it won't work correctly (it's a new release and still a bit buggy).Now, when I add something to this library, it's supposed to be present in the library folder. BUT Win 7 doesn't show me any files that have been created by programs inside the "Program Files" folder. The folder where the new library is supposed to be is empty. But the library is there inside the program, so it has to be somewhere.Now, how am I supposed to backup those files if I can't access them?

Apr 21, 2011Ok, this is driving me crazy... I got a new computer with a new hard drive, installed windows 7 and all my apps. I wanted to use my old Hard drive as data/storage drive on my new computer so i just unplugged my drive from old computer and plug it in new computer.Now... the thing is, there are a bunch of thing on the older hard drive that i would like to DELETE. This older hard drive had a windows installation on it and because of that, a lot of folders are "protected" ( folders such has, windows, program files, and everything within them ) ... The only way i am able to delete files is to manually go into the file/folder property, then assign myself as the new owner, then go into permissions and enable all permissions to myself.
This works... but only for individual file or folders that dont have files/folder within them that require permissions... this means that to delete the entire "windows" folder it would take me FOR EVER as there are hundreds of iles/folders...I know that when you change the owner of a folder/file , there is an option called "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" but that doesnt help because although the ownership is changed, i still need to go and manually change the permissions folder by folder, sub-folder by sub-folder , sub-sub-subfolder by sub-sub-subfolder ( and it goes on pretty deep ) of eeeeverything to be able to delete them.
