Feb 2, 2013I've noticed that I have two program files. One just states Program Files and the other Program Files (X86). I believe that the one with (x86) pertains to the Win7 64 Bit however, is the other program file necessary? Since I have Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit don't you think that all files and folders should go to it?

After installing a few programs, I noticed they were all going to X86 folder, so I thought this was an install error on the shipping companies part, and deleted the unnumbered program files folder. Jul 18, 2009I had a virus, which I deleted with Spybot S&D and Eset Nod32 antivirus (it may not have been removed completely). For now the infected PC is not connected to the internet.
I found the virus and started scan by looking into msconfig. I saw two objects:

The program files folder is hidden by the virus, you go to C: and it is not there. What can I do about it?? Its not hidden through the standard windows hidden files (I have showing of hidden files enabled, and I still cannot see it).
I tried combofix but it doesn't work for OS higher then XP, how can I restore my Program Files folder??
The Program Files is still there (programs that are installed there are working, and you can find things there through search in start menu, but you cannot see the folder itself).

Jun 7, 2011I'm new to the forum, just signed up.I have a few questions about installing software on 64-bit.I am running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and noticed some thing.Some of the software are installed in the program file (x86) folder, some of them in the program files folder by default.I made sure that i found and install 64-bit compliant software.
1. Why are 64-bit apps being installed in the (x86) program files folder when they are in fact 32/64-bit versions?
2. When i get prompted to choose the destination folder, can i manually select the program files folder and will it change or compromise windows?
Program Files (x86) Folder Is Corrupt And Unreadable
Dec 22, 2009I have a dual boot machine, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Kubuntu 9.10. Everybody was getting along just fine.
Today I booted from Windows, no problem; booted Kubuntu, no problem; then later rebooted to Windows. I now get a message that my Program Files (x86) folder is corrupt and unreadable. [While in Kubuntu I did nothing other than look at the list of files using Kubuntu. No file was opened or modified.]
- I tried dropping to a command prompt to run chkdsk (as recommended by the error screen) but cmd is corrupted
- So I booted off the Windows 7 disk and was able to run chkdsk - no problems found (with the /f and later the /r switches)
When Windows 7 opens, all my 32-bit programs are unusable, and I can't explore the Program Files (x86) folder. Properties lists it as 0 bytes. However, when I browse the folder from a Kubuntu boot, everything seems normal and is accessible.
I (gently) used some Kubuntu ntfs tools (such as ntfsfix to flag the volume as dirty so Windows would check/repair the volume on boot) but got nowhere. [I have no idea if this is useful, but I included the ntfsinfo output from both my Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders.]

Feb 25, 2012I have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.
Can't Remove System Folder
May 2, 2012my friend tried to transfer some pictures into my laptop by blutooth he is using HTC sensation, but after the whole thing is done, there is a system folder left behind i tried to delete it but when i right click on it, a dialog box appears that the windows explorer stopped working, my computer just became very slow, like its running on 100 programs at a time, it took a very long time just to move the cursor to close the dialog box, yeah i cant delete the system folder i tried to google about this but i didnt found a similar problem with mine, tried to delete the registry method but it didnt work as a new folder appears instead, i dont want to do anything further relating to registry thing as i am afraid that i would corrupt some important files.

Can't Remove 'read-only' Attribute From A Folder
Sep 28, 2010Things I have tried:
1) Enabled hidden administrator logon and logged onto it.
2) Edited user permission for entire drive and set to 'full control'
3) verified the folder is not locked/in-use even deleted it and then restored
Still has the stupid 'read only' box checked when you hit Properties. I am updating Starcraft 2 and get a file creation error during patching. The read only setting is the only thing I can think to change other than full uninstall -> reinstall.
edit: Just tried doing it in elevated command prompt and the R flag for readonly is not present at all even looking all sub-folders with the /S switch. So apparently its not read only but explorer is noting it so in 'properties' ... very strange.
Cannot Remove Corrupt Folder In My Documents
Jan 25, 2010I have windows seven home premium on a lenevo 3000 N100.I was running Super Anti spyware free edition and it said that a folder in my documents which contained 2 MP3 files and 2 image files was corrupt. I know it was not like that to begin with as I downloaded it on Jan 7 and have listened to the songs a few times since then. I can't delete it because it is corrupt. It recommends I run chkdsk. I go to it by going to my computer, drive c, properties, tools, check disk. Then it says it can't run it when windows is in use and asks if I'd like to schedule a scan the next time I turn on my computer. I have restarted and shut down my computer atleast 5 times now and it will not start that scan, it'll just boot up like it normally would.
