Recently i have changed the permissions of a folder (not to make it used by the users of the system),due to some problem with OS i reinstalled the OS,then recognised that i have changed the permissions to the folder and with the admin rights of the new OS i am unable to read the files in the folder.
1. there's a folder in my seagate 1tb goflex external hard disk, which am unable to delete. wen i checked the properties it showed that the space occupied by the folder is 1.5PB!!!! its ridiculous n strange at the same time! if i try to open the folder it says "you need to format disk before you can use it".2. every time i try to copy some files onto/from my hard disk it says "can't read from source file or disk". i have some valuable data worth 700GB on my hard disk and am unable to transfer em onto any other device so i can format my hard disk.
win 7 64 bit I have suddenly not been no able to read vbs files...I have re-registered both windows and java script via an elevated command and both are said to be running - succeeded But when I then run a vbs script which I know to be 'good' ...using open with and choosing Microsoft base script host I get message as per picture.
I need to read several .txt files and search them for a specific string, lets say "key1" and "key2." If the file has key1, then it needs to be moved into directory1. If the file has key2, then it needs to be moved to directory2. There's no telling ahead of time what line the string is going to be on, so I'm guessing I could use "Find" to search for the key? Then how do I loop through all the files, read them, then sort them into the different directories?
I have a folder encrypted with BitLocker. I have reinstalled windows 7 and am trying to read or unencrypt the folder but it is never asking me for the key. It just says access denied. How do I install the key on the system or link the key to a user account?
So I turned my computer off last night, everything was working fine. Then when I woke up today, I turned it on and BAM, could no longer read my SSD (Vertex 2) and would get a message telling me to insert my windows install disk.So I decided to humour it, and tried putting the disk in, checked the recovery options and was unable to find the SSD to perform recovery on. I carried on a few more steps to install a fresh copy and it wasn't listed there either.
I spent about a hour fiddling around with the hardware, swapping around wires and harddrives to check if it was the wires messing me about, turns out everything worked fine.I then reset my BIOS and then checked the boot settings, but my SSD wasn't even displayed on the list.So I was stumped. On the POST screen, when the SSD was not plugged in, nothing would show up in that slot, however when the SSD is plugged in it says 'None'(SSD currently plugged into C1 Master)
I am unable to read CD-R on Word 2010 using Windows 7. When I insert a CD I either get the message Internet Not Responding or the screen fades out and I have to exit because it won't do anything.
I have 3 External Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and my PC is only able to read one out of the three -- I also tested slotting in 3 USB flash drives and all three are able to be read. Strange thing is, I tried the same 3 External HDDs in another PC and all three are able to be read.
If any, here: With unreadable HDD With readable HDD
1) Enabled hidden administrator logon and logged onto it.
2) Edited user permission for entire drive and set to 'full control'
3) verified the folder is not locked/in-use even deleted it and then restored
Still has the stupid 'read only' box checked when you hit Properties. I am updating Starcraft 2 and get a file creation error during patching. The read only setting is the only thing I can think to change other than full uninstall -> reinstall.
edit: Just tried doing it in elevated command prompt and the R flag for readonly is not present at all even looking all sub-folders with the /S switch. So apparently its not read only but explorer is noting it so in 'properties' ... very strange.
my wife just purchased a new computer with windows 7. I know that outlook express is no longer there. She is trying to read old email in folders and cannot without opening the folder and then opening each email. Are there any free programs that will work...or does she have to purchase outlook??
I use Adobe Lightroom 4 to manage my photos. I had to reload my photos the other day. Today I was making changes in the data in my photos, when I finshed and saved the data I recevied a message that the photo was Read Only. Inless I get this resolved I will not be able to edit any of my prints.
By default, the folders in Windows 7 do not have a read-only attribute. Only files have a read-only attribute. Any changes to the folder's read-only box will only affect the files in the folder, then the read-only box will default back to blue when you check it again.
I am using win7 64 bit operating system. Also using microsoft office 2007 (home and school) and have recently run in to this issue. I can go through and edit an ms office file , I can edit it but when I try to save it I'm blocked because 'file is a read only' . If I rename the file I can save but then the renamed saved file becomes read only. Sure enough the word file 's properties show that it is read only. A check of folder options also shows that folders and therefore contents? are also read only.
Unchecking the read only box in properties does not work. You can uncheck the box and apply change but when you reopen folder its back to read only. Don't know if this is an office prob or a win 7 prob. Its really a problem when editing and saving a file with office. Also it is not consistent - sometimes it is all files in a folder that are office files sometimes only a few and , not often, and once the problem disappeared. Its strange.
From what I can see, this seems to be a fairly common problem across computers...My Dell Inspiron n5010 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) sporadically won't read DVDs. A couple of nights ago, it took a couple of tries - last night, I couldn't get it play one at all.Having looked for various fixes, I have tried the following:-Updating drivers-Disabling and re-enabling the drive in device manager-Going into the registry to remove recommended entries (high/low filters i think? I only had the "high" option, which apparently means that fix isn't for me...)-Uninstalling any DVD-burning software that may be interfering with my laptop's own DVD player/software.
I installed TACO (anti-tracking addon) in Firefox. My menus and bookmarks became too small too read. Sometimes they would become normal or too large but moving the mouse/keyboard made it just too WAY too small.I did a bunch of stuff recommended by Mozilla to fix but in the end I uninstalled FF including all personal data and reinstalled. Same problem.
I'm getting a random BSOD on Windows 7, 64bit OS and get this .dmp file to decipher! how to read this file -- www.ncsnet.com/dmp-file-windows7-6 [...] 65-01.dmp?
If you export keys, etc, from the regisrty...is there a way to view or explore those exported or save keys, etc, separate and apart from the main registry filIf I click on saved *.reg (exported keys) I get "do you want to make changes to the registry" pop-up
I have a new Windows 7 machine, and I copied all my data from my XP machine over my network (simple drag-drop in Windows Explorer). Now all of those files open as read-only, even though they have no read-only attribute set on them. This affects all programs and file types. My new machine has only one user account, administrator. What happened?
I have a folder in the computer, in the folder there are many subfoldrers and many files in the subfolders. i wanted to the see details of the content of the folder and suddenly I see all the files in the folder, I don't see the subfolders any more, I see all the files of the subfolders also, its 15000 files that are not organized any more in subfolders, i can't find the way to bring it back to how it was, that i see the subfolders?
